Murphy, North Carolina
Lazy Timbers is private, peaceful and secluded. We are located in the North Carolina Appalachian Mountains situated just south of the Tennessee border (9 miles) off of state road 294. It’s just beautiful here. This time of year, the leaves are changing so sitting out front next to the fire pit enjoying the cool breeze through the timbers is what it’s all about. I come here to relax, unwind and to get away from all my work stresses while still enjoying the modern amenities of home. Our home was recently fitted with a new heating and air conditioning system that was installed in 2017. We also installed a state of art water filtration system and tankless hot water system. Lazy Timbers has two full bedrooms. The master bedroom has a brand-new king mattress with cozy and comfortable linens. The guest bedroom comes with a pillow top queen mattress with the same comfortable linens. The downstairs living room is fitted with 2 new twin beds and a natural gas fire place. The downstairs area is setup as a game room with a Foosball table, dart board and board games. Our kids love to hang out in the upstairs loft that has an additional twin bed. It’s such a cool place to sit back on the bean bag chair and stare at the stars through the moon roof. Lazy Timbers has two full bathrooms. The living area has a wide-open floor plan and is spacious but inviting for the entire family that includes a queen size pullout bed. The sunroom room offers a beautiful full view of the surrounding foliage with the comforts of two large couches to curl up and watch a movie on the big LCD TV. The kitchen has been modernized with all the necessary cooking utensils, pots and pans you would expect in your own kitchen and even a Kuerig 2.0 coffee maker (bring your K-cups).
Lazy Timbers lets you disconnect without being disconnected. We offer free wireless high-speed internet and Satellite TV with a full complement of channels for everyone. Lazy Timbers is a 2.5-hour ride from Atlanta or a 1.5-hour ride from the Knoxville, TN. Our property is physically located on the backside of the mountain where the large ten commandments of Fields of the Wood is located. I can literally walk out the front door, up the hill and find myself looking down on the 10 commandments. What a view, very hard to describe you just have to experience it! The Murphy area provides a wealth of things to do. The recently constructed Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Casino is located only 30 minutes away along a beautiful country road. White water rafting is about an hour in each direction with the Ocoee river (12yo and Older) for the more experienced rafters or the Nantahala River (7yo and Older) for the family. Lake Hiawassee is just minutes away and provides a wealth of outdoor activities like swimming, fishing, boating, tubing and pontoon boat rentals for the entire family to enjoy. My family and I enjoy geocaching and have found lots of beautiful tucked away waterfalls in the area and beautiful mountainous trails searching for treasures. Historic downtown Murphy is about a 20-minute drive away. The town of Murphy offers modern restaurants, antique shops, an ice cream store and even a Walmart a little further down the road. The drive to the property is gorgeous. You will drive a paved winding road from Highway 64/74 up the mountain through some of the most beautiful views. The community boasts a small pond at the base of the driveway where there are bass and catfish ready to be caught (please catch and release for future guests). The private driveway has ample space to park your RV or several large vehicles. If you are quiet enough in the mornings the driveway seems to be a nice spot for the local deer to graze (no hunting please).
We enjoy outdoor grilling. We have a grill located on the outside porch area (BYOC - bring your own charcoal). With a couple of Adirondack chairs on the porch, my wife and I like to drink a glass of wine together as we watch the fire pit below and enjoy our peaceful surroundings.
We came to view the fall leaf color and you delivered. It was beautiful. We traveled closeby, across the dam and the nearby back roads enjoying the awesome colors. Your cabin was very welcoming. We cozied up by the gas fireplace while drinking our hot chocolate. There was plenty of room for the 2 of us, but would have handled several more. Thanks for providing a great place to stay
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lazy timbers. Home has everything you need. King master bed very comfortable. We enjoyed fires a couple of nights in the fire pit, while one evening played cards, games inside. Nice gas fireplace in downstairs family room. Lots of games, activities and movies (never got to watch any). A lot of nearby activities. Short hike to the Fields of the woods and a couple other hikes. Also went to local falls (Fires Creek, Turtletown Creek Falls), tops of 2 mountains (Brasstown Bald, Ga & Clingmans Dome, NC) and 2 wineries, best was Nottely River Valley Vineyards.
We had a wonderful relaxing visit. The cabin was extremely well equipped, clean and cozy. My teens loved the basement game room area. Downtown Murphy was so charming, we can’t wait to come visit again.
We had an awesome time. The cabin was fully stocked with cookware and games for kids. Had a good selection of movies. Firepit outside to do s'mores great location.
I enjoy the property and the neighborhood my husband and I buy one land and log cabin in this moment started the process for the construction I love Murphy an everythin
The property is very beautiful and the house is well kept. However it is listed as pet friendly, secluded, and includes fireplace all of which are incorrect. The neighbor has a 200lbs pit bull that doesn't leave the property and will be around the house leashless all day and night. The owner of the property wants you to deal with the neighbor if you don't like the dog. The property would be secluded except for the 5 security cameras that point to all parts of the property, so there is actually no privacy on this property and the cameras not listed are a VRBO violation. There is a fireplace in the house but is shut off most of the year. The host is only friendly if you don't have a problem as he was initially great then when given a problem snapped at us as if it was our fault his neighbors dog wouldn't leave us alone. The trash situation still has not been addressed. The owner would rather hide trash fees then include them in the listing which is against VRBO policy. If you are ok with the above transgressions then this is a great property, but the owner should update his listing to reflect all of the things listed above. This is our 6th time using VRBO and the only time we have had any issues with any property.
We had a wonderful stay in spite of the rainy weather. Lazy Timbers is full of seating areas for every whim, mood and forecast. WiFi reaches every corner of the house for all our work to music needs. The kitchen is well stocked. The entire house is amazingly spotless!! We can't thank Brian and Sarena for surprising us with firewood quenching our hankering for roasted marshmallows and s'mores! The outdoor lighting on a timer is so charming and invites hours of storytelling and laughter for catching up! Sometimes it's truly the simple things that are most meaningful. Thank you.
Easy and Brian was helpful.
Beautiful property. Everything is well appointed, comfortable beds and plenty of space. House is in a neighborhood, but it is still remote, with no neighbors. We had privacy for us and room for the dogs. Close to lots of great trails and waterfalls! Recommend a drive down Hiwassee Dam Access road to Prospect Rd and check out Shoal Creek Falls. Overall, this is a great location and a great house, especially for the price. We will definitely be back!
Lazy Timbers is a perfect name for this place. You come to lay back in the woods, relax and unwind. Daniel Boone would be proud to stay here if he was looking for a modern cabin. There is nothing primitive about this place, it is just totally secluded in the woods. If you are looking for seclusion without being totally isolated from the world, this is a great place. It is mountainous, without being too steep, and the woods have only been taken out to make a decent area for the yard, house, and driveway. The kitchen is will stocked with all the appliances they we needed to make side dishes for a home cooked meal. The fire pit allowed us to grill (with our tripod grill) all our meats. The sunroom with all the windows sets off the house and makes you feel like you are outdoors when you are inside. It's like sitting in a treehouse, when you look out the windows all you see is the tops of the trees. We saw lots of squirrels and birds, and my dog even got to chase some lizards (her favorite past-time). Rainy days can be spent in the sunroom or you can go downstairs and sit under the sunroom floor area outside. Clear days on the outside deck or around the fire pit are lovely also. The fire pit, and area around it, surpassed our expectations and is by far the best we have found so far. The access to the property is very easy to negotiate. No 4WD needed. It is close enough to town for quick trips, but far enough away to feel secluded from city life. The street light outside was exceptional for letting our dog out at night for potty runs. She seemed relaxed, safe, and contented here. A writer would be inspired by this place, in our opinion. Brian was great host and responded quickly to all our questions. He was very accommodating and worked quickly to resolve any questions we had and was open to input/suggestions from us. There's not much I would change about this place. Maybe a handrail along the bottom half of the steps to the fire pit to assist with balance going up and down. Other than that, it suited us to a tee. We live in the country and felt totally at home here. The selection of beds in the house makes it easy to find one that best suits your sleeping needs. We can't wait to come back and do it again. Thank you so much Brian and Serena for sharing your lovely place in the mountains!
