Property Truths
Although a favorite of most guests, this property might not be a fit for demanding travelers. It's professionally cleaned, laundry is washed at 140°, we have the top fiber-optic cable available in the area, it has a generator, and our heating system is under 10yrs old and regularly serviced. However, it's also a historic house in a rural setting with rooms the caliber of the “popular” historic Equinox Hotel in Manchester. The furnishings are primarily antique and antiques are old. The floors creek and the windows can be hard to open. The kitchen dining area can feel cramped for groups greater than 10. The cable and Wi-Fi as mentioned, are the best in the area, but the best in this area is not as good as where you come from. If what I'm telling you sounds charming, and most guests do find it charming, then I'm sure you will love this house.

Location
A favorite with initiated travelers and truly Vermont at its best! Perfectly located in the shire of Weston with grazing cows on one side and the West River on the other. You get amazing star gazing, mineral water straight from the faucet into your coffee tea or bath and no stoplights, but with high-speed WIFI, paved roads, cell-service, a grocer, a liquor store, and incredible shopping skiing and dining. Ski five top mountains 10-miles to Okemo, 8-miles to Magic, 11-miles to Bromley, 18-miles to Stratton, and 13-miles to both VAST and Appalachian Trail. Shop at the world famous original Vermont Country Store less than 1-mile away or 40 Manchester retailers just 14 miles away. Eat at four Michelin quality restaurants and find 12 more family-friendly eats within 10 miles. Fly-fishing, hiking, skiing, biking trails, theatre, and even Benedictine Monks at Weston Priory are also nearby! Grounds feature perennials, apple trees, stone walls, swimming pool, an old barn, and scenic vistas at every turn. Just a short walk to the Weston Theatre Company and the original Vermont Country Store.

History
The Apple Knoll was built in 1830 and first used as a sheep farm. It's a Georgian style timber frame house with views of the West River, shire of Weston, and Mounts Tabor Mansfield and Equinox. In the year built, Merino wool prices spiked to 50 cents a pound and VT experienced the “Great Torrent”, the worst flooding in a century. Over the next 30 years Vermont saw its first railroad, spread of the abolitionist movement, a booming economy first in agriculture then forestry mining and manufacturing, and outbreak of the Civil War.

8 ladies stayed at this lovely antique home. The kitchen was modern and well stocked. The original plan was to eat dinner out but the kitchen and outdoor grills provided just the right setting to cook in…and our we glad we did ! Lots of games, laughter and merriment were had at the kitchen table!! Plenty of privacy with each room having its own bath. Close to everything…we golfed at the EQUINOX and FOX RUN. Great choice for our group! Host was easy to work with! We will be back!

Everyone enjoyed their stay. However, we would like to make a few recommendations. It is an older property which has many eclectic and interesting features. It would be beneficial if the growth around the pool area was cleared away to allow for more sunlight for more warmth and less debris in the pool. We also would recommend a complete banister from the first to second floors to make it more secure for older people to go up and down the stairs. Also would recommend grab bars in all the tubs and showers. We were very happy with all the people we met who were at the house when we visited in advance. Management was very quick to answer any concerns that we had. Another plus is that it is pet friendly. It was a wonderful and unique experience.

A group of 12 stayed at the property for a week. We used all eight of the sleeping spaces. The kitchen, outdoor spaces and bathrooms were the best part of the stay. The kitchen allowed us to easily cook large meals. However, it is clear that many updates, (including the screen door, putting screens in all the windows) need fixing. Also, the inn could use a deep cleaning. Tip for future guests that could be staying more then a couple of nights, bring your own paper towels, toilet paper and trash bags. There is not extra at the inn. We were told we'd get reimbursed for the cost, but no reimbursement occurred. For the price we paid we were happy with the week.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We loved the house. There was plenty of room for 8 of us. Our favorite part was sitting by the fire looking at millions of stars in the dark sky.
