La Casita del Bosque (Little House in the Woods), welcomes you into a custom built 3000 sq ft Timberpeg home with 3 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, located on a 25 acre spring fed lake only 8 minutes from Munising and the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore! Three TV’s (streaming channels) and WiFi Internet is included as well as a laundry room with washer and dryer; a starter of paper and soap products are provided as well as bed linens and bath towels;
La Casita was locally designed and built with a timber frame construction by 'Timberpeg'. The wood for this outstanding home was recycled from standing dead Douglas Fir, harvested from the Mt. Hood Region of Oregon. The front and back doors, stair rails, casement and trim were all hand made and resawn from the extra timbers. The table top and kitchen island is custom made from black walnut, and the kitchen cabinets are made from butternut. The unique design of La Casita shows off slate floors that were painstakenly hand cut and strategically placed, Hemlock floors that were harvested locally, a top of the line kitchen, massive fireplace with an 'Old World' baker's oven, and exposed post and beams.
The Master suite has a King size bed with en-suite bathroom with jetted tub and a separate area for the sink and granite topped vanity; The built in hanging and drawer storage as well as the built in ironing center makes this private suite unique and efficient. A private door to the deck and nature will allow secret access to late night star gazing for mom and dad while the children are sound asleep.
The loft has two guest bedrooms and a sitting area. Each bedroom provides a queen size bed, which fit uniquely into custom designed wall pockets; A cushioned chair in each bedroom, built in hanging and drawer storage in one and a dresser in the other; The bedrooms share a large bathroom with a tub/shower. Each room has windows for looking out at the forest. The sitting area serves as a place to relax and read, and additional sleeping space with a comfy sofa sleeper for two!
The main floor provides open space living with the great room and kitchen. Beautiful windows allow the natural light in and because this property is so wooded, La Casita will stay nice and cool during the hot summer months.
Full kitchen amenities include, gas stove top, built in oven and broiler, refrigerator with automatic ice maker, microwave, dishwasher, garbage disposal, bread machine, blender, dinner ware, place mats, silverware, cookware, utensils, bakeware, Cuisinart coffee pot, 4 slice toaster, granite countertops, basic spices, massive fireplace with an 'old world' bakers oven for baking pizzas, breads and much more.
The living area provides guests with a luxurious, overstuffed couch and loveseat with comfy large pillows, end tables with beautiful lamps, and a massive fireplace. The french doors open to a 1500 sq ft deck, so there is plenty of room to use the charcoal grill and relax on the deck furniture;
Downstairs is the large laundry room, entertainment area with a reclining couch, cocktail table for working on board games, 50" TV for streaming your favorite channels and a few movies, a large bathroom with shower.
La Casita del Bosque is a one of a kind beauty and is set in a tranquil environment with the intention of peace and quiet; therefore the lake has a “no motor” restriction. You are welcome to fish the small mouth bass with “catch and release” in mind. Bring your fishing pole and worms and cast from shore as the fish like to feed around the natural shoreline. Or take the new kayaks for a paddle! Good swimming with a sandy bottom and nice clear water! Just follow the sloping rustic path down to the lake. You have the best of both worlds when you stay at La Casita...a luxury home in a rustic setting.
We hope you enjoy your stay, you leave refreshed and you choose La Casita del Bosque for your family vacation for years to come!

Tom and Lisa’s cabin is by far the cleanest cabin I’ve ever stayed in. It was private, extremely quiet, and absolutely beautiful. The lake being within a few feet of the cabin was so convenient.
The living areas are great - well stocked kitchen, plenty of amenities. The upstairs bedrooms are small but the only really annoying thing was no where to hang clothes. Seriously need a rod in the closet space. Beware that there is NO shower in the master bedroom .... just a tub. There is a shower upstairs and in the basement, but that just seems weird. When the host sends you directions to the house, pay attention! It would be difficult to find as she is correct, GPS is basically useless. The road to the house is very narrow but it is exactly where her directions indicated. Before you trek down the steep hill to the lake on the overgrown path, be advised that there is a road about 100 yards past the house .... a much easier walk! Overall, I would stay here again. Plenty of room to spread out.
Gorgeous, clean, house that had everything we needed!! Loved it!
We had a great time at the property. The first thing we all noticed was how clean it was upon arrival. The description was spot on and it was a perfect place for me, my wife, and our closest friends. The location was remote enough to be peaceful, yet close to all that the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore has to offer. Just a few miles to Munising, with easy access to Marquette, Tahquamenon falls, Kitch-iti-kipi, and so much more. After hiking, biking, and kayaking all over the area, we didn’t really spend a lot of time outside at the property. But, the area and lake looked quite nice. It was overall a great stay.
This was a wonderful house for our family of 7. It was peaceful and serene and a quick trip from Munising, which was perfect for quick access to hiking, kayak tours, etc. We enjoyed being able to utilize the kitchen for breakfast and packing lunches. There isn’t a shower in the master suite, only a tub, but with two other showers in the house it was an easy pivot. Plus, after a long day of hiking the bath was a nice way to end the day. We will definitely consider renting here again for our next trip to beautiful Munising.
Beautiful Cottage! Inside was clean and had everything a family needs to make your stay feel like home. Our trip was shortened due to airline problems, so we didn’t get to enjoy the outside. However we would definitely return and stay here again in the future.
This is one of the best properties we have ever stayed in. Beautiful location, secluded, high quality and great communication. ?
We had 4 adults in our group. Very spacious and clean. Close to our favorite restaurants and ATV trails. Had everything we needed. Tucked back off the main road on the lake, very quiet. Loved our stay and will be back.
This was a lovely home on a small lake surrounded by forest. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well-equipped and living areas nicely furnished with plenty of space for our group of 6 to visit and yet not feel crowded with a nice assortment of board games. It is about 15 minutes outside of Munising surrounded by Hiawatha National Forest and was a good base for exploring Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. It had good internet-wifi connection but I had no cell phone signal and only intermittent texting capability. This was not a negative for our group as we wanted to sight-see and interact with each other and email was fine to stay in touch with others. Overall a very nice experience.
This beautiful home has a very complete kitchen and everything you need for a beautiful, restful Northern Michigan vacation. The whole area is beautiful and Munising is delightful with several good restaurants. Lake Superior is stunning. and the Schramms are wonderful to work with. Loved this trip!!!
We had a wonderful time at the property. It was very peaceful and the home was spotless. We grilled out, had camp fires and enjoyed the nice little beach area. It was the perfect home base for our daily excursions around the area. We will most likely stay again and would recommend this place to anyone who likes peace and quiet, a beautiful home, nature and a place to recharge. Top notch.
This is an incredible home, fully equipped, with every amenity a family would wish for in a total UP location. Close to Wetmore, Pictured Rocks, and multiple waterfalls! The Hiawatha State Park boardwalks are also very close and not to be missed. Communication was complete, consistent, and daily during our stay. Our only regret was not trying the pizza oven, but we were thrilled with fire pit s’mores and kayaking on the lake. The wrap around deck was so relaxing and had incredible views of sunsets and stars. Highly recommend! There were 7 adults and 2 children in our party, and we had plenty of room!
We loved the cabin it was absolutely beautiful, very clean and nicely stocked with plenty of utensils and kitchen supplies. The kids loved the ping pong table and especially the kayaks. The private lake is stocked with an abundance of largemouth bass. Out of all of the vacation rentals We have stayed at over the years this was definitely one of our favourites.
We had a blast in the UP! The cabin was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. We enjoyed kayaking and fishing on the lake (very private, seemed like just us and nature). The ping pong table was thoroughly enjoyed, as was the ample space inside and outside the cabin.
This home was perfect for our large family ranging in ages from 24 to 8. The property offers complete privacy and breathtaking views of nature. You feel like you are in a giant tree house. Our entire family enjoyed the kayaks on the private lake, the bonfire pit and the ping pong table in the basement. The house was very clean and well taken care of. Convenient location close to all of the things we were looking to do in the area. Our family all agreed we would like to come back again soon :)
