Welcome to Happy Apple!
Happy Apple is a charming, historic, 3BR farmhouse cottage that has been completely renovated and updated to meet the demands of even the most discerning guests! Even so, the property is arguably its greatest asset, as it sits on over 6 acres just a few miles outside of downtown Blowing Rock, with crisscrossing creeks and streams, footbridges, walking paths, a creekside fire pit, two picnic areas with charcoal grills, a gazebo, a small playhouse, and a huge grassy meadow that's perfect for children and dogs to run and play safely! There is a small playhouse on the property next to the main house that children will enjoy. The well-known Bolick Pottery property borders Happy Apple. Bolick Pottery has numerous social events throughout the spring, summer, and fall, where they invite the public to tour the workshop, purchase special pieces from their gift shop, meet the potters and the Bolick family, as well as live music on certain weekends!
The house itself is a charming two-story home that has been completely renovated and updated with hardwood floors and large rooms throughout! The main level is open with high ceilings, spacious living and dining areas, and a nice kitchen with Granite counters and stainless appliances. The open concept offers numerous areas to sit, relax, gather, play games, and watch TV on the HD Smart TV. There is a laundry room with a washer and a dryer, and a half bathroom on the main level as well. The front porch is covered with plenty of room to relax in rocking chairs and look out over the meadow, fire pit, gazebo, creeks, and streams.
Upstairs offers a cozy den, master bedroom with a King bed and Smart HDTV, second King bedroom, and a bunk bedroom with two sets of Twin over Twin bunk beds. All three bedrooms are spacious and boast tongue and groove vaulted ceilings with exposed beams. The central full bathroom upstairs has also been updated and features a double sink, tub, and shower. All bedrooms have individual climate controls to ensure guests can heat and cool to their liking, making Happy Apple comfortable during all four seasons!
Located conveniently, Happy Apple is less than a mile off of Highway 321, making it ideal for those coming up from and through the Charlotte area! Downtown Blowing Rock is only a few miles away; both Tweetsie Railroad and Appalachian Ski Mountain are about 5 miles away. Boone is about ten miles away, making Valle Crucis, Sugar Mtn, Grandfather Mtn, and everything else there is to enjoy in the High Country convenient to guests staying at Happy Apple.

Property was beautiful.. house clean and comfortable.. internet and cell phone service is horrible..
Great to back at this beautiful house, just as we remembered. Very convenient for activities and hiking, we had a super vacation. Management company was very responsive.
I loved this place! My fiance and I planned to have a small get away to celebrate our new marriage with friends and family. Couldn't of picked a better place. The pictured turned out amazing and my friends and family was really impressed with the land house and attention to detail. Very cute, private, quite and plenty of space for a small group of friends and family to enjoy new memories together!
We love the large yard for our dog Bodie to run and frolic. The cabin is spacious with an awesome kitchen. Beds are comfortable and cozy. We love how quiet the location is but also so close to BR and Moses Cone. Perfect location!
Adorable house and beautiful yard. Only complaint would be the spotty internet service.
First the good: the house is absolutely adorable—just as described, well stocked with lots of extras, the property itself is big and beautiful, the front porch is a dream, the beds are comfortable, and it was very clean. The playhouse is cute but my kids didn’t play in it as it looked very buggy and dusty and spidery and hadn’t been swept out or cleaned in a while. Fortunately there were lots of toys inside and my kids also really enjoyed playing in the field and on the porch. The negative is that there was no flexibility whatsoever with the cancellation policy. Part of my family got Covid and I called one week prior to our arrival to see if they would be willing to re-list the property. I explained that I understood that if it didn’t rent we’d be on the hook for the full four nights we’d rented it, but asked if they would consider trying to rent it to someone else for any or all of the nights we had reserved so that we could get at least a portion of our money back. I was told no exceptions. I found this very frustrating as I know that Fourth of July is a big travel weekend and they could have likely rented it for at least some of the four nights, charged us a cancellation fee, and made even more money. Furthermore if it didn’t rent then we’d be on the hook for the full amount—so it was no risk to them. Basically they were well within their rights to say no to us (as they did) but the rental agency had the opportunity to potentially help a family and earn loyalty from us and they chose not to even try. Ultimately as this was a sizeable portion of our summer vacation budget we will not be able to come another weekend this summer and it was disappointing to be able to only come as a partial family group knowing that almost any other weekend we could have come as our full group. For this reason in the future we will not rent here again, given the reality of Covid and being a larger family with small children, I will seek out rental homes with better cancellation policies. (Yes I realize many families would have still all come but we were not comfortable exposing our children to the sick family members as we have tried to be responsible and always follow strict cdc policies and minimize community spread.)
House is wonderful and well equipped. Kids bunk beds were super fun, the kitchen was great, and the fire pit setting was perfect. Looking forward to coming back to stay.
Beautiful property and spacious rooms; enjoyed fire pit and amenities; children enjoyed visit from Coco, the neighbor’s little friendly dog; conveniently located to area sites; kitchen well stocked; and loved all the available games Would hope to return some day
We enjoyed the proximity to downtown Blowing Rock. The property is very nice, with ample room to play outside. The inside has been recently renovated and is super cute. However there is a very strong odor of cat urine throughout the downstairs, in the stairwell, and upstairs hall. It was so strong we had to keep the windows open and light a candle any time we were in the house. We tried to give the property manager an opportunity to rectify the smell before leaving a review, but their only response was thank you for the feedback. The odor significantly impacted our stay and we felt it was important to let others know since it does not seem to be a priority to fix. Im sure the owners put their heart and soul into the renovations, and hope that once the oder is remedied it will be a wonderful place to stay. One other issue was lack of reliable internet, which was a safety issue when there were several tornado warnings issued one night we were there. Since our cell phones did not work well there, having access to local TV would have made us much more informed. Maybe just adding an antenna to the TV would be helpful so that if the internet is down we still have access to important safety information.
easy drive there, very close to blowing rock and Boone. Beds very comfortable. Only suggestion would be to have a manual for guest to refer to operate tv, heater downstairs, etc..people get used to how their own appliances work and would be helpful to refer to a manual about operating other things...not everyone has Roku or a heater like the downstairs unit. However, we figured it out and everything worked like it should. Not sure who to tell, but the fridge kept blinking about a filter needing to be changed. We would be happy to stay again . Thank you
This home and the surrounding property are beautiful. We enjoyed the chiminea and the kids loved exploring the streams. The house was larger than expected and perfectly accommodated our group of 4 adults and 4 kids. It only took about 15 minutes to get to Appalachia Ski Mountain. Our only complaint is that the floors are not well sanded, and we had to remove multiple splinters during our 4 day stay. We would definitely stay again, but would bring thick soled slippers for protection!
