Sparta, Georgia
Breathtaking sunsets, big water views, wonderful fishing off dock or take kayak/canoe to deeper water. Bring your own boat to pull up to dock or use the second boat slip. Personal two slip covered dock with open dock area. Enjoy lying in the sun or relaxing in the shade. Evening brings endless unobstructed star viewing and roasting marshmallows on open fire pit. Goat Island is only a paddle away, offering the younger kids independent exploration time. Bring your own boat or jet ski to expand your exploration of Georgia's lake with the most shoreline. Located 12 nautical miles to upper dam separating Lake Oconee from Lake Sinclair and approximately 6 miles to the lower dam, separating Lake Sinclair from the Oconee River. Three casual, on the lake restaurant options are approximately an 8-15 minute boat ride (available seasonally). The largest marina, Sinclair Marina, is an easy 5-8 minutes by boat. Though remote, a drive into downtown Milledgville for a variety of shopping, dining and historic exploration is only approximately 20-30 minutes. Book a historic trolly tour, see Georgia's first governors mansion, tour historic and reportedly haunted Cemetery Hill. Don't forget to set foot on the GCSU, Georgia College and State University, campus. Georgia's only liberal arts college and only one of 29 publicly funded liberal arts colleges in the nation.
Just as promised. No one around. Occasional boaters, kayakers. Goat island is a fun place to explore with the only way to get there being by boat, kayak or canoe. Several kayaks and canoes to choose from. Could have put a boat or jet ski in but it was perfect to just use kayak/canoes on property. We took all of our food and oved just cooking and enjoying food and wine on dock. Not much close by as for grocery or restaurants. Even though we did pass one restaurant that was really close but looked seasonal. Glad just to arrive and stay. Very quiet and low key. Cottage is so cute, comfortable with all the amenities that one needs. Great view from cottage. Had Roku with Netflix and amazon. Lots of movies at house. Amazing night time star gazing! Campfire was perfect for sipping a hot totty. We had to build the fire—firewood was at house, but did have to carry to fire pit area. Well worth it when we roasted marshmallows and told stories by fire and directly by lake.
