Lots to see and do this time of year in and around Albuquerque! Late August through September is chile roasting season - a delicious smell across the city. Fascinating to watch for a few minutes, and roasted green chiles are delicious as part of a meal! You can also find this year’s chile ristras right through the fall. We’ll be putting new ones on the front of the house as soon as they become available with the harvest.

Come explore, peruse, hike, write, dine, or justsit still someplace shady and watch that New Mexico sky. See below for more ideas.

Enjoy the glamor and Southwestern charm of this old, territorial style home. The Old Town House in the museum district is an authentic adobe, built c. 1902. Directly cross the street from Tiguex Park, and about a block from the center of historic Old Town Plaza, the location is unmatched. With original wood floors, beamed ceilings, and foot thick walls, this house evokes the romance of the Old West, and is a fantastic base for your Albuquerque adventures.

Three bedrooms and two baths accommodate 6 (2 queen beds and 1 full bed, as well as a sleeper sofa in the living room, which adds flexibility in sleeping arrangements). The en suite master bath features a claw foot tub, the second bedroom has a gas kiva fireplace, and soft lighting is achieved in all three bedrooms with chandeliers. An open floor plan connects the living room and kitchen. All kitchen appliances are stainless. An adjoining sitting room (with its own gas kiva fireplace) allows views of the park through a side lit French door. The dining room seats 6 comfortably. There is off street parking for two vehicles parked in tandem (for example, a large pickup and regular sized sedan will both fit).

The back yard patio area is equipped with three bistro tables and six chairs, as well as a charcoal grill.

This is a great place for a girls' weekend. It serves well as a retreat for writing projects. With the fireplaces, clawfoot tub, and location near the plaza, it works nicely for a romantic getaway. Walking distance to the Hotel Albuquerque, Hotel Chaco, and the new Sawmill Market, and only a short distance from the Convention Center, it makes an excellent base from which to attend area conferences. With the park across the street, the Explora! museum across the park, and plenty for families to do nearby, this house also works well as a base for families looking to take a break, while including some science, art, history, outdoor activity and fun.

My staff is using best practices for cleaning in accordance with the NM Safe program.

Here are things to Do in Albuquerque:

Check out the Albuquerqueoldtown and the visitalbuquerque sites to see upcoming events.

Here are a few of local restaurants of note (there are many other fabulous ones in Old Town, and throughout Albuquerque, but these are some of my favorites):

Blackbird Coffee in the Patio Market - kind of a secret garden vibe. They are on FB, and are located a short walk west of the house in the courtyard on the southeast side of the Plaza.

Sawmill Market - a food hall within walking distance of the house with a fabulous collection of things to eat, and a very cool building housing it all.

The St. Claire Winery and Bistro - great food, often live music, and local New Mexico wines. About a five minute drive (with traffic).

Church St. Cafe - near the Plaza - New Mexican cuisine with several beautiful, interesting seating areas, including a lovely one outside.

High Noon - near the Plaza - In one of the oldest adobes in town. Great food.

Seasons - within walking distance - upscale, great food, good service.

If you are of a mind to add some interesting, fresh, local ingredients to your own cooking at the house, try Tiny Grocer ABQ - a micro grocer and farm cafe - about a 4 minute walk from the house.

Golden Crown Panederia - Bakery which gets rave reviews in my guest book.

Remedy Coffee - Less than a 10 minute walk to Lomas. Pretty little patio and also a generously sized back room with a kiva fireplace.

Slow Burn Coffee - a 15 minute walk east on Mountain Rd. Great coffee!

Flying Star - About a 10 minute drive north on Rio Grande. Cafe with a robust menu, good coffee, fun deserts. In the summer, the shaded patio is particularly lovely. In cooler months, the patio also has a fireplace.

There is also a Starbucks (with a fireplace) about 4 minutes away by car, or about a 15 minute walk.

For provisions to cook at the house, in addition to Tiny Grocer ABQ (mentioned above), there is Lowe’s Market a .7 miles easy walk (14 minutes) from the house - a standard grocery store. If you have a vehicle, La Montañita Food Co-op's location at 2500 12th St. is about a 5-7 minute drive away - lots of local produce, some local meats, lots of natural personal care products, and a nice collection of locally sourced sundries. They are in their brand new location (as of March 2026) near the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, and across the street from a number of restaurants.

There are also several farmer’s markets in the area. Closest is probably the Downtown Growers’ Market - Visit the Downtown Growers' Market in 2026
Saturdays (April - November) from 8 am-noon | At Robinson Park in Downtown Albuquerque (1.3 miles from the house).

This wonderful adobe is our Albuquerque home whenever we visit! Its beautiful decor adds so much to our experience of the Southwest, and it has ALL the amenities to make our stay very comfortable and so enjoyable. Communications with the host are always great and we absolutely love the location!

This house is ADORABLE! It had everything we needed. The location is the best part. It's right across from a great park and Old Town is just one block away. Lot's of great places to eat and shop. The beds were comfy and the kitchen had everything you will need. Communication with host was great and it was super easy to get the keys. Parking was a bit tricky as the space is tight and the house itself is on a small street with cars parked on the other side so getting in and out proved a bit difficult. But after a day, we got used to it and it became a breeze. Couple of notes for future guests, there are some handy luggage/shoe racks at the end of each bed. They are great for storage but I'd say move them from the end of the bed. In the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, two of us slammed our shins on them and had shiners for the whole stay. Our fault for sure. And there are bullhead thorns outside and in the backyard that will be picked up on the soles of your shoes, and then dropped all over the house. Which you then step on with your bare feet and ouch!! This was solved by all of us simply taking our shoes off near the front door. The TV could be bigger, my family happens to be big movie watchers so we came home each night and chose a movie. Honestly for me, it was fine. But my dad wanted something bigger. Other than that, everything was impeccable. You can't beat this location, and the adobe style house is adorable. Hot air balloon festival was great!

Slow contact with the owner. Lockbox code had been changed without notification. Home interior temperature was over 90 degrees and it took the swamp cooler over 24 hours to cool the home. The positives were a playground across the street and the Old Town Plaza was only 2 blocks away.

Carol’s historic home was, once again, the perfect home base for our Albuquerque visit! (This was our third stay!) The house is delightful with its beautiful local décor and very well designed and comfortable interior and exterior spaces. Coming from the Northeast, we feel that staying in Carol’s home greatly enhances our whole experience of visiting the Southwest. We greatly enjoyed all parts of the house from the wonderful dining room with its spacious table to the cozy living room, to the very comfortable bedrooms, as well as the back yard where tables provided a beautiful space for relaxing evening meals! Even the cute kitchen is very much in keeping with the house style but is also well equipped and very functional! The location cannot be beat; it is literally across the street from the expansive Tiguex Park, and just steps to multiple museums, as well as to all the beautiful shops, cafes and restaurants of Old Town. Its location also provides easy driving access in any direction for day trips in the Albuquerque area and its surroundings. We would highly recommend Carol’s home to anyone visiting the area!

Perfect location. Listing is as advertised. Only improvement is that the TV reception is a bit wonky (low resolution image and freezes from time to time). But that might not matter to most people who will be spending their time outside the home.

We had a wonderful weekend stay right in the heart of Old Town, and a the same time quiet and peaceful. The house is lovely and full of character that makes you feel as if you’ve stepped back into Albuquerque’s past. Yet in spite of all the charm it has all the modern updates you need and expect!

Our second stay at Carol's home was just as perfect as the first time! The wonderful adobe house - with beautiful Southwestern decor and all amenities - has added so much to our Albuquerque experience. We love that the location is so close to Old Town and just across the street from Tiguex Park. We highly recommend this home and we definitely plan to book it again!

We were 4 women attending a program at nearby Hotel Albuquerque. The location of this home is fabulous & not just because of its proximity to Hotel Albuquerque. First, it was an easy 10 minute walk to Hotel Albuquerque and it seemed a safe walk at night on wide even walkways. We discovered a half block away the ABQ Tiny Grocery & the restaurant next door. Breakfast there was very good with some unique twists. You can buy a loaf of fresh sourdough & jam (& some fresh fruit & veggies) at the Tiny Store when you are done with breakfast. A lovely park is right across the street from the house & the Albuquerque Museum is very close by. There are many walkable stores in Old Town & the Sawmill area which we just didn’t have time for as well as other sites & activities. The home itself is charming & cozy, the beds comfortable, the kitchen has everything you need. The back patio is lovely in the morning. We visited in the summer. Be sure to understand the difference between a swamp cooler, typical for the area & air conditioning in other parts of the country. With the swamp cooler & bedroom fans at night- it worked for us. Carol the manager was very responsive when we had questions both before & after arrival. This home was perfect!
