Jean, one of the owners, grew up spending vacations on the lake. A favorite spot of hers, and her father and his brothers before her was a remote sandy beach you could only access by boat. When the property came up for sale many years later, she and her husband Rob bought it. Working with a local conservation group, the character of the land has been preserved. 35 homes are spread out over the 1.5 mile stretch of the lake in a private community. Now the beach is a short walk away - and private to Jean and Rob's property. It's a very quiet spot, and remains, to many, the loveliest spot on the lake.
Great swimming and boating. Small gas grill and picnic table, beach chairs on beach. Kayaks are provided or bring your own boat and beach it on the white sand. There is a boat launch private to the community. Eat-in heated sunporch. Grocery stores, golf, hospital, restaurants 10 minutes away. Fish for bass, landlocked salmon, or white perch. Ice cream stand and restaurant 2 miles away. Championship golf course at world famous Algonquin Resort in St. Andrews, NB, CA, 45 minutes away, is open to the public. 15 minutes to Calais Golf Course. Located in the St. Croix River Valley, there are numerous river and lake trips minutes away. Two border crossings into New Brunswick Canada are 15 minutes away. Campobello Island is a one hour trip. Cutler to buy lobsters off the dock is 45 minutes away.
We stayed at this VRBO property in July 2023. Overall, the house was as described and was clean although I would replace the couches as they are terribly uncomfortable. The master bedroom and bathroom were great and we enjoyed dinners on the screened in porch. There were lots of beach towels stocked at the camp. the kitchen has a variety of pots and pans as well as accessories. The beach was private and just an easy 1-2 minute walk down a well worn path. I would recommend this property for younger children as the water was fairly shallow (3 or 4 feet deep) for a good distance. It is a great lake for paddleboarding as there was little boat traffic and we saw an eagle and heron flying around the area. We tried to use the charcoal grill but didn't find charcoal in the local grocers. I would recommend a new gas grill that is large enough to fit with a 3 bedroom camp as the working gas grill was too tiny to work for us. There is no dedicated firepit but we were able to drag an older firepit we found by the garage down to the beach to use. there are a variety of chairs at the beach so everyone can find a place to sit. We stayed downstairs and the weather was hot/humid but it was cool in the camp with the windows open. Just be careful, that there is one window in the master bedroom that is missing a screen. We did have an issue while we were there but the owners were quick to resolve it. Overall, we enjoyed our time here and the location worked for
Perfect size home for our family and our puppy. Had everything we needed. We loved the beach and pond, lots of fishing and swimming
Nice but needs some required updates.
We loved the lake front especially our dog. Everything was fine and comfortable. The only downside was the Wi-Fi very frustrating at night watching tv. They stated that next year a new system will be available
I never review, but the mrs was adamant about this one. Loved it. Good fishing for small mouth, they are real fighters, super fun to fish for. The sand bottom was great for swimming. You can walk out past your waist (if you are 6’) and still be on sand. We bought new hardware for the row boat so it is good togo. We used a trolling motor with it which worked great. This is the REAL Maine. Not a tourist town. This is the place togo for peace and quiet. Little river lobster (cutler) is the place to get live lobster right off the dock about 45-60 min drive (bring cash). There are pots for cooking them, but we could not find utensils for them i.e. crackers/picks ect. Karen’s had good breakfast (in calais) and nook and cranny was good for dinner. Davis beach is NOT for the public, it is on a navy base, so goto roque bluffs instead if you want to hit the beach (it is small but at least is a beach). Bring your passports if you want to go to Canada they have less restrictions on lobster so you can buy bigger lobster (if you need them that big). The sun porch was great for meals. Bring bug spray if you will be by the water for the evening, they are relentless. If you go out in the water they don’t bother you. Doggo loved everything, especially trying to eat the fish we caught! Thank you Jean and Rob.
Wifi was intermediate at best
We had a wonderful time in Alexander Maine. We enjoyed the private beach with easy access from the home for my son’s wheelchair. Perfect lake for kayaking, fishing amd swimming!
We very much enjoyed our two week stay Lake Meddybemp. The lake is gorgeous (and huge) and the setting is lovely. We swam, paddled, fished and explored the nearby Moosehorn Refuge and towns.. The house is spacious, very comfortable and quite private. On a lake that big, we could have used a boat with a motor. It also seemed that the pandemic and border closure with Canada has hurt the area, but if you want a lovely, quiet vacation, this is a great choce. The hosts were very responsive.
The house and the amenities were perfect for our family visit. The location on the lake was very picturesque and the shallow sandy entry on the lake was great for kids, swimming, and kayaking.
We experienced both heat and cold weather in Alexander. The house is great but does at least need ceiling fans. Was very warm in 90 degree heat with high humidity. That would be our only complaint
