Brookfield, Connecticut
This beautiful 1905 New England Cottage, that was once a local bakery, is the perfect location to enjoy Connecticut, fun local excursions and activities. Hiking trails are around the corner, and a lake surrounded by rolling, golden hills is 3 minutes down the road, perfect for kayaking. So come and relax, reconnect with nature, or do both! A complimentary, chilled bottle of Prosecco will be waiting for you!
This fully remodeled, light filled, 1900 sqft home includes two working fireplaces, a large Great room, spacious living, dining, and sleeping areas, a dedicated office space, a laundry room, a patio, and a back deck. Its lay-out is convenient, with two bedrooms 2 steps up from the main floor. The bedrooms feature fresh, European style bedding. The twin beds downstairs have new green tea-infused mattresses, the sheets are manufactured by women-owned businesses, and the guest toiletries are all natural and infused with essential oils. Every bedroom has beautiful views of the park-like grounds. The fully equipped, large kitchen with spacious dining area makes it fun to cook and gather, and the private back deck and small front patio are perfect for morning breakfast and evening cocktails! There is fast WiFi and a smart TV in the living room, and, just in case you want to disconnect from it all, a great selection of board games and puzzles, books and magazines. There is also a basket with arts and crafts activities for children. Two functioning fireplaces, one in the kitchen and one in the living room, will bring a special ambiance to your evenings. To start you off, we will supply one deck box full of wood. After that, you are free to collect wood from the property yourself.
(There are also baby supplies, such as a crib, a bassinet, a highchair, and a pack & play.)
This New England Cape sits on what was once a sheep farm. The family who owned the land 200 years ago held Dorset sheep, hence the property's name, and as you explore the area, you will see street names that reflect the history of the property. The barn of the main house still has the troughs where they would feed the animals. At one point, the guest house was a local bakery, and an oven in the basement is witness to that venture. The entire property is surrounded by a wooded Land Reserve, ensuring privacy. We have deer, wild turkeys, and hawks that regularly visit our grounds, and from time to time a red fox will cross the property.
The Center of Brookfield and neighboring towns with their restaurants are between a 5- and 15-minute drive away. Kent Falls, the towns of Kent and Litchfield, at the foot of the Berkshire mountains, are a scenic 40-50 minutes away. Other charming towns close to us (within a 15-mile radius) include Newtown, Bridgewater, Roxbury, and New Milford. There are many restaurants, shops, and art galleries around. The Elephant's Trunk, the famous flea market held on Sundays in New Milford from May to October, is a 10-minute drive away.
We live in the main house on the property, and we will leave you as much privacy as you desire. We are always happy to guide you to our favorite local eateries, the hiking trails, access to the lake, and other local activities.
We are multi-lingual, and apart from English, speak Dutch, French, Swedish, and German.

This was an amazing property and great experience. Hosts were fantastic and house was even better than expected! We enjoyed the fire pit and having walking trails so close by, it was the perfect area.
Fabulous! We'll be back!
Everything we could ever want or need for our stay was right there! The house and setting is perfect. Everyone raved at the beauty and comfort of the home. We enjoyed every minute. The owners are generous ,kind and easy to communicate with. Thank you!
Ninka's historic home is charming and extremely accommodating for a family. We enjoyed her comfortable bedrooms and the two and a half baths. Every room is thoughtfully setup for guests with towels, books, lighting for reading, and extra blankets. The kitchen is well-stocked and spacious. There are also many good restaurants in Brookfield so eating out was a breeze. Our family had a lovely experience and Ninka was a wonderful host.
We absolutely loved our stay, Ninka is an amazing host and made sure thoughtful details were in place for us, from making our check in easier when our travel plans hit a delay to ensuring we had everything we needed for our little kids to feel at home. The property is great, well kept and very well stocked with everything you need for a relaxing family break. The listing photos and details are spot on. Thank you Ninka for sharing your home with us.
This property was PERFECT... just as was pictured and described on the website. It was clean and had plenty of supplies (and extras). Ninka's attention to detail was amazing and did not go unnoticed. The welcome book couldn't have been more thourough. We had a great time in the area of Brookfield and I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND to anyone who is looking for a getaway in this area.
We headed back to my hometown just surprise my parents with a visit from their grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Great overall stay, peaceful and quiet and close to boat ramp. It was exactly what we wanted and Ninka the Host was great and easy to get in touch with. Eileen and Allen
Absolutely perfect. The home was very well appointed. The three of us were there for a class in Brookfield. We loved the kitchen and table and enjoyed the comfortable beds after long days. I would give it a 10 if I could. Thank you so much!
What an amazing home! My family and I lucked out in so many ways by renting is quaint home for the holidays. It was perfect right down to the beautiful Christmas tree and wreath on the door. I highly recommend this home and hope to come back again someday. Thank you so much!
Ninka was an excellent host, very communicative with the family. The cottage is so beautiful and has great charm. Family was able to spread out and even spent time outside for a short while during the cold. Highly recommend
We recently moved away from the area and needed a place to stay over Thanksgiving to visit family. The beautiful listing photos hold true to themselves. It's evident Ninka and her family truly enjoy hosting guests. Nearly any amenities you could wish for with any high end hotel are made available. There was a surprise chest full of children's toys which ours were elated to find. Plenty of wood and kindling was made available for the two, large stone fireplaces. Overall our experience was excellent. We'd love to stay again in the future.
Very comfortable house in a lovely setting.
This property is so great. Exactly everything as stated. Host is fabulous, responsive and very pleasant to work with. Highly recommend this property
This home is absolutely beautiful! It was incredibly clean and welcoming. They have literally thought of everything! There is an incredible binder with loads of suggestions on activities, restaurants, places to shop in the area. They even went to the trouble of planning out suggested day trips. There was a basket in the bathroom with different items you might need should you have forgotten anything. Lots of books and board games. The house, the area, and Ninka and Jean-Denis were fantastic. Highly, highly recommend!
