Our family of 7, to include two children and two dogs, absolutely LOVED staying here. We came for the LEAF festival and enjoyed all that Black Mountain had to offer, including Lake Tomahawk (a short drive or nice walk down the hill), restaurants in the lovely Black Mountain town, close to Asheville, yet far enough that you don't know it's there if you don't want to. Beds were cozy and wonderful, the kitchen was a joy to cook in, the tire swing and fire pit in the back yard made it just like home. Would absolutely stay again.
The hosts went out of their way to accommodate me when I had an urgent need to find a last-minute, dog-friendly house. (A different Vrbo rental fell through.) They rapidly replied to all my communications. The house was great, with a big yard to walk the dogs around in. I was nervous about the possibility of loose dogs, which could be a problem for my dogs, but I never saw any loose dogs; I just heard a lot of barking.
Our family of 6 stayed here to celebrate an early Christmas (we drove up from south FL and our oldest two drove down from north VA). There was room for everyone to have their private space as well as for us all to gather! We didn’t utilize the outdoor areas (coming from FL it was kinda chilly for us in December), but we were close to lots of things to do - indoors and outdoors! We took a 30 minute drive to Chimney Rock State Park, a 30 min drive to Biltmore, a drive about 25 mins into Asheville to look around and we spent most of our time enjoying Black Mountain! So many adorable shops and places to get good food - and we even went to an open mic night at White Horse Black Mountain (very fun)! The property itself is stocked. The kitchen has many things: 2 slow cookers, a plethora of pots and pans and bakeware, an electric mixer, many mixing/serving/storage containers, a handheld juicer, USEABLE knives (I’ve been to some places where the knives were kind of dangerously dull), measuring cups/spoons, a toaster, a toaster oven, a food processor. There is surely more, but I don’t recall as we didn’t used everything. There are extra toiletries (of which most, I greatly appreciated, were of a more natural variety - and the laundry detergent was Free & Clear), extra blankets, extra towels, a “junk drawer”, sleep masks (there aren’t room darkening curtains), ear plugs, a kitchen pantry that seems to have a “pass it on” mentality (like if you buy it but don’t use it, leave it for the next - flour, sugar, oil, seasonings, Ramen, pancake mix, syrup, etc). And we were left a lovely gift basket that really helped with getting nourishment into us that first morning! Communication was fast and fantastic. One thing to note for sensitive folks: there is a wood-burning stove. You can smell it. It isn’t the main source of heat (baseboard heaters), but I wanted note it. My husband loved it and thought it added to the mountain ambiance. :) The home has good wifi - kids were gaming and we were streaming TV (with others browsing the internet). And there are quite a few streaming services already installed on the tv (with logins already set up to go). We enjoyed the place a lot. :). Thanks Guys!
We had the best time at this house. It is crazy close to downtown Black Mountain, which was a perfectly-sized town for great walking around, browsing, grocery shopping (the Ingle's was awesome) and eating. Ashville was also super accessible, although we only went once because we were so comfortable/happy in Black Mountain. The house itself is super comfortable. The kitchen has EVERYTHING you need, and I am a pretty competent home cook. The beds were very compfy, the house nice and warm, the welcome basket super thoughtful, and the pantry/kitchen well stocked with spices and staples (although we have done a bunch of rentals and now bring our own). Outside, the fire pit, tire swing, and hammock were awesome as well, and since the weather was so nice, we spend two evenings out there. The ONLY negative thing wasn't really negative for us, but i'll mention it is just in case it would bother you. There are a considerable number of poultry in the area, and the roosters made their presence known at certain times of the morning/evening. This didn't bother us at all, as it wasn't very loud and we are all pretty rural in our roots and used to those sounds. But if you are a super light sleeper, you might hear them. That said, Laura kindly had a jar of disposable ear plugs (the kind people wear at concerts) in the bathroom! Other than that one super small thing, this place is absolutely perfect, and Laura was the PERFECT host. We could not have felt more taken care of!!!!!
We had a good time with plenty of room. Home was clean and had everything you need. We had our fur babies with us and this home was great. Secluded enough that if our doggies barked it didnt bother neighboors.
We had a lovely time staying at Laura and Robert's property in Black Mountain. The location was perfect for a mountain trip, located close to town and day trips to others. The house itself was clean, cozy, and spacious and the hosts were great. Everything was as advertised and we look forward to revisiting in the future. Thanks so much!
very nice
We enjoyed our stay at the mountain retreat. The house is in a great location - easy access to downtown, Asheville, and Montreat (there's a wonderful playground there if you're traveling with kids!). The kitchen is well stocked - we prepared Thanksgiving dinner there & were pleased to find a nice set of serving & baking dishes. The yard has a nice outdoor gathering space, too. We will definitely see if this house is available next time we're in the area!
