Hobbit House from National News!

Elicia was super communicative and quick to respond when I sent her a few last minute questions. And she was kind enough to loan me some extra blankets when the temperature dropped far below what either of us were expecting for my last night.

This was a fantastic place to stay - unique, accommodating and, most of all, relaxing! The Motherwood property on which Hobbithenge is located is beautiful and remote. When I stayed it was raining, which made it even cozier and more enjoyable instead of being purely burdensome.First the *really* great stuff: Hobbithenge is so cozy. The hand-crafted design details and naturally sourced building materials added character and interest beyond measure, an ambiance brought together by the wood burning stove, for which plenty of wood was available. (There was a fire pit outside, for which you’d need to purchase your own wood at a nearby gas station, but, as I mentioned, it was raining; wish I could’ve used it.)And THE BED in the loft was SO comfortable!! I slept like a baby. The rain pattering on the roof definitely helped.I only used the outdoor kitchen for the sink, to brush my teeth and fill my water bottle, but it was nice to have it available. It was also in the mid-40s for my stay; too cold for my tastes to utilize the outdoor shower but was still nice to know it was there.The outhouse/composting toilet was way more comfortable to use than it had any business being, but it’s well-constructed, contained, and the hay/straw available keeps smells at bay.My only warning is that there are two types of people who may want to avoid staying: neat freaks and those scared of bugs/spiders. It’s a natural space. The floor is earthen and there are spider webs.

Adorable, rustic and unusual ! The out door kitchen is so cool; clean, organized, coffee and tea provided! Highly recommend!

My goal for this trip was a personal spiritual/mental health retreat. I was hoping to find a place where I could spend my entire visit in solitude. ...I achieved that.While I did wish that I was a little bit farther away from people overall, I found that I was satisfactorily alone and undisturbed. The layout of the property lends itself to feeling alone even if others are sort of nearby.The Hobbit hole is sufficiently homey to support one person or a couple, but having a 3rd with you might be kind of a tight squeeze. I would also recommend checking the weather before you go - I was fortunate to have cool mornings and warm-but-not-hot afternoons - things might have been a little uncomfortable if there were a really hot day. There's a furnace for a fire if it's cold but only a small fan if it's hot. I'll definitely look to schedule a future visit in the fall/winter.

My stay was fantastic. The mountain view from the property is beautiful (seeing the stars at night was lovely), the rental itself is so adorable and cozy yet more spacious than expected! Perfect little getaway spot. Thank you!
