Almont, Colorado
The one of a kind, historic, "Almont Adobe House!" Located riverfront with private fishing and National Forest access, only 15 minutes to both Crested Butte and Gunnison.
This must try experience of the Adobe House is new to the market this year! Updates to the home have allowed for all the modern amenities while preserving the home's Native American authenticity. This special property offers close proximity to endless outdoor activities (skiing, biking, boating, hiking, off road trails, etc.). Among the most popular, world class fishing and whitewater rafting only a few steps off your private deck.
Over a 100 years ago the homesteading family had many options in the Gunnison Valley. It's no wonder they chose this area early on, considered by many locals to be one of the best properties in the county. The Adobe House was originally built in the 1920s as a fishing camp and artist getaway. Tucked away on an acre at the end of a private road surrounded by National Forest, it's a unique natural reserve type setting. This provides your own secluded world of outdoor enjoyment. The bordering National Forest land gives exclusive easy access to over a mile of additional fishable river and countless miles of hiking not easily accessible to the public. As part of the Almont Triangle big game range, you'll see wildlife in the area such as big horn sheep, elk, deer, bald eagles, and much more. You'll quickly find this location and access to these amenities are unique to the property giving you a mountain getaway that will take you back a century in time.
Today, it's a short walk to Three Rivers Resort and The Almont Resort offering two restaurants with bars and great food. They also provide services such as fly fishing supplies, white water rafting, various outfitting and guided tours, as well as a small store providing popular provisions. A free bus in front of the Almont Resort will take you to Gunnison and Crested Butte which are both about ~15 minutes away (downloadable app to track bus location available). Enjoy all the restaurants, shopping, and recreation that both Crested Butte and Gunnison have to offer. Pay less to play there while retreating back to your peaceful and private land and bungalow on the river.
This home has 3 bedrooms and one and a half bathrooms. The first two bedrooms (2) having King beds and the third room has a (1) Bunk bed that is a double on the bottom and twin bed on top! The third bedroom is currently waiting for the installation of a sliding barn door, so right now it only has a sheet for privacy from the living room. This homeowner has also recently upgraded his internet service to 60MB.

We had the best time! Couldn’t ask for a better location! House was cozy!
Diamond in the rough! Secluded but close enough to get provisions if needed. Highly recommend
Our family had a great stay at the Adobe house. It was a great way to rejuvenate in the mountains. We loved sitting by the River and watching the birds. The house was cozy and we even had time for smores at the firepit. We had everything we needed for a quick getaway. We will hopefully be back. Thank you for sharing your home with us.
Everything was great, Two minor issues, washer was broken, didn’t get fixed while we were there and house wasn’t quite ready at checkin
The Adobe House was wonderful for our family stay. It is not a huge home, but it was well equipped, had a great kitchen area and a cozy living area. It was perfect for our stay. The river is beautiful and is so nice to be so close. The fire ring was a great area to sit back at the end of the day. Very simple process, good email communication from management. We would stay here again.
Really good spot.
Great place and relaxing. The outdoor area is the best. Unfortunately the coffee maker did not work. We love our coffee so we bought a new one and left there for the next guests. Also the king bed in the master is so soft that two people couldn’t sleep there. You would sink to the middle of the bed. The only other complaint was with the management company who sent the email with entrance codes. Well the codes were listed for the wrong doors! Very frustrating since there is little to no cell service in the area! The front door code was listed for the garage door and the garage door code was listed as the front door.
Nice location in the canyon, last house on the road. Good to have a garage and two king beds.
Property was nice . Lots of animals including bighorn sheep.
Peaceful location next to the Taylor River. We saw Mountain Sheep the entire stay. It's perfectly situated between Gunnison and Crested Butte for easy access to mountain biking, hiking, and fishing.
We loved the seclusion while being close to the resort and not too far from CB and Gunnison.
I did not get to go. My friends were impressed.
We had a long weekend get away with our small family of 3 (and dog) prior to our daughter moving off to college. The property was just what we needed. It gave us the isolation that we craved, yet at the same time was a perfect convenient location being right in between Gunnison and CB. We also enjoyed being near Three Rivers Resort and Altmont Resort and the ability to utilize their services. The property itself is very well displayed in the pictures on VRBO. The beds were fantastic and very comfortable. The appliances, cookware, and kitchen accessories were top quality and abundant. We used the Weber gas grill to cook most of our meals and it was terrific. It was absolutely perfect in size for our group. If you were planning on spending a lot of time there, I would say that 4 people would be the perfect amount. It will comfortably sleep 6, but might get a little claustrophobic if all 6 were constantly in the house at the same time. If your group was active and only used it for sleeping purposes, you would be fine. Peak Property Management was great to work with......Michelle, McKenzie, and Ren all helped us at one point or another and all were courteous, accommodating, and truly cared about their renters. We were able to check in a little early, because the schedule worked out to do so, and they made it happen for us. The setting of this little adobe house was magnificent.....It was placed directly between the high bluffs and literally 40 steps from the river. We saw the group of big horn sheep 2 out of the 4 days that we were there--what amazing climbers. Our dog enjoyed the nice big yard of native Colorado grasses and plants. We spent a great deal of time soaking in the beauty on the back deck. The view never got old. Overall, we had a wonderful experience enjoying the perfect combination of outdoors, great shops and restaurants in CB, local golf and fishing, as well as the cabin itself. If you are looking for a great location in the Gunnison/CB area, yet want a secluded feel, this is a great place for your small group of all ages.
The house was pretty and perfectly in the middle of Crested Butte and Gunnison. My only small complaint is there aren't any grocery stores, gas stations and one of the two pubs was closed during our stay. But the seclusion and quiet has it's perks, too. Plus a short drive away are two towns with plenty of amenities and great places to eat. The house was beautiful and clean. Taylor River was wonderful. Had a great stay.
We loved the privacy since we had 2 dogs with us. Access to the river was a plus. The view was spectacular! However, the yard could have been edged around the house and trees. There was empty bottles and wrappers behind the nightstand. Overall we would come back.
Great location
Wonderful experience, I will definitely be back!
Our 2nd stay. A place you'd like to own as a cabin in the country/mountains. Has everything you need without being an over the top model home type of place. You can relax here and enjoy the area and the river. Half way between Gunni & CB. I recommend. Hope you consider this one.
The weather was great and the views were super from the house and yard. We will return in the future for sure. Thanks, Ron
