Our stay was delightful; the property is clean and well located - an easy drive to downtown Grand Rapids and less than 15 minutes from family in Jenison. We especially appreciated the fenced yard for our dogs and the comfortable bedrooms and living space. We will plan to stay again.
We picked this location for our 2 night stay because it was conveniently located to Holland and Grand Haven which we wanted to visit on our way to the Upper Peninsula. The house met our needs. We had to contact the property manager to get information such as WiFi password and check out directions since they were not provided to us on the VRBO app with check in information or in a binder in the house. The house code was pretty generic which didn’t make us feel real safe. The bathrooms had opened soap bars in the showers and used loofahs which we found strange. Overall, we had a good stay.
The beds were very clean, and we enjoyed the air conditioning. However, the silverware in the drawers still had food on them, there was a used bar of soap in the shower, as well as previously used loofas. The basement bedroom has a leak that soaks into the carpet when it rains. Also, we had 5 total guests staying in the home, and there were only 4 bath towels provided. Overall it was not as clean as it was listed to be.
First of all this was the most disappointing VRBO we ever stayed at. Did not feel clean at all. Kitchen floor was sticky when we got there. Toilet seat upstairs was broke, toilet downstairs was not secured tight to floor, bedroom window lock is broke, bedroom door to backyard does not latch. Shower upstairs is hard to regulate temperature. Absolutely NO communication from property manager after emailing several times. Says a full kitchen and only 3 pans a few plates some silverware and cups there, the cupboards are empty. Says laundry but only a washer and drying rack and no laundry soap, barely any hand soap in bathroom. Only 4 towels that were stained no wash cloths. We had to go out and get towels and wash cloths. Only 1 kitchen towel no kitchen dish cloths. One good thing the AC works well, the space was ok but the other problems need to be addressed. The door locks didn’t seem real strong and the code for the door was the weakest combination you could think of which we didn’t feel was safe.
My first negative review and easily the worst rental we've stayed in; defintely disappointing. The pictures are not a good indication of what you'll be renting. Where to start? Cons: The house needs a serious deep cleaning and this does not show in the photos. Walls, woodwork, kitchen cabinets and bedroom closet doors were dirty and, in places, covered with hand and finger marks. Bath towels were washed (I think) but still stained. For the cleaning fee that's charged the house should be thoroughly clean! The back yard is - no kidding - a literal sand pit (I think there's a reason it's pictured with snow covering the ground) with bits of plastic trash and sundry stuff embedded in it. Loose plumbing fixtures. Bare minimum in the way of kitchen plates, glassware, etc. Washer but no dryer, only a small drying rack. Pros: The house is roomy and the bed was comfortable. The seating and patio in back were nice, if you like the fenced desert sort of vibe. Narrow drive to pull into but street parking is also available. Not worth what is presently being charged in rent and fees. Could be much better with some pretty easy improvements.
There were so many issues with the property I don't know where to start. Storm door hydraulic struts were broken, upstairs bathroom window would not close/lock, upstairs shower water would only be either scalding hot or ice cold, downstairs shower head was leaking (we fixed), downstairs toilet was not tight to floor, kitchen floor was disgustingly dirty (made our socks black). The internet did not work and working with the property manager/support was untimely and not helpful. The front porch is severely out of level, and the sidewalk up to the front porch is a trip hazard (uneven).
We loved the house and it got all of our needs. The neighbor was horrendous, but the owner can't control that.
