Stonington, Connecticut
Treat yourself to a genuinely unique experience in this luxurious six bedroom, six and a half bath rebuilt 19th century stone mansion overlooking Long Island Sound. Originally built in 1825 by Mystic banker Elias Brown the Stone House stood majestically atop Quoketaug Hill. Everything but the stonework burned to the ground in 1924. The family was finally able to realize their dream to rebuild it in 2016.
The formal living room with its marble-faced gas log fireplace offers a beautiful sitting area for quiet conversation, reading or watching television.
The dining room provides elegant seating for sixteen people. It too has a marble-faced gas-log fireplace. It is decorated with a beautiful collection of Japanese plates from the family’s years of living in Japan.
The gourmet kitchen features a 48” 6-burner gas stove with griddle and two ovens. The 3-seat granite topped peninsula area provides a work area with views of the verandah and Long Island Sound beyond. The kitchen is completely stocked with every cooking device required to create a gourmet meal. No need to tote things from home. A small breakfast nook makes a great place for early-risers to share a cup of coffee and watch the news. A Dutch door leads out to the verandah.
The 20’ by 24’ verandah offers alfresco dining in the warm weather. A gas grill is conveniently located just off the steps. Guests have easy access to the Garden Lot and wonderful views of Fisher’s Island.
Taking the stairs to the second floor you will find three bedroom suites. The Stanton Suite has a queen-sized bed and offers views to the south and east. The bath features a beautiful freestanding tub and a tile shower.
The Williams Suite is the largest bedroom and has a queen-sized bed. The windows face the hayfield to the east and offer views of Watch Hill in the distance.
The Denison Suite has a queen-size bed. Both the Williams and Denison suites have baths with custom tile showers.
All three 2nd floor bedrooms have remote operated gas-log fireplaces.

The house is situated on almost 6 acres of open fields. The driveway has ample parking for nine cars .We are less than 2 miles from Interstate 95 and less than 20 minutes from the casinos, wineries and Rhode Island beaches.
WE’RE VERY SORRY, BUT THE STONE HOUSE IS LOCATED IN A QUIET RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD, SO OUT OF RESPECT FOR OUR NEIGHBORS WE DO NOT ALLOW EVENTS OF MORE THAN THE FOURTEEN GUESTS (MAX) LODGING AT THE HOUSE.
Wonderful property. Each room had its own bathroom. So much history and it felt like being in museum with stories about the original family. Kitchen was very well equipped. The dining room was spacious and could accommodate our whole group of 14 for all the meals. We loved it and would definitely come back.
We had a great stay at the Stone Mansion for our annual family reunion. Really a special house and place on the hill just outside old mystic. With 6 bedrooms, with a full bath for each, two living areas, and two amazing patio’s the space is wonderful for a family reunion like ours. The views from the upper level are amazing too. Cell service is non-existent, so you will need to turn on your wi-fi calling. And the kitchen is a little tight for such a big space, but other than that it is all AMAZING.
We stayed at the home for my 50th birthday weekend. There were 12 adults and all couples had beautiful bedrooms with their own bathrooms. The veranda spaces provide breathtaking views and comfortable places to hang out. The host, Elaine, helped us secure a private chef for a birthday dinner. It was so helpful to have a chef that knew the space and they provided an excellent experience and meal. Our favorite was ending each evening on the 3rd floor great room for night caps and games. This is a special property and the touches and details added to the excellent experience. I could not recommend this lovely home more. Thank you Elaine and Heidi fir a 50th I will cherish.
Grand and sophisticated without being pretentious. The Stone House was a perfect location for our multi-generational family gathering. It can handle a crowd and provided everyone with generous private space. Comfortable dining for 14, two large covered porches (we loved these in all sorts of weather), a great yard, and gardens well suited for family photos. We could not have found a better place. 10 out of 10.
we got there with ease. we picked our rooms. we had nice spaghetti dinner on our first night. then we had breakfasts before we went to the reunion at marriott convention center. we had great tours in mystic and groton. the location is so great.
We loved the house, especially that each bedroom had its own bathroom and 3 bedrooms also had a gas fireplace. The top floor has a cozy entertaining room to watch movies and hang out. The grounds are beautiful and the history of the house is fascinating. I would highly recommend for family gatherings.
This house does not disappoint, it’s a great place for friends re-unions or family gatherings. Great location to the wineries in stonington, 5 minute drive to mystic, beautiful and serene
The house is well appointed and truly lovely. The background history adds to its charm. It’s rare for a house to be able satisfy the needs for so many. It is spacious inside and wonderful outside gatherings as well. We loved it.
We stayed here just this past weekend for a 50th birthday celebration for the group of us as well all just turned 50. We have known each other since college and wanted to celebrate together. This home is perfect for a group. Appointed with everything you could imagine, decorated beautifully, beautiful suites, veranda and 3rd floor gathering space. Close to everything, restaurants, the Mystic Seaport, activities, etc. I can not say enough about the ease of check-in and check-out and will definitely look to stay here again. Beautiful home and beautiful property!
We had our family reunion here and wanted a place where we could hang together (not just sleep). We weren't disappointed. There is the main living room, large dining table we could all sit at, and an upstairs movie/family area where the younger generation could hang. Each room had historical tidbits we'd discover and share. Outdoors is a huge field where we played sports together and enjoyed the large fire pit at night. The house is close to the beach and Mystic Seaport which we enjoyed but most valuable was the time we had just being together, cooking and eating, and lounging around. Thank you for a very meaningful stay!!
This was our group’s second stay at the Stone House, and we could not have asked for better accommodations. When another host canceled our booking on the morning of our arrival, we reached out to Elaine on a long shot since the house was listed as available. She quickly accommodated our request and literally saved our weekend. Simply put, the house is magnificent. On top of the huge lawn and beautiful exterior, it is abundantly clear the pride and passion with which Elaine and her family keep the interior of the house. There was more than enough room for our group to fit comfortably at night, the kitchen made preparing large meals a breeze, and we had plenty of indoor and outdoor space to hang out and eat. The close proximity to downtown Mystic as well as Rhode Island beaches solidifies this house as a fabulous rental property as well. Book it!
Elaine was a great host and the property was beautiful! Highly recommend for a large group.
More than enough room for our family, but cozy. Plenty of privacy and quiet on 2nd floor veranda for those who had to do some work. First floor veranda was absolutely perfect for dinners, especially with a 4 year old and almost 2 year old. Elaine suggested nearby McQuade’s Market for pick up catered meals (with plenty of choices and delicious). Also, Angies has fabulous pizzas! Little ones had plenty of running space and horseshoes, and for corn hole fun! Town is quaint and beautiful. Nearby winery enjoyed by some! Come and enjoy! Thank you for your hospitality, Elaine!
Stayed at Elaine’s house for my wedding weekend and the home was perfect. Elaine was very welcoming and accommodating and the home was fully stocked with anything we could have needed. Friends and family had nothing but great things to say and everyone will be sure to stay at the Stone House their next time in town (if it isn’t already booked!)
House was absolutely gorgeous! It was so cool too see all the history all over the walls. Would recommend this house to anyone. House was so clean and the pictures online didn’t do it justice.
We were a group of 6 couples and the house was perfect ! Elaine was a lovely & gracious host. She has maintained the house wonderfully and it is furnished thoughtfully ! Loved even the outdoors, especially the rock. We would come back again. Thank you
Had a fantastic weekend at the stone house. My brothers and some extended family stayed for a golf/casino trip. The home was lovely and the setting was picturesque. We spent most of the time outside on the covered porch to get relief from the uncharacteristically warm weather and the breeze and shade were welcomed. The great room on the third floor was perfect to watch a game together and socialize without being on top of one another. Bedrooms were spacious and en suite baths helped with our group size. Everyone had their own space throughout the property and there were lovely common areas to spend time with one another. 10/10 recommend. Thanks Elaine!
We rented the stone house with our adult children , spouses and 2 grand babies for a short stay as we had a family wedding in the area. The house was immaculate, kitchen was fully stocked with plenty of plates, pots, pans , utensils and every possible cooking gadget imaginable. The bed linens were clean, soft and comfortable, bathrooms clean and gorgeous. Plenty of space to spread out. The owner had everything marked and labeled and your every possible need / question was taken care of. Very organized which we all loved and appreciated. The property was beautiful with plenty of parking. Great…. great location into Mystic, watch Hill, wineries etc. spectacular views as well. I say house but really it’s a beautiful mansion/castle a true labor of love as the house was restored to magnificent! The history of the house is fascinating the old family photos amazing. This house, mansion, castle is a perfect home for family/friends gathering. Absolutely “Not a house to be abused, but a home to be appreciated and respected”. Our only regret was that we were so wrapped up in the family wedding itinerary/events that we didn’t have the time to truly appreciate this gem of a property. However , we hope to return and spend more time relaxing in this beautiful retreat of a home! Thank you Elaine
