Located at the historic estate and summer residence of 2-term New Hampshire Governor Francis P. Murphy, we provide a rustic, yet romantic retreat.
A comfortable sectional sofa with chaise is parked in front of an entertainment center: LED television with surround sound CD/DVD/Stereo. As there is so much to do, see & enjoy in the Dartmouth-Sunapee Region, we don't provide cable (it's supposed to be a vacation after all!)

When you're ready to cook, the kitchen at the Lodge has everything you need. This original and virtually unchanged turn of the century kitchen features original built-ins with modern electric stove and oven. Full-sized refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot and anything else you'll need. A farm style table sits beneath trendy Edison light bulbs for cards, games or meals.
After a day on the road, at the lake or on the slopes, you'll enjoy Governor Murphy's 'Locker Room', with a large walk-in 2-person shower.
Lastly, when you're ready to crash, the Master Bedroom features a large king size sleigh bed with 1000 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets, goose down comforter, and tons of pillows. There is a folding twin cot available by request. There is an air conditioner in the bedroom only for comfortable nighttime sleeping. There is also a white noise machine as well.
This is as close to a truly classic lodge as you'll find this side of the White Mountains with history that we've worked to make comfortable for anyone. We hope you'll love it as much as we do!
Guests have full access to the grounds. Your caretakers Ken & Travis are always available to answer questions, offer advice for activities or the best place to grab a bite.

Space is exactly as pictured, if not better! Property owner was very helpful with area attractions/restaurants/recommendations. Communication before check in, at check in and check out. The bed!!!!!!! Probably the single most comfortable bed we've ever slept on. Spotless and beautifully furnished and decorated. Such close attention to detail and the history of the lodge. So many nice touches from snacks to coffee. They have thought of everything! Many things I wouldn't expect from a homeaway (tylenol, lint roller, shampoo, lotion, etc.) Cannot wait to return!
This rental was awesome!! My wife and I went to New Hampshire for a getaway weekend in February and had a great time. Ken, the owner was very nice and helpful with some information on where to go around town. Communication through the homeaway.com was easy. The rental is very spacious and the bed is a king size and very comfortable!! We loved this place and will be returning to rent in the future. Thanks Ken!! Crystal and Jeff
I can’t say enough about how great our experience was at The Lodge! The property is just as pictured in their add. Kenneth has everything you need to be comfortable from coffee to pain relievers, he has the place ready. The location was perfect for us as we went on day trips to Vermont and Maine. We will gladly stay here again when we return.
Ken and Travis were great to deal with. Ken checked us in and gave us a tour of the lodge. He explained some of the recent renovations which they have done a great job with. The furniture was very nice and the bed was one of the most comfortable that we have come across. We appreciated all the little extras they provided including coffee, cream, bottled water and basics in the kitchen, which had everything you need to prepare a meal. Ken gave us several suggestions on dining options as well as area activities. We really enjoyed the boat cruise on nearby Lake Sunapee. The Lodge is immaculate, spacious, well appointed with a nice balance of old and new and we highly recommend staying with them. It really could not have been any better.
Kenneth was extremely informative and helpful with attractions around the area, quick response back to me, etc...
Beautiful place.. Friendly and very helpful hosts.. Close to Sunapee .. the fells.. shopping.. or just staying in and relaxing..
In booking the property, I went back and forth via messager on VRBO with Kenneth with questions about the property and the area as we were going up for a wedding. He always got back to me right away. In fact, friends of ours needed a place to stay in the area and Kenneth went above & beyond by giving me the names of places close by that would rent to them for just a night (given it was Labor Day Weekend I was concerned they wouldn't be able to find a place for just one night). They even lucked out with his suggestions! Kenneth greeted us upon our arrival at the lodge and took us through the property to be sure we had everything we needed, right down to some things to start us off in the fridge! The place is immaculate. They've done an amazing job restoring the lodge back to it's original look. It's beautiful. The living/dining area is a very large, open concept room with a high ceiling and unique lighting. It has a large stone fireplace that I imagine would be amazing in the winter. A large leather sectional and a smart TV were cozy for the evening catching up on Netflix, Hulu, or a DVD (there is no cable). The bathroom has a large, walk-in 2 person shower and all the linens you would need including comfy white robes for after your shower! The kitchen is quaint and also has everything you would need including k-cups for the Keurig and snacks provided on the counter! The bedroom is quite large with several windows to provide natural light. The bed is, by far, the MOST COMFORTABLE BED we've ever slept on!! Linens are provided. The living area and the bedroom both had A/C's in the windows, which definitely cooled the place down nicely as the days were warm while we were there. As hosts, they were great and very considerate. They live in the main house next door on the property so are very accessible if you need anything (we didn't need a thing though). We were checking out on a Monday morning, but on Sunday evening Kenneth reached out to me that he wanted to use the lawnmower Monday morning around 9am (check-out is 10am), but wanted to make sure that it wouldn't disturb us at that time. We were really impressed with their hospitality! Lastly, the location is great. Close by to restaurants, gas, RiteAid, Shaws, NH Liquor Outlet and many other stores and shops. Very convenient! So, if you're looking for a place in the Sunapee area where all you have to do is show up, this is it!!!
Not to be missed! If you'll be staying in the Lake Sunapee/New London area, you should definitely stay at this gem of a place. Somehow managing to make an historic lodge ultra comfortable, your hosts spare no amenity to make your time in this quiet, charming, and inviting retreat an experience you'll remember for a long time. Stylishly decked out with many cool and retro touches, the highlights for me were the supremely comfortable (and huge!) bed, the giant double shower (with excellent water pressure), and the overall feeling of being utterly at home while on vacation. Everything you could possibly need is provided, and the proprietors are thoughtful and kind hosts who go out of their way - before and during your stay - to make sure you'll enjoy your visit to the fullest. Anything you'd want to visit in the vicinity is only a short drive away, and there is a conveniently close-by shopping plaza with a supermarket. It's a shame that I could only rate on a 5-star scale...this jewel of a getaway deserves 10 out of 5 stars. I don't go many places more than once, but I will return here for sure. Thanks for a truly marvelous time!
We were travelling from Canada to attend our son's college graduation in New Hampshire and wanted to ensure the weekend was extra special, creating lasting memories worthy of the occasion. We were so glad to find The Lodge, and just knew this historic location would offer so much more than your average accommodation. As soon as we arrived we knew how special it was. The beautifully and lovingly restored space featured gleaming hardwood floors, an incredible river rock hearth, luxurious bed and bathroom, exquisite furnishings and decorating - everything was picture-perfect. Our hosts made sure we were comfortable, even setting up a crackling fire for us each night. Beautiful birdsong each morning, watching squirrels from the kitchen window, ambient hearth, sumptuous bathrobes - just a few extraordinary elements of our stay. The Lodge feels like it's in a private forest oasis, yet is close to everything. It exudes New England history, and we felt like we were eavesdropping time travellers (only with the advantages of modern amenities). Comfortable, pristine, and truly special, The Lodge offered us absolutely everything we were hoping for, and created memories which will last a lifetime. We look forward to returning soon!
This place is beautiful. My husband and I went for a romantic weekend and it was perfect. The best night of sleep in a great new bed. The place has a lot of character and it has been completely restored. Our hosts were wonderful, they treated us like family and made a delicious breakfast sources locally. They will spoil you as if you were in a 5 star hotel. There is not much to do in the town so you definitely need a car but it's a quick drive to lake Sunappe and other cool areas nearby. Travis, Ken, thank you so much! Our stay was perfect thanks to you both! Hope to come back!
