Constructed in 1910, Grandmother’s House is a historic craftsman style home that was built by the Murphy family (also known as Murphy’s Oil). It is a 2700 plus square foot 2 story stucco home that has withstood the test of time with grace and style. It has been lovingly given new life, and we are happy to share it for many to enjoy.

It sits on Pecan street across and on the same corner from our other listings ‘The Pecan House', 'The Boho House', ‘The White House’ and 'The Little House on Pecan.
Two blocks and around the corner is also our home 'The Hickory Hill House’.

Grandmother’s House sits in the culturally and
socioeconomically diverse historic downtown lot and block neighborhood of Texarkana, Arkansas, just blocks from the Texas and Arkansas state line. Multiple restaurants 1 to 4 miles away. It is just a few blocks to the downtown historic and entertainment district. Approximately 2 miles south from 130.

Step back in time with a stay at Grandmother’s House. It has been decorated with many antique and vintage items collected from the families associated with Pecan Properties. Many of the items came from our own grandmothers’ homes. We hope that everyone staying here recognizes something they remember from their own past whether it be from their childhood at their grandparents’ home or other friend or family’s residence. The goal was to create a unique space with a sense of nostalgia. We hope that every decade from the 20th century is represented here but with the ultimate result of a home that is inviting and comfortable. Grandmother’s House has many spacious rooms, a large yard (not fenced), and a phenomenal front porch that has approximately 850 square feet of space with tables, chairs, and rockers.

Inside, the home has two living areas. A fireplace in the formal living area with electric logs can be used with or without heat. There is a square grand piano (non working at this time) and an ELECTRIFIED pump organ that is working in the formal space. Both musical instruments are from the 1800’s. The casual living area has a 50 inch Roku TV with an electric fireplace as well. The home has been converted to all electric. NO gas appliances or heat in home.

There is a formal dining area and a full kitchen with breakfast area. Two large bedrooms are downstairs. One has King bed and the other has a queen bed with day bed and trundle. Both bedrooms have 40 inch Roku TV’s. On the back sunporch, there is a front load washer and dryer and also a daybed with trundle. There are two full baths downstairs. One has a bathtub without shower and the other has a shower but no bathtub.

Upstairs, is approximately 700 square feet of open space. There is a queen bed and three full beds upstairs. Full bathroom with tub/shower combo and a 50 inch TV mounted over an electric fireplace.

All TV’s are Roku smart TV’s. There is NO cable or satellite. High speed FIBEROPTIC internet provided. There is covered parking for one vehicle. Another vehicle can be parked off-street behind the covered vehicle. Otherwise, there is plenty of curbside parking in the front and side of this home. We own the houses on all four corners of this intersection.

There is a carriage house behind Grandmother’s House. Renovation is starting soon (6/2024), and it will also be listed in the coming months. Any renovation there should not negatively impact any guests’ experience at Grandmother’s House. There is a separate driveway for the carriage house. The two houses share four city lots of yard space.

We would like to thank our host, James, for our wonderful stay. He was very nice, answered our messages promptly, and was very accommodating. The house was so clean and beautiful! We loved all the antiques! I wish we could have spent more time actually at the house! It was perfect for our wedding group! The upstairs bedoom had plenty of room for the guys and there was plenty of room downstairs for the rest of us!

I rented Grandmas House for my Daughters Graduation and it was amazing. The house was so quaint and intimate. At 48 I really felt like I was back at my granny’s. The neighborhood was quiet and inviting. It was also close to the Walmart and Dollar Tree which is always a plus. Definitely would recommend!

PROs: The host is kind and was easily reachable when needed. Check in and check out were simple. AC works great! Fully furnished, comfy beds and fully equipped kitchen. Plenty of room that accommodated our party of 7 adults. Car port easily accommodated 3 mid size cars and had plenty of street parking in the front. The neighbors were pleasant. The porch was a great place to hang out. The vintage furniture are beautiful and appreciated. CONs: Wifi is spotty in some areas of the house. Narrow & steep staircase to upper level (not ideal for elders or small children). Uneven flooring in some areas (not ideal for those that suffer with vertigo). Old house have their spirits, this didn't bother us nor did they bother us. Although the outer surrounding neighborhood was unappealing, this house along with houses across from it were true 'gems in the midst'. Other VRBO guests in their VRBOs were kind and friendly. We had no problems at all with the neighbors nor surrounding area neighborhood. At no time did we feel any threats of thefts or danger. Downtown Texarkana is slowly being renovated but there are establishments worth visiting now. Albertsons, Starbucks, various fast food places & restaurants are within minutes of driving. Most notable is the customer service very kind and respectable.

We enjoyed our stay at Grandmother’s House while in town for a family reunion. The house has plenty of comfortable beds for a large group. The furnishings are awesome and include a lot of antiques. We had everything that was needed for a great weekend. The neighborhood is very pretty.

We rented two houses on opposite corners from the same owner for our family reunion. It was such a fun time. We were all 64yo & older. Even though the houses are not handicap accessible, we were able to make it work for the 4 days we were there. We loved the antiques in both houses. The houses are in a low income area. Safety was never a concern. Would recommend!!
