Stayed Aug 1, 2025Had a wonderful 1 week stay - this Vrbo had all the amenities we could ask for, and then some. Host was very welcoming and responsive to messages, and checked in with us in person on the first day to make sure we had everything we needed. Kitchen and bathrooms have all been renovated, along with a downstairs suite we didn’t need to use. Kitchen fully equipped and well stocked. Fresh herb garden on site as well! Beautiful lake views and easy water access - and close to Portland. We didn’t have kids or grandkids with us on this trip but they would have loved it. Our dogs certainly did .

Stayed Aug 5, 2017My family visited Maine the first week of August 2017 . There were 9 of us and three generations. From the first time I contacted the owner Don he was very accommodating making sure that all of our needs were met from the space in his home to suggesting different activities for all of us to enjoy. Upon arrival he greeted us with a tour of his home as well as wine and cheese. Throughout the week he would check in and make sure that we were content. Even afterward he made sure that all business was wrapped up professionally. The house was perfect in comfort. My teenagers stayed on the ground level and had all the comforts of home: tv, bathroom, refrigerator and sleeping spaces. The other three bedrooms were great and if you are so lucky to have the bedroom facing the lake you will open your eyes all times of the night and early morning to get a view of the lake. One of the bedrooms slept a family of four comfortably. The kitchen is ready for cooking for your entire stay. We even used the grill and fire pit for dinner and dessert. Internet connection was not an issue. The best feature of the house is the lake itself. It was so pleasant sitting on the boat house deck enjoying coffee or a glass of wine. We kayaked and used wave runners and the kids swam. Perfect. The location of the house is one of the reasons why we chose to stay at Don's house. It is a quick drive into Portland for a city vibe with great restaurants. Also the southern Maine beach towns are all within a 20-45 minute drive. Boston for a day is possible since you can be there in under two hours. Mt. Washington in New Hampshire is also a day trip. We had the pleasure of also visiting local breweries as well as the headquarters of LL Bean. So much fun! If you are looking for a week on the lake with opportunity to visit the state of Maine, Don's house will be the star of the vacation!

Stayed Dec 31, 1969My family and friends and I had a wonderful stay in Don's home. 1) The house - the house is a perfect lakehouse. Two hours from Boston, close to Portland (though we never left the house and lake!). Beautifully decorated, great kitchen, amazing views, hammock, dock, everything you need to relax on the lake. Being so close to the lake was perfect for our large group with lots of kids (even if a 5 minute walk to the water sounds short, moving anywhere with a bunch of little ones becomes such an inconvenience). At the same time, between the house, the backyard, the porch, and the dock, there were enough spaces for our group to spread out and still get some peace and quiet. The basement bedroom functioned more like a suite which worked well for our group so some could get a bit more privacy. We were the first to rent his home after recent renovations and I know Don is planning a few more upgrades, so any minor issues we encountered will be irrelevant. We thought this house and experience was a great value for the price. 2) Lake/Neighborhood: The house is located on the southern tip of Highland Lake and we found the water to be incredibly calm (like glass most days), clear, and warm enough for perfect swimming and kayaking daily, and made kids kayaking safe and fun. The house was on a private wooded drive, beautifully shaded, and with lovely friendly neighbors. 3) Owner - From the moment we booked our trip, Don has been incredibly easy to work with, flexible, and clearly focused on doing whatever he could to ensure we had a wonderful vacation. When he found out we had a 2 year old, he purchased a toddler life vest for her, and arranged extra kayaks with his neighbors. He also made sure to fully child-proof access to the lake to help keep our group having a great time, and not being stressed about safety at all. In summary - we had a perfect new England lakehouse experience, great value and look forward to coming back next summer with our family again!
