What an AMAZING hidden gem! The house was seriously so cool. So many things to look at and read. The kitchen was perfect for our needs and the bedrooms were great. But honestly, the best part of this entire stay was getting to meet Laura and talk with her. What an amazing woman with some amazing stories about coming to Alaska. She is seriously the sweetest, coest person to talk to and so incredibly hospitable. We absolutely recommend staying with Laura and Martin at the Gilmore house!

Wonderful stay. The host is amazing! However, be aware the only bathroom is on the second floor if steps are an issue!

Laura and Martin have an amazing place to watch the Aurora's from and hang out just outside of Fairbanks. She shared lots of recommendations, the stash of food to begin was a lifesaver. Just a wonderful vacation spot!!!

I truly enjoyed my stay at Gilmore House. I definitely recommend it over a hotel. It was peaceful and quiet, while still close enough to drive to all of my activities. I wished I'd had more down time on my trip to just relax at the house. It was cozy and felt like you were at home. Laura and Martin were excellent hosts. Laura was very communicative from the time I'd booked until I'd checked out and she wished me safe travels. She went above and beyond with making my stay the best it could be. She even made me certificates for me crossing the Arctic Circle and for seeing the Northern Lights that Martin brought over with some salmon to try. So sweet! Personal touches that a hotel can never offer. If I'm ever visiting the Fairbanks area again, I will be booking Gilmore House.

Our stay at the Gilmore house exceeded our expectations! So safe and quiet. We felt so welcomed to their home from beginning to end. We shared great moments with the host and they always checked in on us via text message to ensure we saw the aurora ! The house itself is like a little museum! We enjoyed sledding down the little slope and swinging on their bench swing. Beautiful memories and moments. Thank you so much for the hospitality. Hopefully we make it back to visit someday!

The Gilmore House was by far the best place we stayed at out of all 5 places during this trip. Laura and Martin we pleasant and respectful! The left essentials in the like, milk, juice, eggs, coffee, bread. They also left a couple frozen pizzas in the freezer along with bacon and biscuits. There was snacks, bottled water and other things. The house was beautiful and filled with historical artifacts and items with descriptions. There were beautiful flowers located throughout the property. There are 2 decks one upstairs and off the front of the house. We enjoyed both. It was a great place to reflect after a busy vacation and enjoy chatting about our Alaskan adventure. Thank you so much, with love from Wisconsin and Tennessee.

This house was a surprise. It gave you such a warm feeling as soon as you walked in. Laura and Martin where superb hosts. The communication before we got there. Sharing places that we may want to see to after we arrived with helping to spot the northern lights. This little house was an adventure all its own with the many things they used to decorate. We went in winter, they had sleds and snow shoes for you to use. We had the very best time and alot was due to staying at gilmore house. It's beautiful. If you want an alaskan experience you have to start it with Gilmore House.

Our stay was wonderful, Martin & Laura were extremely accommodating and communicated well. We stayed for 9 nights while we sold our Fairbanks home and they were very kind and helpful while we had a lot going on. The house is older and has a great Fairbanks/cabin vibe. The house was very cute and comfortable and had everything we needed (including fans!)

Cute, simple, rustic Alaskan cottage just outside of town enough to soak in that Alaskan feel but close enough to be a good location for taking in all of the things Fairbanks offers. Ohh and the view into the valley below is fantastic! Martin and Laura are wonderful hosts and offer any help you need in planning, places to visit, things to do, etc! They even included some fresh eggs, bacon, and snacks to start the trip off right! On this trip, we were able to see eagles, moose, caribou, fox, a beaver and a porcupine while in the area. Also, I must mention if you’re the pioneering spirit, there is a public access creek only minutes away from Gilmore House to try your hand at gold panning! We didn't get rich but those colors in the pan were pretty exciting to see!Anyone wanting to have that classic alaskan stay with beautiful views, fresh air, and no traffic to simply relax, you should give this place a look!

This property is all around excellent! Location is perfect, the hosts are beyond wonderful and this is a very cozy place. We would definitely stay here again if we revisit Fairbanks.By the way, we saw the Northern Lights right from the house EVERY NIGHT!

Our stay at Gilmore House in Fairbanks was fantastic. Laura and Martin were exceptional hosts. Before we arrived Laura sent many links to restaurants, museums, events, and activities we may be interested in and all of them were terrific. They were near by if we needed anything but also respectful of guests privacy. We got caught short of supplies by the weather but they had some food on hand at the house that made that situation not an issue. They planned ahead when we didn't. The house itself was like a mini museum with artifacts and numerous Alaska historical pieces. We had a wonderful time in Fairbanks and Martin and Laura helped make that all possible.Dave and Anne

From the start of our vacation communication with the host was exceptional. We were not guessing when we arrived on the process to check in Directions were spot on and we arrived with ease even in the dark. They provided snacks for us which came in hand when we arrive late and my kids were hungry. The house is clean and warm The host were helpful when planning tours or if I had questions and gave wake up calls when the auroras were out. We were grateful and thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Gilmore house and Fairbanks in general.

Laura and Martin were amazing hosts! The cabin is cozy and warm. If you are going for the Northern Lights, this cabin is the perfect spot. Close enough to the city for touristing during the day and far enough in the hills to get out of the ice fog and watch the Northern Lights dance at night. Highly recommend this rental!

The host went above and beyond in every capacity. Breakfast food, snacks and drinks were waiting for us when we arrived at midnight. She left lights on for us and had home toasty. Kitchen was fully stocked, towels plentiful and beds super comfortable.

The communication was outstanding. Laura had many suggestions and recommendations. We could tell that it was important to her that we enjoyed our time in Fairbanks.

The house was clean and warm. It was cozy with large windows to watch the birds and squirrels on the front porch or enjoy the peacefulness of the forest. It had the feeling of coming home. Laura and Martin thought of everything! The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need to need to cook a meal. They even had everything to make breakfast. The beds were comfortable with flannel sheets and extra blankets if needed. The cabin was filled with historical photographs and books that added interest. The location was perfect and easy to find. The snow covered trees made it magical! The second story balcony was perfect for Aurora viewing!

Perfect. Laura thought of every amenity and the snacks/food were great as was the condiment section in the frig (mustard, mayo, butter!) We only saw the lights one night and Laura alerted us to them. The bed was comfy, and the living area was great for hanging out in and watching the birds and squirrels at the feeder.

We decided to celebrate our 25th anniversary in AK to see the Northern Lights. This was our second but longest stay. What a wonderful location! Great hostess! After asking about GF restaurants, she provided some GF items for our “starter kit”. It was wonderful and much appreciated. She asked if we wanted to be informed of when the Northern lights were out (which was our very last night there) and alerted us. The view from the upstairs deck was amazing and super convenient. So peaceful and quiet. We even saw a mother moose and her 2 calves eating leaves and grass in the front and side of the house!

Such a lovely little house! Laura and Martin are extraordinary hosts! We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary here hoping to see the Northern Lights. Sadly, we ran into cloudy skies, but had a wonderful time nevertheless. We’ll definitely be back!

We absolutely loved our stay at Gilmore house. The house offered all the comforts of home along with Alaskan artifacts that made you feel the history of the land. There is a quiet beauty and calmness that envelops you. It is a rare treasure in today's rush, rush world. Laura went above and beyond in ensuring our stay was everything we wanted it to be. The fridge was full of breakfast foods, pizza in the freezer, snacks on the counter- we have never felt more welcome at a VRBO. Laura even provided us suggestions of things we could do locally. You feel truly cared for at the Gilmore House. Highly recommend!!! 5 star plus

Experience couldn't be beat. Host were exceptional. Went above and beyond what we expected. House had so many unique artifacts and antiques. Landscaping was beautiful with all the flowers. Special dietary needs were met. Loved the starter food package they provided. Rooms were super nice. They also provided information about things to do and see in the Fairbanks area. Definitely recommend Gilmore House for the ultimate Alaskan stay.

Laura and Martin have a wonderful get-away. Breakfast, coffee, water and snacks await you upon arrival. The house is clean and the decor provides real Alaskan vibe. I stayed mid-July and the deck and flowers were peaceful and inviting. As hosts,, they are friendly and attentive. I would recommend anyone to their lovely Gilmore house.

Our stay at the Gilmore House was comfortable and relaxing. The owners have put a lot of thought into making their rental everything a family would need. The supplies for breakfast after a long late night flight was appreciated so much. The house is decorated with many antiques and artifacts of Alaska. Reading materials on Alaska history along with many brochures of places to visit were also provided. We really enjoyed our mornings on the deck, reading with a cup of coffee, surrounded by beautiful flowers. The bedrooms were very comfortable and felt like home. Laura was very quick to respond to any questions and provided recommendations along with keeping us informed when wildfires started in the area. We hope to return and will definitely recommend the Gilmore House to anyone visiting Fairbanks.

Wonderful place amazing host just all around great experience

Where to begin…Laura and Martin were just the best! Laura went out of her way to find my favorite coffee creamer from the lower 48! That made for the perfect cup of coffee on the perfect first Alaska morning on the perfect front porch! We enjoyed our view from the living room and master bedroom! We were so thankful for the comfy beds and hot showers. My family was so thankful for the snacks and breakfast items provided! We had no idea what to expect planning our first Alaskan vacation from 4000 miles away! So the 5 star review on The Gilmore House gave us a level of comfort! It did not disappoint! It was the perfect cabin for our adventure! We were able to get from site to site easily and parking and access were easy! Laura provided many recommendation on restaurants and attractions prior to our arrival. We did many, and they were all great! We are so thankful for our visit here and all that Laura did to make it perfect! Not sure when or if we would return to Fairbanks, but this would be our first choice! It should definitely your first choice too!

Laura and Martin went above and beyond to make The Gilmore House feel like home away from home. We all agreed that this was our favorite stop on our Alaska tour. The little and big details did not go unnoticed. From the Welcome Starter Snacks, frozen pizzas and breakfast items were so appreciated!! Kitchen had everything you need to make meal prep easy. Beds were super comfy and everything was impeccably clean. Loved all the history and antiques that were throughout the house. Easy to follow directions to the house and great communication before and during our stay. Even left something behind and Laura said she would mail it to us! Book the Gilmore House and you will not be disappointed! Would love to stay again if we find ourselves in Alaska again some day!

Great communication with the host. Laura offered recommendations for activities and restaurants prior to our visit. The home is super cute and was comfortable for 4 adults. I enjoyed all of the old pictures and antiques. Location was very convenient for all of our activities. I would definitely recommend and would stay again. I appreciated the thoughtfulness of snacks and breakfast items that were available to us as our flight arrived in the middle of the night.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Laura and Martin are amazing. Laura communicated frequently to ensure we had everything we need and they went out of their way help us out for activities we were planning after our stay. The provisions for breakfast were great. The view of the aurora from the porch was amazing. We can't recommend this home enough.

Laura was so kind, responsive, and caring! From meeting us at the airport so we could follow her back to our place, to stocking the house with food and snacks, to answering all out question's- she was amazing! Best host ever! Thank you for pre ious memories!!!!

Laura went out of her way to make our stay superb. My sisters and I spent 5 days and loved every minute of it. Laura provided lots of information about the area to help make our stay the best it could be. I would recommend you stay here.

I cannot begin to grasp how incredible of a stay I had here at Laura’s home. My partner and I had a bucket list dream to see the Northern Lights. We had decided Fairbanks would be a good spot. From booking our stay, Laura provided us with tips and recommendations for anything from restaurants, things to do, etc. All her tips were spot on and excellent. I have stayed in many a VRBO and Laura is the best host I’ve ever had. She offered to pick us up at the airport as needed, ensured our fridge was stocked with a lovely breakfast starter kit, had a valentines gift and flowers waiting for us on the counter, and alerted us (upon request) when the Northern Lights were visible! It is so very clear that Laura is a passionate host and cares deeply about her home and the guests who stay there. The home itself is cozy in all the right ways. Everything I could possibly need was already there. I was cooking and realized I needed butter, she had it there. I caught a cold and needed tissues, she had plenty. We needed sandals to go to the local hot springs. She has several pairs. Worried about dehydration? She’s got a massive jug of water ready to go for you. Wanting to bundle up? There’s a fuzzy blanket waiting for you on the sofa. Everything was wonderful. I arrived in Fairbanks not sure if I’d ever want to come back, and I leave Fairbanks wishing to come back quickly, at the very least to visit Laura and her lovely home.

The house is fantastic decorated with one of a kind items from Alaska. Laura and Martin are the most amazing hosts ever and were always available for questions. They had groceries for us at our arrival. We saw the northern lights right from the house! The house was always warm and cozy, even when it was beyond freezing outside. For potential future guests - the stairs inside are kind of steep and narrow. They didn’t bother us at all, but if you have mobility concerns, they might be a challenge. We can’t wait to return to this property and reunite with our fantastic hosts!!Thank you Laura and Martin!

Our family had an unforgettable stay at Gilmore House! Visiting Fairbanks after Christmas and ringing in the New Year here was truly magical.This trip was all about seeing the Aurora Borealis for the first time, and thanks to Laura's thoughtful texts when the lights appeared, we got to experience their breathtaking beauty. Midnight wake-ups were completely worth it!We also loved exploring the area - dog sledding, ice fishing, visiting the Santa Claus House, and soaking in Chena Hot Springs (frozen hair and all!) were highlights for everyone. The sledding slope nearby and playing in the snow made for hours of fun, despite the frigid temperatures.Ringing in the New Year at the cabin was extra special. The welcome basket with New Year goodies made it a night to remember. We enjoyed celebrating with fireworks (and Laura) at midnight! :)The cabin was warm, cozy, and had almost everything we needed. We especially loved the beautiful sunrises and sunsets right from the windows. Laura, your kindness and hospitality - along with the personal touches - made our stay feel so special.Thank you for an incredible Alaska adventure!

We came on a lark in hopes of seeing northern lights. We discovered an amazing place, with hands down the very best hosts (and humans) you could even imagine. The house is perfect. Laura and Martin are incredibly kind and thoughtful. They took care of everything we could have imagined, called and texted when the lights came out and gave amazing recommendations for things to do in the area. We can’t wait to come back. ❤️

Laura and Martin were great hosts! They made us feel like family and not just guests. Laura picked us up at the airport, and dropped us off to get our car and brought our bags to the house so we could enjoy our day in Fairbanks! There was a food “starter” kit there for us when we arrived and she offered us tips on places to go eat, visit and see the Northern Lights! She even offered to wake us if the Northern lights came out! The Gilmore house itself is beautiful clean and has a comfy feeling to it. The views were breathtaking! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. A group of my family from the midwest (IL, KY and TN) traveled to Fairbanks for a vacation. We chose Sept to try to see the Northern Lights while there. Our host was extremely helpful both in planning the trip while we were there. Laura is amazing and we loved the beautiful and well decorated house where we could see the Aurora from our lodging. Strongly recommend it.
