Enjoy this 100-year old rustic log cabin, nestled high in the San Juan National Forest, overlooking peaceful Lemon Lake.
Step back in time to enjoy a high-mountain rustic retreat, hidden from the road on 35 quiet acres. This charming, quintessential Colorado mountain log cabin has 3 bedrooms + sleeping loft, 2 bathrooms, 2 living rooms + stunning lake views and easy access to hiking trails + lake and/or stream fishing. Lemon Lake Log Cabin is a scenic & mellow 25 minute drive from Durango and offers all the quiet, and outdoor access you could want, while not being too far out to enjoy the fun that Durango has to offer. The cabin, along with neighboring Big Barn (available to rent separately or together for larger parties) are the only 2 properties with lake views along the south end of the lake…bonus: no other visible neighbors!
The owners have opted for 2 separate living rooms to maximize inside seating comfort for families and larger groups, leaving dining to be done al fresco on the deck outside. Dining outside can accommodate up to 12 with 2 tables + provided space heaters for colder nights). Fire up the grill outside and enjoy eating on the deck overlooking the lake - perhaps you'll even see the Bald eagles that roost just down by the lake flying about. On the main level, you will find a hard-working kitchen with 3 counter-seats, stocked with a Keurig & Breville espresso machine, French-presses (for tea and coffee), Calphalon and Lodge cookware, along with a wood-burning fireplace and cozy living room (+ TV).
Downstairs, there's another living room where you can open the French doors (with phantom screens to keep the critters out) and enjoy the Colorado air while watching movies on the larger TV/DVD player.
2 TV's + DVD player, board games, vintage fly-fishing library and a 10-year collection of National Geographics can entertain you on days spent inside, but even better, head outside to the lake for fly fishing or hiking.
100-year old log-beam walls throughout are offset with new furniture from Restoration Hardware, Article and West Elm, along with carefully collected vintage pieces to add to the old-school charm. Beds have new Cocoon or Saatva mattresses and luxury down pillows and duvets. If you're looking for a classic Colorado cabin experience, (with modern amenities), this is your spot.

Bed Configuration:
Open loft - Queen Bed (Upper Level)
2nd Bedroom - King Bed (Main Level)
3rd Bedroom - Twin Bed (Main Level)
4th Bedroom - King Bed (Lower Level)

Great cabin with nice amenities and off the beaten path. Caution with the water use and know there is no cell service in the immediate area. WiFi works great though.

We loved the location and the combination of a rustic log cabin with all the modern convenience. Very quiet, especially at night. Close enough to town for a quick trip, but far enough away to avoid the crowds. Access was a bit of a challenge for my 79 & 75 yo parents, but they were able park up the hill and walk to the “front” door and avoid, the deck stairs, rock steps and basement staircase. We were already talking about next time days before our departure. Saw deer and turkey at the cabin along with elk and bald eagles down at the lake. Can't wait to book here again. Great communication from the team regarding access, checkout and a countywide fire restriction implemented during our stay.

Beautiful mountain location overlooking the water. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Cabin was clean and well-appointed. Everything we needed was there. Comfortable beds. Deck has ample seating for enjoying the view. Deck rails in poor condition. Top rail needs replacing. Make sure to check in before arriving at cabin. No internet or cell service available until you get inside.

The information provided in the description was misleading to say the least. The location was more remote than was described, the cabin was not as updated as indicated in the description. The cabin was much smaller than explained, the furniture was old and uncomfortable, access was difficult and the landline did not work. We actually ended up renting another place that met our standards.. The deck area is unbeatable, but it doesn't make up for the issues inside the cabin. This could be a dream spot if the conditions of the cabin matched the deck.

The management was great and responsive and the place is wonderful. The cabin is rustic which is what we wanted, just be aware that when you get a rustic cabin you can expect some bugs and imperfections. Location is beautiful and serene with the deck overlooking Lemon Reservoir and tons of access to nearby trails and creek fishing! Oh, and if you do fly fish you will want to add a couple extra days just to parse through the library of books they have. I wouldn't be dissuaded from renting here again but here are some things to just keep in mind. Cobwebs on lights and very outdated appliances in the kitchen that were a bit finicky to work with. If you plan on making your meals here just know that things are not in the best condition. The kitchen does have quite a few seasonings, condiments, etc. but they need to be sorted out as a lot of them are expired. One of the showers appeared to have not been cleaned and there are only four chairs with the dining table on the deck and no dining table inside. Bring your own soap, shampoo, and conditioner unless you're ok with a 3-1 bottle that is provided for in the showers. Amazing firepit with plenty of wood provided and a couple of outdoor propane heaters on the deck were great to use on cooler mornings during breakfast. Overall, a great rustic experience, but at the price point I would expect a bit more from the kitchen and seating for eating with more than just four people. Some chairs for the firepit wouldn't hurt either.

My husband and I brought our dog with us on our second trip to the experience the incredible beauty of Durango while escaping the Arizona heat. We were seeking a property removed from the city and offering incredible views of the forest, wildlife and mountains. While the cabin did offer beautiful views of the lake while sitting on the deck and allowed us to see some of the local wildlife, we were not expecting another property so close to where we were staying and thought more trails would be on the property. However, our biggest disappointment was inside the cabin. The railings on the interior staircase are loose, creating a hazard. Flyswatters were in multiple locations throughout the house, offering a less than desirable effect. This fly issue was particularly evident at the kitchen door area. As a result, we opened this door when absolutely necessary. Although one main goal was to have a forest experience, we did not expect it to include fly infestation. While offered use of the spices in the pantry, all were expired. We both used the downstairs shower since the upstairs was smaller than the photo, but my first use revealed a large clump of hair in the drain. Similar circumstances existed with the dryer vent when I washed towels and found the dryer lint filter completely overflowing. Taken individually, these may seem like minor details but for the price paid and expectations given, unfortunately the conditions at the historic log cabin fell short.
