Dancing Bear Lodge is a cabin located in Roseland, VA. It is just over 2,000 square feet, which makes it a spacious size for hosting larger groups of up to 10 people. If you are looking for an off the grid experience on 38 acres with a spectacular mountain view, this place is for you! The property is a nice balance of seclusion while still having the comfort of modern amenities and prime location. You will be close to lots of wonderful wineries, cideries, breweries, distilleries (Nelson 151), and outdoor adventure activities! We are about 20 minutes away from the notable Wintergreen Resort, with exciting winter skiing and tubing to enjoy.

The property has some very unique features, including a fireplace built with stones from the old cobblestone streets of Norfolk. In addition, the wood floors in the main living area and other wood features throughout the property are crafted from timber harvested and milled on site. Wildlife abounds on the property - you very well may spot deer, bear, cardinals, and more!

A project we want to embark on (hopefully soon!) is carving out trails for our guests to enjoy to showcase evidence of old chestnut logging trails from the 1800s, beautiful rock formations, and a fresh water spring. We do currently have logging trails from a job completed at the end of 2022, however, the trails are not maintained at this time. Explore at your own risk.

The master bedroom has a queen sized bed and full en suite bathroom (shower/tub). The master bedroom shares a hallway with 2 other bedrooms (queen and king) and the second full bath (shower/tub). The other (half) bath is on the opposite end of the house, near the kitchen and fourth bedroom (queen).

The details...
-Spectacular mountain view
-WiFi (satellite), brought to you by Starlink
-Wood burning fireplace
-Roku streaming in living room via TCL Roku TV (basic streaming available; bring your own passwords for Netflix, Hulu, etc)
-Board games
-Fully equipped kitchen (we have a standard coffee pot in addition to a Keurig)
-Washer, dryer, dishwasher
-3 queen beds, 1 king bed, 1 sleeper sofa
-Plenty of parking

Other things to note...
*We have a landscaper that comes periodically to do outdoor landscape maintenance. We do our best to try to coordinate this at times guests are not at the property, however, it doesn't always work out that way.
*We have a firepit, fireplace, and charcoal barbecue for guests to enjoy. Firewood and charcoal are not provided at this time.
*We welcome families with small children! The property is not baby proofed (please note the indoor fireplace, outdoor firepit, and small sets of outdoor stairs). Please monitor your children at all times!
*Power outages do happen on the mountain. When they do, please let us know so that we can ensure that the electric company has been notified.
*With being located more remotely, please expect spotty cell/internet reception when getting close to the property, and download directions/guidebook prior to departure.
*Though drivers have made it up the mountain without AWD/4x4, we do recommend a well-equipped vehicle to make it up the mountain. It's nothing treacherous, but those mountain views come at the cost of driving through some steep spots! We especially would recommend AWD/4x4 in inclement weather.

The owner was extremely nice. She responded to email and questions in a very timely manner. The house is spotless. Every room in the house is nicely decorated, cozy, and spacious. The kitchen has all the amenities you could need or desire. There is also a washer and dryer if you should need one. The pillows and beds were very comfortable. You instantly feel like you’re away from the hustle and bustle of life, and in a cozy, remote getaway. The outside stringed lights and a bit of sparkle to the evening. The fire pit and surrounding chairs are inviting. And there is also a grill on the wrap around deck. The view is just as pictured, Beautiful! The owner makes your stay welcoming and effortless. I am hoping to return in the future for a longer stay. Thank you Katie!

This was the second visit to this house. My family and I love this place. It is great for children and adults. There are minimal steps to get into the house making it very accessible for anyone with walking issues. There is a flat area which is a great place for children to play. Inside the house offers everything you need and is immaculate. The kitchen is spacious and well stocked allowing for multiple chefs. Corresponding with the owners was easy and all questions answered quickly. I would highly recommend this house to anyone who wants to visit the mountains. I know my family and I would not even think about renting another house over this one. It is perfect for us.

Mountain retreat! We had a family trip which included children and the property was absolutely beautiful. The house was well maintained and clean and spacious. The views of the mountains as well as the porch rocking chairs and fire ring made for many options on how to spend your time. Listing did mention 4 wheel drive in rainy or winter season, I would just reiterate it is needed regardless of season as it is a gravel road at the end when you reach the cabin.

Myself and 6 friends went to stay at this property and we never wanted to leave. The views are stunning, the fire pit outside was an absolute staple of our visit (bring more firewood than you think you'll need, it goes fast!), we spent so much time out there watching the sunset, then the lightning bugs, then the stars. Every 5 minutes the scene changes and becomes more gorgeous. The bird watched in our group were super satisfied with the species, plenty of beautiful birds to observe! The quietness, with far off creek sounds was an added bonus. The house was wonderfully cozy, the beds were so comfy! The kitchen was SO well equipped; pots, pans, utensils of various shapes and sizes, crockpot, storage containers, mixing bowls, everything you could need. It was so helpful to have a well stocked kitchen. The towels were fluffy and clean, the bathrooms were clean and well cared for (bring your own shower products). As a final note, bring bug spray and tick repellent! Lots of crawlers around and some are not for the faint of heart (I can't blame the bugs, it's a beautiful place to live!)

Our group of 7 (plus toddlers plus a dog) had the absolute best weekend here. The house couldn't be more perfect for a group like this with plenty of space to hang out, eat together, cook together without being cramped, have a fire pit, grill, relax on the porch with the most gorgeous view, we all slept great on comfy beds, the wifi was FAST enough for wfh and you can see the Milky Way at night (if you come around a new moon). There's also a great hike/bike trail just .5 mile up the road at the state forest and it's like 10 minutes to Devil's Backbone and everything you could need. And the owners were amazing- they have a guidebook with every detail you could want to know and were super communicative and kind. We're already talking about making this our annual spot. The only thing I would flag is they mean it when they suggest AWD. A friend had to park at the bottom of the hill (a 15 yard walk up the hill - not a big deal!) but all the Subarus made it up fine. A regular sedan is not making it.

We loved our stay! House was lovely and views were amazing. Very peaceful! We really enjoyed the fireplace since the weather was bad. It was close to wineries, distilleries and restaurants. Katie, our host, was so responsive from booking to departing. You get a Guide Book which is so helpful. We would definitely return. Loved it!

My family, son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter and great grandson stayed for three nights at Dancing Bear. We had a wonderful time. The house was even better than it showed in the listing. It was clean and had everything we needed. Views were beautiful. We would stay there again.

this cabin is beautiful. The home is comfortable and welcoming, the hosts are very easy to reach and get back to you immediately. They also provide you with a lot of very useful information about the area. The cabin is secluded- it had rain a lot prior to our arrival so having four wheel drive vehicles was very helpful. The views are absolutely stunning and the fire pit was our favorite spot to be. We highly recommend this house and look forward to staying here again!!
