Hale Mauka - Family-friendly 3BD/2BA House With Modern Furnishings

For my first time renting a BnB style cabin, i was pleasantly surprized with how thoughtful and family-fun oriented they had set everything up to be. I think it was the small things that really added up to it being a very pleasant stay. Will be back.

We had an really excellent stay. The house was clean, warm, comfortable for two families (each with two kids), and affordable. The location was very convenient for us, the kids loved sledding in the backyard every day. It was a wonderful home base for a great long weekend. Having the FireTV app on my iPhone helped a lot with managing the television.

Our host was kind and responsive. We had some issues with tech but were able to get it resolved. The amenities were ok, but had anticipated common items like shower soap and sponges and trash bags to be available. I think refreshing and updating their guest binder and directions for checking in would go a long way to make for a smoother stay for future guests.Otherwise, it was cozy, and plenty of space for all our guests. We had a good time!

Hale Mauka is as wonderful for a families as all the reviews suggest. With three teenage sons between our two families, my brother's and my family had a memorable Christmas with several feet of snow, lots of good food that was easy to prepare in the well-equipped kitchen, and many hours of board games played on the nice big dining room table. Ed and Bernadette were kind and responsive hosts. I also appreciated the details that made it all work well - ample soft towels, lots of lanterns and a wood burning stove to make it through the power outage comfortably in the big snow storm, a great house layout for two families with room for separate and together time.

Very easy check-in and the cabin is comfortable, well-maintained, and clean! We enjoyed the kitchen especially, bc it was very well-appointed. Thanks for a great stay!

Truckee is a great place to stay. Place was great w/ the bunk room and location to downtown and Donner Lake.

We brought my sons family including their 10 YO and 19 Month Old children. Plenty of fun toys and games. We would have liked a little empty cupboard space in the kitchen and a few less stairs but we had a great time. We appreciated the access to tech and all the plush bedding.

We had a great stay. Cabin is just the perfect size for our family. It has all the things we needed. Good communication with host. Bed is comfortable. Kids enjoyed sledding at the back. Highly recommended.

My wife and 2 kids (3 and 2) had a great time at this location. Did a little sledding in the backyard, skiing at Donner ski hill (couple minute drive), sledding at the main sled hill on Northwoods and went to some good restaurants in the area. The location was perfect for our little getaway.

Cozy, clean, and comfortably well-stocked for a family, from the well-appointed kitchen to the board games and sleds. And responsive owner.

This is our second year coming to Hale Mauka for a winter trip and both times have been wonderful! The cabin is cozy, the backyard is a sledder’s dream, and Ed and Bernadette are helpful and caring hosts. Five stars!!

This was the perfect place to stay with my young children and inlaws. The downstairs bed/bath gave the inlaws some space and privacy (and us some distance from snoring ;P) while the upstairs bunkroom and 2nd bedroom/bathroom was ideal for us and the kids. The common living/dining area was cozy and the backyard was great for sledding with little kids. Also the property is close to many ski options, and the property as a whole was very clean and well maintained. We would definitely stay again!

We had a wonderful 4 night stay at this property. The house was extremely clean. We all slept well. It’s very close to Sugarbowl where we have passes. Easy access to Safeway too. If you want take-out, not many places deliver so be prepared to pick up or just enjoy dinner out.Great communication with property owner and plenty of dry wood and kindling for the fireplace.Just two items to note: Alder Creek is a busy street and not appropriate to walk on. We enjoy walks in the neighborhood and to hiking trails. Not recommended here. Better to drive. Also, during the winter, there can be a lot of ice on the stairs leading to the house from the garage. Proceed with caution, especially when you are carrying something like wood from the garage to the house. All in all a great stay! We definitely recommend this home for families.

We stayed for one week over the New Years and had a wonderful time. The home is in a prime location for snow play. My kids had a wonderful time playing in the snow and sledding everyday. The home is well stocked with everything we needed. Ed communicated with us before and during our stay. I would not hesitate to book this home again for our next trip to Truckee.

This place was cozy and exactly what we needed for a quick weekend getaway!

Great value. Not fancy, but very friendly and welcoming place. Perfect for a family trip. Clean. Kids loved the games; we did a puzzle. Only issue was an issue getting the PS3 controllers to work, but probably for the best as kids had no excuse to be inside…

We used Hale Mauka as our base residence for the Western States 100, and it worked out perfectly. It was an easy commute to Palisades (Olympic Village) for pre-race events and to race start. Truckee was right down the hill and had everything we needed. The residence was comfortable and clean and exactly what the pictures showed and was described. Had everything needed to serve large meals if so inclined to do so. The locals (bear, deer, racoons, and coyotes) wandered by to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. Hale Mauka really made our experience in the Tahoe area so relaxing and carefree.
