“Les Terrasses d´Azay”, 3 * gite, with pool for 12

We are four retired men who rented this property as a base for a cycling holiday. Whilst the lounge and kitchen are fine the bedrooms, showers and bathrooms in particular are poor and cramped, one shower has glass shelf that has to be avoided, the bath is difficult to access even for fit people. The single bed mattresses offer little comfort and the overall layout is difficult with a mixture of upstairs, downstairs and external bedrooms. A small building next to the pool houses a sofa bed ( one of the listed doubles) and a shower/toilet. It is unlikely that the shower curtain has been cleaned or replaced for some time as the bottom 150 mm was black with mould. Hanging space in the bedrooms was limited and in some cases blocked by extra 'put you up' beds. The wooden terrace is also dangerous with lifted boards which are a trip hazard. Although the description listed both towels and bed linen provided, these are at additional cost, listed in the small print in French. The cleaning fee which is usual in France is also excessive and they obviously missed the shower curtain! Although the owners where advised that we were four men and requested 4 sets of bed linen, only two were initially provided and despite the charges one has to make ones own bed. The 'no refund' and deposit clauses also should be considered. It is unfortunate that this interesting and scenic area of France was spoilt by choice of accommodation.

Myself and my 3 sons and their wives /partners stayed for a week at this house. The lady who did the key hand over was helpful and very welcoming. The bottle of sparkling wine was a lovely addition .. thank you. The house itself was clean and spacious though the lay out is a little rambling this added to the charm. I liked the fact that there were games and books available to borrow. Table tennis was a real hit with my Son's. Would be positive if there was some information in the pack in English for those who are not able to read French. (Not a problem for us as we have French friends in the area). Bedrooms were fine though the raised bed was incredibly hot. My son and his wife chose that but very quickly moved to the pool house !! The pool was extremely cold (visited 9 th June). The weather was warm but not sunny as a result we only used it twice. The other issue was that the cover for the pool was unusable as it was tied up in numerous places and everyday the pool was very dirty with leaves and debris. If you could have put the cover on it would have kept it cleaner. The locality of the property is brilliant. Within walking distance of Azay Le Rideau and many of the Loire Chateau. All together an excellent home. My only criticism is with the marketing of this property. On booking I was not made aware of additional costs for bedding, towels and cleaning. This amounted to an additional 322 euros which came as quite a shock a week before we arrived. I don't feel this is the fault of the owners but Home Away should be more honest about the total cost.
