Serendip Shores - Meredith Lodging

This unique, beachfront, custom home will embrace you with ocean light from its many floor-to-ceiling windows, including a gorgeous sunken living room with bumped-out garden windows along two sides for maximum sunlight. Surrounded by a private sea of beachgrass, Serendip Shores has beach access from the backyard leading to miles of sand in your toes. A wall of rock with hearths on either side divides the living room from a bonus living/dining room with its own woodstove, TV, and dining table, plus walls of windows to the waving grass and a slice of ocean on the horizon. A fully equipped galley kitchen with an ample breakfast bar makes it easy to eat in; a wind-screened deck with a dining table, barbecue, and plenty of seating extends your options outdoors and lets you enjoy the coastal air. A hot tub promises bubbling soaks under the night sky.

One queen bedroom suite has its own sofa; two more queen bedrooms include large windows for gazing out at the sky, and the kids will delight in the double bunk room. Another draw for the young at heart, a lower-level game room, includes a ping-pong table and foosball. When you’re ready for adventuring, you’ll find yourself just 20 minutes from plenty of dining and activity in Seaside, and just 20 minutes north to Astoria’s delightful downtown, with shops, art galleries, and plenty of dining pleasure. Book a stay in this wonderful home, where you’ll enjoy privacy, nature, and views galore.

Property is shabby chic/dated. Neighbor and community is highly unwelcoming to guests. Signs up all over neighborhood communicating renters are not welcome. Lots of do not trespass signs everywhere. I have never felt more unwelcome at a property we have rented and we have traveled the country renting over 40 properties. Property in desperate need of a deep clean.Hot tub did not work during our 2 night stay. Reached out to manager right away, and although they indicated they would get it working, they did not. Management company sent some suggestions for me to troubleshoot the problem. Highly dissatisfied as this amenity is why we booked the property as our visit was mid October.Important to note there are hot tub hours as well. 9 AM- 10 PM.Wash machine leaves clothes sopping wet and dryer takes hours to get clothes dry. They need to be replaced. No iron on site either. Overall- I would look else where to stay. Beach is gorgeous.Bottom line- We felt like we were getting punked during our stay. Would recommend looking to stay somewhere else. So many good options in the area, and this one just doesn’t cut it for the price point.

Pros: Loved the location. It was between Astoria and Seaside and easy to find. The trail to the beach with sparkling sea grass on either side was fun to walk and the beach was wonderful. There was plenty of room for everyone to sleep and spend time. It was very well equipped, especially the kitchen and had a great refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, and drip coffee equipment.Cons: The home is very tired. Grout is missing in the many tiles that are in the home. The windows were not clean. We had to go outside to pull the screen open at the deck door. The floor was sandy and my friend's white socks were very dirty at the end of the day. The gas stove top was ancient and actually scary to use. There weren't enough railings in the home. My friend, who has to use a cane, can go up and down stairs but she wasn't able to use the very nice living room because the stairs were uneven and there was no railing. The entrance stairs did not have a railing for all the stairs and the railing that was there was so rough we were afraid of splinters. There weren't enough blankets. The downstairs bedrooms were cold enough to warrant more than a lightweight cover and the other beds had to be stripped to use the covers. There should be grab bars installed in the showers. We had a lot of trouble with the gate code. The numbers were correct, but I had to stop the car and figure out how to use the #keys in the correct order to open the gate.
