San Diego, California
My home is located in the very nice walkable neighborhood of Golden Hill, in Sunny San Diego. Just walking to the starbucks two blocks away, your eyes will be busy with our many beautiful homes and sense of pride in our community. Or maybe a two minute walk to Luigi's Famous pizza for a slice of the Mona Lisa. The Turf Club for a Drink in the vintage throwback decor or maybe just down for some coffee at Dark Horse or Krakatowa. Just two minutes from Balboa park and our Famous Zoo.
The space
I built "The Barn" in 2010, I live on the second and third floors and the guest house is on the 1st floor, It has Granite Countertops, Two full baths, quick hot water and a breeze that shoots up from the ocean and right in the window. My yard is very tropical with a active Koi pond and pier. The temperature in my yard is usually about 5 degrees cooler than outside the gate. I have lived on the property for over twenty years and I cannot see myself anywhere else.
Guest access
You will have access to the patio, bbq and the first floor unit. There is a full gourmet Kitchen, two baths and a outdoor area for the pets to to there business.
Interaction with guests
I live right above and will be there for any of your questions. I tend to talk alot, so if you ask me a question, be prepared to take a seat.
Other things to note
As with much of San Diego located near Balboa Park we are under the flightpath the planes come and go but they usually stop by 1030. Next to Starbucks is Spevalada Meats, he's a second generation butcher and takes pride in his cuts. And for our Beer connoisseur, Krisps has a selection you will never be able to get through.
I walk everywhere, Goergiano's, Starbucks, Golden Hill Cafe, Over the freeway to Roberto's. The Bridge rail was designed by an artist and when you cross with a metal tool you can play a song that is the same in both directions. Some of San Diego's oldest mansions are just up the road and the neighborhood is safe to walk, Luigi's Pizza is my favorite, gotta try the "white girl". Or have dinner at the turf club and cook your own steak in the atmosphere of "the brat pack" with red leather throughout.
Getting around
If you have a thing for public transit, the bus is right on the corner, I would suggest Uber or Lift. Most locations are fairly close and the ride is quick and affordable. However, it is always a treat to take the trolley to Tijuana or Old town. If you rent a car, be aware we are in the city and parking can be challenging at times.
We were a group of four adults and 1 toddler. Furniture and linens/towels were in good condition. We found the beds comfortable. Pleasantly surprised to find a high chair available to use! FYI: The AC is a separate unit located in the kitchen, it is not controlled by the wall thermostat. We didn't realize this the first day/night and got quite warm. A few items did need attention: the shower doors are not attached at the bottom so they swing back and forth when being moved, also the rail on the exterior of the door does not stay attached, the tub/shower diverter in the hallway bathroom is not working properly and the water is always split between the shower head and the spigot, some windows could not be opened due to missing hardware, some damaged blinds
Enjoyed our stay and was only an 8 minute drive from downtown. Having a parking spot was very convenient and communication with the owner was great. Checking in and out was very easy too.
Stayed there two nights and it was very comfortable. Really close to many things and for us, super quick drive to Petco Park, North Park, etc… would recommend
Enjoy the location for the gongs we planned to do. Plenty of food options around the neighborhood. Place had everything we needed for the weekend.
The owner, Dan, was attentuve ti our needs and friendly to speak to. He gave an overall view of the property's history. I would recommend this property. However, the amount of greenery throught out the outside was a bit much for our taste.
Daniel is amazing and the location is perfect. Feels like a family members house. The beds are soooooo comfy too!
Spacious accommodations, and the location was perfect for our itinerary. Glad to have a designated parking spot. Would suggest a few more dishes/bowls/cups in the kitchen and fixing the bedroom door that sticks a bit. Overall a nice place to stay. We appreciated the tip to eat at Luigi's!! Also, be sure to check out Panchita's Bakery across the street. Your sweet tooth and wallet will be happy. :)
It had enough beds. A little concerned with a couple of critters. Since it hosted 5 it would be nice to have had 5 towels.
Knowing we would stay here again, truly wraps us our thoughts.
Great location as far as being close to Seaport Village Balboa Park San Diego Zoo and downtown. You will also be amazed at how busy San Diego Airport is. An excellent place to come back to at the end of a long day.
An oasis of calm in a great location with off-street parking and friendly owners. Short drive to the zoo and downtown.
So enjoyed meeting Daniel and his dogs, he was super friendly.. His place is charming, spacious and clean. Loved the outdoor sitting area with so many different kinds of plants and shade and fountains. Walking distance to restaurants and a grocery store and coffee shops and you have free parking…I’ll definitely be back
Check-in was a breeze, as was check-out. We did have an incident where someone opened the door with our code at 3:24 am Monday morning...apparently, it was the next guest. I'm thinking the code needs to be changed between guests. Comfortable place, and the location is great - Luigi's Pizza, (meatball sub & calzone) is delicious!
Great location and comfortable accommodations
we had a blast, wish we could have stayed longer, walking distance to everything! very responsive and friendly. hope to come back next year thanks
Spacious and clean property with everything you need Wonderful location, central to everything. Would definitely stay here again.
We had a great stay! My two tween daughters and I came for a girls night together and really enjoyed ourselves. The property is in a charming neighborhood with lots of character. Location is perfect, close to everything, but nestled in a quiet spot. The hosts take excellent care of the place. A+++
