The space
The Clear Lake Cottage has all the charm of being an original Farmhouse built in 1915, along with modern furnishings and updates throughout the entire floor plan. The Clear Lake Cottage invites you to get away and experience the "Up North Lake Life" without the hassle of long distance travel. All bedrooms are on the second floor, creating great opportunities for rest throughout your stay. Your family and friends will enjoy cooking meals in the updated kitchen or firing up the grill on the back deck. You will be sure to marvel at the west facing floor to ceiling windows in the family room that capture the majesty of every sunset. It will be tough to decide whether you watch the sunsets from the comfort of your family room, next to a fire on the lakeside patio or sitting on the end of the dock with your feet dangling in the water. The Clear Lake Cottage offers activities for all ages during all seasons! Spring, Summer & Fall offer great fishing for walleye & bass, swimming in sand/rock bottom Clear Lake, boating (pantoon available by request & fee), paddle boarding, playing lawn games, walking/biking on the nearby paved trail system, or getting a sun tan on the dock. Winter months attract the sport of ice fishing, snowmobiling on nearby trails, crafting and quilting groups, family holiday gatherings, spiritual retreats, jumping into the outdoor hot tub and building many fires in the wood burning fireplace onsite. We also have connections with a private chef who can offer in-home premium experiences during your rental. These services are a separate fee and can include tablescapes, cocktails, wine pairings, old fashioneds & cigars, as well as a variety of other experiential combinations. Your relaxation and memories await at the Clear Lake Cottage!
The neighborhood
Forest Lake is a town with great heritage and growth in recent years! We enjoy getting a cup of joe or latte at Kodiak Coffee, picking up scrumptious cinnamon rolls from Keys Cafe to eat on the dock and getting a sweet treat at Ernie's in the downtown area. There are wonderful restaurants all within 5-7 minutes if you're wanting to enjoy a meal out or grab take out! Our personal favorites are: Mallards, Venillis, & Norman Quacks. There are also fun antique shops located downtown: Vintage Junky is one that has awesome handmade items! Another relaxing option for individuals or groups is to book a day at the full service LeGrande Spa on Forest Lake, just 7 minutes away from the Clear Lake Cottage. Glazed Memories is also an incredible art studio open to the public to come glaze pottery or paint on canvas for all ages. Taylors Falls is 25 minutes away and offers great hiking, rafting, climbing and unforgettable views in all seasons! Target (with Starbucks), Walmart, Aldi, Cub, and Home Depot are also within 8 minutes of the Clear Lake Cottage if you should need to grab any extra groceries or supplies during your stay.
Clear Lake Cottage shares a long private driveway with our neighbors. This creates the perfect separation for relaxation & quiet! There is parking for a max of 8 vehicles on the driveway behind the garage. (The volleyball court, basketball hoop and kid playground are on our neighbors property, please refrain from trespassing). No RV parking is permitted due to having a narrow & shared driveway. Please observe our quiet hours listed in our house rules information (10pm-8am).
Getting around
Uber & Lyft are popular apps for getting around town if you do not have personal transportation.
The Hardwood Creek Regional Trail is within walking distance of Clear Lake Cottage. It is a paved, 9.5-mile multiple-use trail in all seasons. The trail consists of two parallel trails which run adjacent to State Highway 61, from County Road 8 (Frenchman Road) in Hugo to the Washington/Chisago County Line in Forest Lake.
The paved trail portion is for bikers, hikers, and in-line skaters, skiers and snowshoeing. In the winter, the paved trail is not groomed. The adjacent turf trail portion is for horses in the summer and snowmobiles in the winter. The Forest Lake snowmobile club grooms the turf trail in the winter.

Was hoping for a snowy winter getaway with the fam, and unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate. However, the house was still on a gorgeous lake, with a short walk into town (on a raised walking path nonetheless), and we had plenty of space to game and drink hot cocoa between hottub trips. Would certainly stay again!
We enjoyed a weekend family gathering at this wonderful lake house. It is a beautiful home, nicely decorated, cozy and clean. Perfect for a group. It has a very nice lake view and is close to shopping and restaurants. The host was wonderful and very accommodating. We had some trouble with the hot tub and the host got someone out to get it running within an hour of me contacting her. Communication was great. I would definitely stay here again!
We had lovely girls weekend. The house was cozy and had plenty of room for our group. We were close enough to the cities to go explore wineries in Stillwater and out far enough that it felt like a retreat. Hot tub was perfect for the cool fall nights! Thank you!
We were pleasantly surprised to find this home available at such short notice - and even more excited when we got to the property. The decor and amenities were so thoughtfully curated for a very comfortable stay and just a short drive outside of the city. It felt like we went up north! The owners we’re flexible and accommodating and I would highly recommend this property to anyone who is looking for R&R alone, as a family or with friends. The house can accommodate a good amount of people and kids!
We were so impressed with everything about the property! Everything was laid out so well and decorated beautifully. The sunset right out the back was amazing. Absolutely ZERO complaints, and we will be back!
Our group of 8 adults and 2 kids (4 and 16 months) had a wonderful time at this great home! We rented the pontoon boat for two of the days and that was a definite highlight of our trip. We also really enjoyed the fire pit after dinner each night. We cooked all of our meals at the house and pretty much only left to get groceries. The views and especially sunsets are stunning! I would highly recommend this home!
The property is as advertised, perfect stay !
Our stay was perfect and Rebecca was very nice and quick to respond.
What a wonderful place to have our multigenerational women’s weekend! We had 11 of us from 16-78 for the weekend! The house was immaculate, decorated so perfectly! There is not a single uncomfortable chair in the house! Everything was so cozy!! We loved the hot tub, the deck and really enjoyed the large table for doing puzzles and playing games! We had the best time! Thank you for everything!!
Big house with plenty of sleeping spots. Everything worked as it should. The kids got to use the hot tub and all the conveniences you could want like 5 minutes away. Looked like it would be a nice place to check out in the summer when it's warm out.
This was the perfect space for a quick girls weekend. The main floor living and dining room were beautiful and open and the photos didn’t do it justice. A perfect gathering space for our group.
This house was great! Very clean and comfortable with well stocked kitchen with all the basics. We especially enjoyed the real fireplace in the main living room which worked great with no sketchy flue problems. There is a nearby gas station to purchase wood. We also loved getting outside and in the hot tub where there are great views out over the lake. Remember your own pool towels. The bath towels are plentiful and nice! The four bedrooms upstairs share a full bath but since there were only 5 of us it wasn't a problem. For larger groups there is also a shower in the basement. We got takeout bagels one morning from Big City Bagels and takeout Mexican from Don Julio. The food was pretty good at both places and we were able to order online and then pickup from very friendly people. We would not hesitate to come back and I'm sure it's even better in the summer.
We love this home so dearly that we have stayed there three years in a row, as our family of 9, during a December weekend. We have time to relax together as a family and celebrate Christmas. The house is beautiful, the kitchen large and so fun to cook great meals. I especially love the large storage areas to store all our groceries. The hot tub and air hockey get used a lot, the lake is well frozen for ice fishing, and the large main floor fireplace is cozy. The dining area has a huge beautiful table. I love that the kitchen has lots of storage areas for all our groceries. . The main living space has great views, comfy furniture, and is spacious for a large group. The bedrooms are comfortable. The owners are exceptional and kind people who are so welcoming and accommodating. We are grateful to have great memories made at this home. Thank you!
Enjoyed our stay! Property was just as described. The owner was very helpful with any questions we had and changing the keypad code right away ( our information was incorrect with booking co) Plan to book again in the future!
Rebecca and her family are so gracious to rent out their beautiful property tucked away in a quiet neighborhood right on the lake. My friends and I had a fantastic weekend relaxing at the fire pit, swimming off the dock, and cozying up in the house. The property was clean, easy to access, and had a lot of useful amenities. I especially loved the sound system that can play in multiple rooms. Rebecca was responsive and easy to work with. She was such a kind host and she left us some snacks to welcome us to the home. This is not a property for loud groups or excessive drinking as the neighbors are close by and will be disturbed by excess noise. If you want a nice relaxing getaway then this property is perfect for you. We really did not have any complaints and had such a nice time. Thank you Rebecca for everything!
Property is everything you would want. Home is cozy and owner has thought of all you need for your stay. Great at communicating right away with our questions. Hot tub was so relaxing. Driving around the lake on their pontoon,, was lots of fun. Saw lots of fish jumping. Would highly definitely recommend this VRBO to everyone.
Everything was as described in the description. We had everything we needed for a relaxing weekend.
The key benefits of this property: Clean, well accommodated, charming decor, comfortable, friendly and responsive host and conveniently located close to the Twin Cities. What to expect: beautiful yard with lots of flowers, clean lake good for swimming, fishing and boating, nice hot tub, very close to long running/biking trail, grocery, restaurants and shopping within 10 minutes from home. Helpful hints: Tuesday evening Art in the Park had live music and food trucks during the summer, Kodiak coffee is a mile away along the walking trail - makes for a pleasant morning walk.
We enjoyed the view of the lake, hot tub and indoor wood burning fireplace. Thanks!
This home was absolutely stunning!! It was very clean, exactly as pictured. The beds were very comfortable, and everything was very easy to use. There were plenty of blankets, which we utilized since our Arizona blood can’t usually handle the Minnesota temps! I would absolutely stay here again, and will recommend it to family when traveling to Minnesota. Rebecca was extremely kind and responsive to our messages. She made our stay feel like we were in our own home, and that was important to us when traveling here. Stores and restaurants are only a few miles away, and the lake view can’t be beat!!
