Remotely on a sandy beach with lots of character, at the mouth of a river, and surrounded by a state forest, the slowlife lodge Maison d'Ô Baie de Saint-Jacques offers our guests a wonderful experience, off the beaten track and away from the tourist flocks.

The Petit Futé travel guide made no mistake when it selected us as the recommended accommodation in Sainte-Marie!

Whether you're looking for timeless moments with family or friends, hiking, surfing or nature retreat, the Maison d'Ô Baie de Saint-Jacques is an excellent starting point for exploring another Martinique.

The house is favored by the trade winds, so it's generally cooler and with fewer mosquitoes than elsewhere. Beautiful waves that are always active make it one of the few seaside sites not affected by the smell of sargassum.

In true Creole spirit, the lodge lives in harmony with its surroundings: the sound of the waves, the shade of the trees, the large, ventilated terrace and the swimming pool are unceasing invitations to go outside for a relaxing or convivial moment.

We must confess to a departure from the slowlife concept... We opted for Starlink, the best Internet operator available in Martinique: unlimited broadband - the ball's in your court!

Originally conceived as our dream house, refurbished in 2024, the house has four bedrooms (two large and two standard), and three bathrooms, totalling 10 sleeping arrangements (2 double beds and 6 single beds).

The rooms on the first floor are accessible to disabled guests, including a large bedroom and spacious bathroom with walk-in shower.

As you will be living inside screen sceneries, there is no television. A few books and board games are available.

The beach is wild and never crowded because bathing there is dangerous: a guarantee of peacefulness. For a refreshing moment, enjoy the swimming pool, the river or one of the many beaches around (less than 15 min away).

The pool, facing the sea, includes an area for toddlers. The hammock, in the shade of the catalpa trees, is very pleasant.

We take care to communicate with you every step of the way, from booking to departure, and if you can think of anything missing for a near-perfect stay, please let us know!

-------
Civilization is only 2 km away: a little supermarket, street vendors (fruits & vegetables, fresh fish...), doctor, drugstore, gas station, ATM, post office... There is also a square that is popular among local people, with a playground and street foods (pizzas, ice creams, food from Martinique or Haïti...).
There also are nice restaurants in our little town: Le Point de Vue, La Bananeraie, Le Saint-James et le Ti Punch Coco.
Martinique is a French Caribbean island with much to discover. It's a very charming mix of French and Caribbean cultures in a tropical jewel.
In Sainte-Marie, enjoy the beautiful Habitation La Salle, the Banana Museum, the Maison du Bèlè (bèlè is a tradionnal dance), the Saint-James Distillery and its Plantations Train. Further north, the JM Distillery is well worth a visit.
Part of the 2015 World Surf Championship took place 20 minutes away from the house, see https://www.worldsurfleague.co.... Teachers are available for beginners.
Most hiking tracks are located in the northern part of Martinique, with very diverse landscapes : mountain, rivers, tropical forests, peninsulas. In Sainte-Marie, we love the Tombolo track and the Reculée to Morne Bellevue track.
If you'd like to take a step further, we'll give you the contacts you need to plan a unique stay.

Property as advertised, though descriptions cannot capture how peaceful property is, truly your own little piece of paradise. Nicolas and Alice were extremely helpful and responsive with tips or anything you need. The north end of the island is gorgeous, so different from the south, though Martinique is a real gem.

Turning onto the road is a bit bumpy as well as the rest of the path to get to the property. Upon arrival we came face to face with different animals which was a cute taste. We were right off of a beautiful view overlooking the beach that held a gorgeous backyard including the pool we lounged in whenever we had the chance. When we first opened the front door, we were greeted with a nice open concept home. Originally, the doors in the back wouldn’t close so we had to get maintenance for that but it was a quick fix. They were quick to help and did so with no issues. The only negative we could think of were the many mosquitoes. We would definitely recommend bringing bug spray as the mosquitoes did not come out to play! Other than that, our stay couldn’t have been more perfect. The hosts were so amazing both dealing with us before and after our arrival. They were very accommodating with letting us stay for a few more hours when it was found out our flight was delayed for the entirety of the day. We would definitely stay here again.

We spent a week in early April at this beautiful house. It is spacious and very comfortably sleeps 8 people; we chose this location on purpose to be off the beaten tourist path and have not been disappointed. Everything one could need is nearby, including several beautiful and almost empty beaches (Charpentier and Azerot), the village with a big supermarket and nice bakery shop, great local restaurants for lunch (Point de Vue). The views from the terrace and the pool are wonderful, even better than in the pictures, the vista is too big to be captured in one photo. The house is fully equipped with a functional kitchen and three beautiful bathrooms. Lots of towels are provided. The owners, Alice and Nicolas, are very helpful and welcoming. They provided a very useful guide they composed themselves, with precious tips and a collection of things to do in Martinique, which we used a lot. The highlight of the week has been Laurence Menchon, recommended by the owners, who lives nearby and can prepare food for lunch or dinner which she also delivers right to the house; it is a delicious way to taste local cuisine with a French metropolitan touch that should not be missed (French-Antillean fusion). To sum it up, we loved or stay and hope to come again!

Well first off Nicolalaus made our trip amazing. The house was in perfect shape when we arrived and he was more than willing to help us during our stay to make the entire experience one to remember. He setup some reservations for us since we didn't speak French for restaurants, Ms. Machon (who brought amazing food to the house if you just want to relax instead of cooking over a hot stove at night, French food that is just delicious!), deep sea fishing excursion, music venues, and recommendations on where to see the sites. Plus having an almost private beach right next to the house with a pool... it was perfect. Overall I would recommend also that you have a car to get around the island, definitely a must. If you are looking for a secret hide away beach check out La Diamonte beach on the south side of the island. If you are taking the D7 road look for the La Cherry exit on your way to La Diamonte and there is a secret beach at the end of the road that is just amazing! Thank you Nicolalaus for making this a great experience. I would highly recommend this place, especially for English speakers because Nicolalaus was so accommodating. Also the house would be great for kids!

Nicolas was very flexible with our arrival times. We didn't get in until 10pm, and he was there waiting to explain everything to us. The property is more beautiful than the pictures. You fall asleep to the sound of waves every night and wake up to a beautiful sunrise. This is a very family style home. There is a store very close, and the kitchen is easy to cook in. Nicolas also helped us plan out our week. He gave us directions to Mount Pelee, and he set us up with a secret beach tour. There are some dogs that sometimes come on the property, but they are harmless.

We had such a wonderful time at Ecolodge - from the first evening when we arrived late from the airport and Nicholas was there to greet us and help us get acquainted with the house. The house itself was exactly as planned - and the views and amenities are even better than the photographs - the natural landscape is simply breathtaking, and the way the house is built and situated, it feels like the outside and inside worlds are one. The fresh breezes blowing throughout the house, the wide expanse of sliding glass doors that extend the entire length of the house, all were amazing. Also - the pantry was well stocked for us, and the owners were kind enough to help us with the supplies for a continental breakfast as we arrived after the grocery stores were closed. Nicholas was fantastic throughout our stay, offering suggestions for where to take hikes, sharing with us his favorite beaches in the southern part of the island that we visited - one of the highlights of our stay. Also, Nicholas helped to set up a boat trip with Sebastian - it was certainly the most amazing time we could have had - desite the fact that we speak no French and Sebastian speaks limited English. It was fabulous!!! The entire house was very comfortable and so very spacious - we loved the open, airy quality and the remote location contributed to a nice, quiet relaxing time when we were home enjoying the pool and not exploring this island that has such a wide variety of things to offer. We would highly recommend Ecolodge and Alice and Nicholas were the best hosts we have had without a doubt!!!

We arrived late to the home and Nicolas was waiting so welcoming and enthusiastically. The house was perfect for our group of 10 and it had all the amenities we needed. The location was perfect for every activity we wanted to do from climbing Mt Pelee to canyoning down waterfalls in the rain forest.we had a perfect vacation and hope someday to return!

Alice and Nicolas' house is extraordinary. We were a big group (12 people) and the house never felt too small – it's wide open and full of light and very relaxing. It sits right on a beautiful beach with palm trees (we even managed to find a few coconuts to eat ourselves!). Alice and Nicolas were incredibly generous with recommendations for activities and even booked us a boat tour around the island to a beach that was inaccessible by car. The setting is extraordinary - right on the beach in the north part of the island, far enough away from the tourist hotbeds in the south to feel comfortably removed from the resorts, but close to both the pristine beaches in the south and the incredible hikes and surfing in the North by car. Everything you could need is a 5 minute drive into Sainte Marie – food, bank, restaurants, souvenirs. I would go back to Martinique in a heartbeat, and I would absolutely stay with Alice and Nicolas again. Thank you, Alice and Nicolas, for a truly wonderful vacation.
