The view from our home is mainly wooded with a large, flat, tree-filled backyard. In the fall, you can see the peaks of the mountains through the trees. The driveway leading up to the house is long and mostly flat. The home sits off the road, so there is no worry about traffic. There is enough parking for four vehicles in the driveway. The parking area is directly in front of the house, and the guest house is completely hidden in the back but shares a walkway on the deck with the home.
We offer the main and guest houses at the listed nightly rates. However, if you would like to stay in the main house but not the guest house, we can offer a discounted rate. Please contact us.
Our home has five bedrooms and four of the bedrooms have queen beds; one has a full-size bunk bed on the bottom and a twin bunk bed on top. Two full bathrooms, located on the first and second floors of the home, are split between two bedrooms. The third bath is private and is in the master bedroom. Three full baths give ample opportunities for showering after a long day at the rock slide, a fall hiking day, or after a day on the golf range. The guest house has one bedroom, one full bathroom, a kitchen, a dining area, and a great room. This is an excellent opportunity to separate the teens from the crew or offer a quiet place for the grandparents to sleep away from the rest of the activities.
We have multiple seating areas to enjoy your meals—one formal dining area, a breakfast nook that seats four, and a bar area. Our home will comfortably seat all house guests to enjoy meals together. The guest house also has a dining room with a dining table and a bar with three bar stools.
The kitchen has granite countertops with white-painted wood cabinets. The appliances are modern, primarily stainless steel, and the kitchen is well equipped with all the supplies you need to cook and enjoy time together as friends or family. If your idea of entertaining includes grilling outside, we have a gas grill on the deck ready for that family gathering!
Each bedroom has quality bed linens, a high-definition TV, and bath towels supplied.
Parking space is provided for up to four cars.
Big Canoe Resort Community offers many activities within the resort, including golf, tennis, lakes, a lake beach, canoe, and boat rentals, a rock slide for the kids, a blow-up water slide for the kids, and an indoor pool with a fitness facility as well as two outdoor pools. Please note that several outdoor activities incur a charge from the resort and are not included in the home rental price.
Very nice location that was quiet. Plenty of room to spread out. Updated interior. Would definitely stay again.
We used this for a business retreat for our non-profit board. It got the job done. The kitchen was pretty small, but everything worked. There were some quirks (like the back slider not opening). But furniture was comfortable, location was relaxing (once we found the place). And Kim (the owner) was especially responsive when we had trouble getting in the gate and with some power issues when we first arrived. She immediately answered our calls and got everything squared away. Because we were working, it would have been good to have the wi-fi code posted somewhere, but we figured it out and all was good. There is also a bird at one of the 1st floor bedroom windows that is either nesting or after something there -- because he (or she) pecks the window sill early in the morning. Overall, it was a roomy space with plenty of places for everyone to sleep in a beautiful, relaxed setting.
The house provides good sleeping space for a larger group, especially with the additional guest house. While there isn’t a view necessarily, the surrounding yard is perfect for exploring or a game of Capture the Flag. Unfortunately for our group, though, the house had a few cleanliness issues. First, there were mice. The first night, we discovered mouse droppings in the pillow cases on one of the beds. On subsequent nights, what appeared to be dog food kept appearing in the beds. We figured out it was dog food, which evidently mice hoard. Because the food kept appearing, that means the mice were putting it in the beds throughout our stay. Some of us came home with flea bites, likely acquired from the mice living in the beds. The coffee maker was filled with mold, which we thoroughly cleaned with boiling water and multiple washes. The first night we also discovered one of the beds did not have sheets. The owners were very responsive and drove sheets up to us and they did give a small refund for the issues.
First time to Big Canoe and won't be our last! The owner was very responsive and helpful. I would definitely rate her 5/5! The house was exactly as described. Clean, comfortable and relaxing. For those who haven't been to Big Canoe before, read the descriptions of other properties, the roads are very narrow, steep and winding. The driveway of this house is easy to use which is a huge plus! Due to the road conditions we opted to dine in each night and not try and brave the narrow roads in the dark, that being said the only thing I might offer to the owner is to update the kitchen items, pots and pans are old and not in the best shape, same with the knives etc, (we almost ruined Christmas dinner as we couldn't carve the roast beef!!!) Some new bath towels may be helpful as well, as the ones we had seemed at the end of their service life. All in all a great Christmas vacation and this won't be our last time visiting this area! We loved it!
Has everything you need. Nice house
Kimberly, our host, responded to our questions promptly and clearly. The property was exactly as advertised and accommodated our group of ten, ages 4 to 75, comfortably with plenty of room for privacy. The area was quiet and private with easy access to the lakes and hiking trails. Thank you, Kim! Doug & Donna
The house was ver nice. Loved the neighborhood. We saw deer in the yard every day. It was very quiet and peaceful. The owner was great to work with. Amenities are expensive but we were prepared for that. It was a great vacation
The house is beautiful as is the view. It was pretty well stocked but we did have to buy toilet paper and paper towels. I slept in the mater bedroom and the bed was comfortable. Wifi was adequate (password is on the Router in the master bedroom). Communication with the owner was very quick although most thing were not fixable for our stay. The listing when I booked, had a picture of an outside pool with no caption, which we assumed was at the house. The next picture showed an indoor pool with the caption letting you know it was at the swim club. My boys saw the pictures of the inflatables at the lake and couldn’t wait to get there. Big disappointment as the lake, inflatables, and rock slide were closed for renovation or maintenance the entire stay. The outside pool is also at the swim club and you have to pay $6/per person per day to use it. The PS3 did not work (another disappointment for the boys. The grill did not work and the grate was covered with mold (don’t know if that’s a normal thing that happens in Georgia). Nothing to do at the house so we spent quite a bit of money doing things away from the house. Amicolola Falls was beautiful, we rented a pontoon boat one day ($425ish for 4 hours), and went to Helen Water Park one day. All-in-all, we had a great vacation but if you put all your vacation money into the house thinking you have all you need there and won’t have to try to find things to do everyday, it could be disappointing.
Great family fun and experience. Loved the location and house was well equipped for our big family getaway
Home owners were extremely easy to work with and her communication with me was first class. I will definitely stay there again.
