The Beaufort area is just the perfect low country get away and Harbor Island is about as relaxing as you can get. Plenty or amenities at the home and the screened in porch and view of the sunrise is worth the stay by itself. Yes, bring bug spray, you never know which way the wind will be blowing. A golf cart would be nice but with parking it would be difficult to make it work. All in all a great experience.
We had a nice week staying here. The room set up was awesome for our group. The beach is a long boardwalk (bring a wagon) away but you come out to a nicely secluded part of the beach. The bugs are heavy on this side of the island due to the brush- so bring bug spray. The house however needs some TLC. There were parts that were filthy, parts where drywall was missing or paint missing from walls, nails popping up on the porch- nothing a day or two of maintenance work couldn't fix. The twin mattresses need replacing due to their condition. The kitchen is huge and had most items needed to make a meal and there is a grill under the house which was awesome. The AC does struggle to keep up and the steps up to the house have plants that have almost taken over the steps. We enjoyed our stay and it worked well for our group but I'm not sure if we'll stay here again due to the condition of everything. I know this property could be top notch with a little bit of extra love. Thank you for hosting us.
It was perfect for our family from age 2 to grandparents!
This was our 2nd stay in this house. The home offered plenty of space for our family and location to the beach was great. However the house is in need of a cosmetic makeover. The bathrooms were in the same condition as the year before when we stayed there. Very much in need of painting (all 3 of them). The house was full of gnats, in every room and another type of small black flying bug! Very much in need of an exterminator. Having the pool close by was a great asset to our stay. Most likely we will be looking for better accommodations for beach trip 2023.
Had a wonderful time getting together with family at Harbor Island. Beautiful and peaceful place, great for grandparents and grandchildren alike
Great condo layout, well supplied kitchen, plenty of room, all clean and in good condition. The beach is wonderful for walking and plenty of activities in the area. The bed in the master bedroom was fine but our kids and grandkids complained about the size and comfort of the other beds.
Great location, property manager was responsive to maintenance issues.
Previously, we used to take a family vacation to Florida every year. But our favorite beach built up and became more popular, losing the quiet escape we desperately needed. 2020 of course didn’t happen, and we wanted to be cautious in our selection in 2021 to limit the likelihood that a quiet vacation would get derailed by the pandemic. We started looking for out of the way places and happily found this rental. This is a spacious 4 bedroom vacation haven right on the marsh. I spent hours in the screen porch listening to the frogs, crickets, and birds. There is no thru traffic, and we couldn’t hear our neighbors on the other side of the duplex unless they were outside. There’s a 300 yd boardwalk that takes you through the marsh right down to the sound, a shallow beach with powder-sugar fine sand. Even at its heaviest attendance day, the beach had plenty of space because the access is for residents of Harbor Island and their guests only. There is no public access. Because you’re in the sound, the water is shallower so you’re not going to get the big waves that knock you over when trying to get into the water. You have to go a considerable distance before it’s deep enough. PROS: Fully stocked kitchen, comfortable spacious 4BR 3 bath house with screened porch on back facing the sound. There’s a concierge service through the property management that is very responsive to questions and requests, and just renting comes with daily freebies like a kayak rental. Quiet remote area. Clubhouse with large pool, tennis courts, fitness area. Plenty of wildlife and plants to see, so bring your binoculars. Beaufort is rich in information for your family history buffs, and plenty of shops and restaurants. Cons: Older property that while is decently maintained is showing its age. There are a few things broken in the house such as a drawer in the fridge and blinds in the master bedroom. The AC unit inside is loud (but works perfectly). The screen in the porch gaps in a few places, making it possible for the mosquitos and no-see-ums to get in (bring your insect repellent. You WILL need it going through the marsh!). The boardwalk is about 300 yds, making it a trek for the very young or old/anyone with mobility issues, and the boards themselves are rickety in a few places. You’re also 20 minutes from the nearest grocery store, so plan your meals ahead because there’re no quick jaunts for forgotten items. Regardless: I loved it and would rent again.
This home had a beautiful view. We especially enjoyed sitting on the screened in porch so we didn’t have to worry about getting bug bites. The home also had updated appliances that were nice to use.
At the time of our stay, very few people were in the other duplexes in the secluded area. We realized after arriving the house is actually on St. Helena Sound and its beach is about 300 yards from the house, accessed by a boardwalk through the marsh. This made for lovely, nature-filled views from the back porch, but in order to satisfy the ocean experience (the waters of the Sound also had lots of jellyfish), we drove to the nice state park nearby and spent time on the ocean waters there. That required a good bit more effort with children, etc., but was a lot of fun. The unit itself is comfortable, relaxed, wonderful to have so many towels and ample kitchen equipment available. There were a couple of things not working, but nothing major. The kids also enjoyed the pool area and the nature show provided by the resort. We felt very safe and welcomed by the friendly folks at the check-in station.
