Orford, New Hampshire
Lovely converted barn with larger eat in kitchen, spectacular water views. Large living room with professional dart board. Large bedroom with comfy bed. Access to private waterfront docks for boating; swimming, or ice skating to the winter. Two Kayaks and a Canoe on property..
The apt is artfully designed, clean and the front windows have a beautiful view of the lake. Hosts are accommodating and available when needed as they live next door ( the apt is over a garage). Bring slippers, as the floor can be cool due to being over an unheated garage.
We had a great time hiking the AT. The property is located about 1 mile from the trailhead. Sitting on the dock enjoying the fall colors and the bald eagle was great. Paul was a great hosst.
Paul is a lovely host.
I didn’t want to leave this place. From the loons, hiking, kayaking and swimming it was the best time. My dogs enjoyed it also with so much to do. The description is very accurate and great for the most peaceful stay. If you want to unplug from the world this is the place. Highly recommend!!
This was a perfect property for a couple's getaway weekend. Location on the lake is idyllic - both the view from the kitchen/dining windows as well as relaxing on the dock. The space itself is cozy and comfortable for two. Hosts are very welcoming and offered some great suggestions for hiking in the area. Would recommend if you're looking to disconnect and relax.
I realize now that I should ask more specific questions but in the past I've had no trouble with descriptions. What they described was exactly what I found. Some information that is important to know about this place that if I knew I would not have booked. 1. They live on the premises. The converted barn is actually they're garage/barn and they put in a loft and you are sharing their driveway as they live right next door. 2. Even though they say upto 2 dogs allowed there really isn't any outside place for the dogs to explore or hang out as there isn't a yard and the barn is right up against the side of the woods which is a hill. 3. Although I used waterfront as a filter they really aren't waterfront in my opinion. You need to cross the dirt road (no biggie) but then go down a rocky steep embankment - anyone with leg issues would have to be careful (I've had hip replacements). 4. there really isn't any land to hang out by the water. You have only the floating dock - the picture of the dock is from standing on the other end but no picture of the land area. The hosts were kind and wanted to know what they could do to make it better but because it wasn't what I had expected or had been looking forward to there really wasn't anything they could do. They offered to move the kayaks to make more room but that still wouldn't have been enough. I was expecting more but now I know to ask more questions and ask for more pictures. It was a cute little place, just wasn't what I was imagining.
Very nice stay and Paul was a very accommodating host! A good spot to do day trips through New Hampshire and Vermont. Only over an hour to the cog train up Mt Washington!
