****Charming country Victorian, family friendly, pool table, HDTV and garden.****
The property is an original log cabin, built in 1887, at it's bones as evidenced by the nearly twelve inch deep doorways in the main part of the house. It was then enlarged and remodeled into a Victorian by the subsequent owners in late 1890's and beyond. The home has a wood fireplace, gas fireplace, pool table, library, dining room and breakfast area; along with a greenhouse room filled with greenery. The master bedroom has a wonderful alcove perfect for a relaxing time out. There is a big screen TV, WiFi and surround sound. The first floor bath has recently been completely remodeled and has a soaking tub.
TRAINING SEASON: The house is at Hermosa, 8 miles North of Durango along scenic County Road 203 and is within 1/2 mile from the Ironhorse Classic race course! An enclosed yard for privacy, plenty of space to spread out or set up a work tent. In addition, to a covered porch.
Little Known Train access!: Just six miles down the road, there is a train stop. Save time and avoid going to town to board the train! Reserve your tickets and tell them you want to go from Rockwood. The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is a world famous train trip and well worth checking out!
Motorcycle Friendly for Rally Week!: The location perfect for setting out on mountain tours as we are North of Durango on scenic Hwy 550.
House had character. Yard was beautiful. I liked being a bit out of town. My kids put down their phones and learned how to play pool and darts.
House is as advertised 1800's very old..It is charming and well stocked with pots pans plates etc.. The house, being very old is very compartmentalized with small rooms that have to much furniture making it difficult to be all in one room to relax. Main room has a pull out couch, recliner and chaise lounge, window seat, coat rack and fireplace with the TV in a small room. It is cramped. Beds are nearly un-sleep-able, hard and small.. For being pet friendly there is no fenced area for your pets even though it appears that way in the pictures. Owner has many pet rules so make sure about these before you book. She was very nice about her rules just make sure they work for your needs. There is a 1/2 bath upstairs and a full bath down with no bedrooms downstairs. The full bath has a sunken 3/4 tub (it is not a full bathtub).. Street parking only, outside the gate. Do not expect a super modern house here. It is charming and overall not a bad place to stay. I would not recommend staying here unless owner replaced all mattresses with new comfortable mattresses.
Very nice house with lots of room. Enjoyed the pool table and sitting by the fireplace watching TV. Thank you Susie for a great experience.
Susie made the entire process a breeze. She was very professional and pleasant. We had a fantastic ski trip and I will definitely return.
Nice location on quiet country road; services nearby. Grounds could use maintenance (overgrown). Master BR needs new mattress; coffee maker on last leg; bathroom soap supplies need replenishing along with kitchen paper towels. Otherwise, a nice week's stay in a lovely area.
This house was exactly what we were looking for. We had nine people in 3 families celebrating the completion of the Colorado Trail via mtn. bike by the guys. There was plenty of space to spread out, it's very spacious and the pictures do not due it justice. Very charming 126 yr old house. As with all old houses, everything wasn't perfect which made it all the better. Spent most of our time out in the lovely gardens, breakfast, dinner, and smores on the fire. This was when there wasn't a lively darts or pool tournament going on! Entertaining for adults and teenagers with plenty of running room for the younger set. Just down the road from Trimble Hot Springs and plenty close enough to Durango to head into town too with great road biking right outside the door. Even with our large group, the bathroom set-up was fine as the continuous hot water shower was plenty. This was a wonderful choice for our gathering and Susie could not have been more accomodating!
Our stay at this retreat was awesome! This house has a lot of charm and cozy features about it. We cooked a full Thanksgiving dinner and shared our time as a family in the formal dining room, it was great! There was even a piano in the dining room which my daughter loved to play. In the study was a full size pool table and a dart board along with tons of great books & board games to consider to relax with. The yard is large enought to play in and the house is close enough to stores, resturants, and Durango that it was easy to get anything you may need. My family would like to make this rental a normal tradition for our holidays away. Brent- from Phoenix
Just spent a wonderful week at the rest. It was restful just like it says. The house was full of character and charm. I loved it! The library was stocked with an amazing selection and my son got to beat me at pool a few times. The river was a lovely walk down a country lane and town was a short drive. I will be booking this again when I return to Durango. Thank you Susie for providing an actual home away from home. Warm Regards, Maureen from Dingle, County Kerry Ireland
