This review is being written in hopes that no other family will experience having a planned vacation where they must make changes for comfort or being abruptly interrupted for mundane issues . Our family planned a peaceful get away to celebrate our mother’s anniversary of being a two time cancer survivor. Her request was to have all of her children and their children together under one roof to take pictures on the lake and enjoy a meal together giving thanks for making it another year. We found what we thought was the perfect home on Expedia booked and set out for everyone to eventually meet us and prepare a meal and take pictures. We arrived my self and my husband and children late that night although our check in was 4pm we came around 11pm the home was dark so we fumbled around to find light switches . We used our phone lights and realized the light switches were on the strings of the ceiling fans . When I saw the condition of the home (it was filthy ) I was livid however it was late and my small children had to sleep as we had driven quiet some time and had a full day ahead .So I set out to make things as neat and tidy to get them asleep in one area which was the master bedroom . I wanted my family to arrive the next day and have a nice lovely time with no issues as I was the host so I began cleaning and sanitizing . Attached I will show pictures and also outline what the home looked like when we arrived and also shed light on how inconsiderate the owners were showing
We had a wonderful experience at this property.
The property was centrally located around Lake Barkley. House is older but has a history and charm. Very close to Hu-B's at Kuttawa for our boat rental. Fire pit was used almost daily as was the outside porch facing the lake. The kitchen was used daily. Only real conflict involved the cable TV repair. Overall experience was great.
Check in process was really easy. Location of the property was great and fairly close to all the things we had planned for the weekend. Absolutely loved the front porch that overlooks the lake.
The house is extremely interesting, and we especially loved looking at the architecture. Make sure you see the picture hanging in the dining room of the original house before the additions were added. The wrap around porch is amazing! Plenty of seating for everyone. The only drawback is the second downstairs bedroom with the bunkbeds. It is very small, and it is like a furnace in the room even with the window air conditioning unit by the back door. We had to use the room because we had 9 people, and the kids who stayed in that room were miserable. I’m sure it’s fine when it’s not the middle of the summer, but just know that it’s is almost unusable if it’s hot out. Aside from that one issue, we enjoyed our stay. .
Great family time. Plenty of room for 9 of us. Very homey and cozy. Everything you could possibly need in kitchen. Owner responded quickly with any questions. Beautiful view, fire pit awesome, kids swam and fished in the lake. Plenty of yard for badminton and croquet or any yard games.
We went on a family vacation. As we always do my husband our kids and their partners and our grand babies. The place was great for what we needed very nice place. But not fancy as so you would be nervous about every little move made would love to stay here again.
Absolutely fantastic... Beautiful lake front property on Lake Barkley in Eddyville with lovely views. The home has Historical significance with many period architecture features to enjoy and best yet thoroughly updated throughout. The interior was thoughtfully appointed and well decorated. Furniture and Beds were super comfy. The kitchen was well equipped and organized. A/C worked amazing. The large comfy wrap around porch has beautiful views, exterior sound system, and overlooks an impressive pristine yard (perfect for corn hole, tossing the football, or roasting marsh mellows by the fire pit). We fished off the shore and caught a dozen+, before releasing them back. The pics on the web are accurate, a good representation, and can be relied on. The house easily accommodated (6) Adults (2 Parents & 4 twenty five year olds). Everybody was comfortable and loved every minute. Kuttawa Marina was nearby and had great new Tri-toons for rent. Check out the live music at Hu-B's. Also, Nashville Broadway day-trip is only 1 1/2 hrs away. Beth & Jaime were the perfect host, providing great directions, information, and always responsive communication. All in all, I can't say enough about the lovely lake home, great value, and wonderful hosts. We will definitely be back! Mark
We enjoyed our thanksgiving get away with family , The view of the lake was amazing, House is equipped with everything you will need from cooking inside or grilling . We loved that the lake was only steps away , kids really enjoyed fishing . We made some great memories would definitely recommend this house .
The View from the awesome lake side porch can't be beat. We even watched bald eagles soar looking for food on several occasions. The house was clean and the house had a lot of character that you can expect from a pre-civil war home. The minor inconveniences were worth staying in such a house. As constructive criticism: the vrbo app was confusing as far as receiving the code for checkin and checkout; the porch has a lot of cobwebs; The description of the house could use a few more details as to the bedroom and bathroom locations. Other than that it is a great place to stay with a lot of extras to support almost any activity of choice.
My family and I visited for Fall break and had a wonderful time, enjoyed the property very much.
