Our guests are completely independent. We welcome them and strive to make their stay and local experience memorable and comfortable. We respect their privacy, as we expect them to respect ours.
We live in an area that is highly populated by artists and we love having many artists as neighbors.
We are in the countryside of historic St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. We are the perfect outpost - a cultural crossroad - between Austin/Houston/Dallas/Nashville/Memphis and New Orleans. The Folk Art Honky Tonk is set way back off a small country highway and surrounded by farmland, so it is often very quiet - except for the birds, the occasional cow bellow, or farm equipment at work.
We have many artists come up from New Orleans to get away and experience rural Acadiana and its inspiring creative energy.
We will let our guests express their experiences:
"We have been raving about our stay since we left. They immediately gave us fantastic selections for places to go in the area. They made sure we were happy with our accommodations. They kept in contact while giving us all the privacy we needed."
"Jim and Christy are the most wonderful hosts. They are truly ambassadors of the area."
"Jim and Christy are warm, welcoming, and love having people over. Their house gorgeous like out of a movie."
"Truly why we love vacation rentals. Locals who show their lives and make you a part of it. One of those never to forget travel experiences. Definitely go and get a deep dive Louisiana experience!"
"We like to think vacation rentals were created for these kind of accommodations. The location is wonderful but the best part is the hosts. Jim and Christy are amazing people who provide their wary travelers with everything they could hope for. We can advise you this: Go! You will forever remember the experience!"
"Jim and Christy are absolute gems. As hosts, they do everything you can ask for and more - they provide you with the true South Louisiana experience. Regardless of if you're staying in the house, the barn, or the Whirlybird, you're in for a treat."
"Wonderful outpost to explore the best of Cajun land, or simply rest at home and take in peace and quiet in an inspired and thoughtfully created residence."
"To say that Jim and Christy are wonderful people would be an understatement. Their property is beautiful and you can tell they really care about preserving the houses and land."
"Jim and Christy are at the core of the local community and are very generous in sharing their time and experiences. You really couldn't hope for better hosts!"
"The house and the grounds are magical."
Jim was very accomodating. We were there for business. Nice, quiet place to end a long day.
It was a pleasure staying at the Honky Tonk. I love a good antique shop, and this place had an eclectic abundance of cool stuff to look at! We love music, and having our very own venue complete with fiddle, guitars, drum set and piano and dance floor was a hoot! My only problem was I should have read the listing a little better, my bad! I thought there were two bedrooms IN the house, I didn't expect the camper. With one of our party being 6 foot 4in tall, there's no way he could have fit. We ended up taking the matress from the camper and putting it on the dance floor...which worked out great. I got confused between the converted barn listing and the Honky Tonk listing....both have the same photo with the copper pig. Somehow, I thought we were staying in the barn and that all my guests would have their own bed. Again, my bad for not reading the fine print. Jim was fabulous, and we had a really great time! I would definitely stay again, now that I know what's what!
Super fun and quirky! The nearest town of Sunset, Louisiana has wonderful antique stores. The grocery store even has sushi! Easy drive to Avery Island, Lafayette, Breaux Bridge and Washington. The setting is serene and relaxing. The owners are amazing! My only caution is for those with Fibromyalgia, RA or other chronic pain conditions, the bed is very firm, as are the cots. If you need a soft mattress bring somethingto pad them. I loved my stay and want to return. I can't describe how energizing it is to stay in this space. Your creativity will thank you.
