Your hosts Ed and Sherri live locally nearby and have many years of experience traveling and adventuring all over this island, and love to share this knowledge with fellow explorers. We even have a few secret spots so don't hesitate to inquire. The property gets it's name from the sculptural rock formations only found on Mount Desert Island, and the Scottish Gaelic word cairn which is a pile of stones used as landmarks to guide travelers. Cairns are used throughout the rocky alpine areas in Acadia. Let The Rockcairn be your home base as you create your own memories while traveling to one of the most unforgettable landscapes on the planet. We'll see you where the mountains meet the sea... set your compass!

Charming 1900’s home. Nice park a few steps away. Walked to town and the wharf everyday with the littles for meals and tours. Quiet, away from the busy part of town but close enough to walk. Will definitely be back

We had a wonderful stay at Sherri’s home, and she is probably the best host we’ve ever had the opportunity to rent from!! The home’s location can’t be beat - only an 8 minute walk into town and 2 min walk to the large ball field/park in BH. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked, and there was plenty of seating and amenities for our group (supposed to be 7 adults, but ended up being 5 of us). It was also very nice to be able to do laundry after long days of hiking and exploring the park! We brought our dogs with us - the property was comfortable for them and this is one of the few properties in town that allows pups. This was a game changer for us as we wanted to experience Acadia with our dogs after visiting for many years without them. Of note, the side yard/driveway area is not very usable if you’re parking cars in the driveway, and the yard is not fully fenced (the gate didn’t latch closed during our stay). The outdoor seating area also isn’t the most usable as there are lots of bushes and trees that have grown in over the years.. but this wasn’t an issue for us as we were busy exploring town! Overall, I would definitely stay here again and really loved renting from such a wonderful host who truly wants the best for her guests! Thank you, Sherri!!

We had a great time at The Rockcairn and would happily stay again! Spacious, plenty of sleeping space, and easy walk downtown or drive into the park. Sherri was very helpful throughout the whole process. She answered my questions ahead of time in a timely manner, let us drop off our bags when we got in early before check-in, walked us through the entry/exit details, and checked in on us once during our stay. Thanks, Sherri!

Such a wonderful property and attentive hosts! The home was clean and comfortable, perfect for our family of five with our teenagers. The location provided great access and easy walking distance to downtown Main Street, as well as access to Acadia and trails. We will be back!

Lots of bedrooms. House was clean, host and hostess responded quickly to our emails. Quiet neighborhood. But the location alone is fantastic. Within walking distance of town, the harbor and other attractions. Parking is at a premium in Bar Harbor, and it all adds up. I would stay here again.

Everything was amazing about this property and our stay. Sherri was fantastic and spent a great deal of time communicating with me about what to do on our first visit to Maine. The house is just perfect. Everything was exactly as the listing stated. The restaurants and shops are just a couple of minutes walking away and the park entrance is about a 5 min drive. Can’t wait to come back!

This was the perfect home base for our trip to Bar Harbor and Acadia NP with our 3 kids - ages 22, 19, and 17. Plenty of space and the accommodations made it a cozy retreat after a full day of hiking, biking, or just walking around downtown - and the house is only 2 blocks from Main St. Bonus! Ed and Sherri were attentive and easy to work with. Hoping to make it back sooner rather than later. Thanks for a beautiful home for our vacation.

We had a lovely week in Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Sherri and Ed were wonderful hosts - take them up on whatever suggestions they have for hikes or sightseeing. The house is comfortable, spacious and comes with everything you need and then some, including lovely porch boxes of herbs for cooking and Tupperware for leftovers. The location is a quick walk (maybe 3-5 minutes) into town and an easy drive to the park. We did not use the Island Explorer as much as we thought, but when we did it was easy on-and-off. It's also a quiet location and we lucked out with great Maine sleeping weather! I hope we can return - we really had a great time!

Sherri’s place was exactly what we were looking for. It had plenty of room for our group of seven (5 adults and 2 kids) and had a great location. We were able to easily access Acadia and were within walking distance of everything in Bar Harbor. The kids were overjoyed with the third floor, which had a bedroom and sitting room completely to themselves. There was also a playground at the end of the street that we utilized when the kids needed to run out a bit of energy. Sherri was a great host, checking in via text a few times during our stay to make sure we had everything we needed. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

We had a nice visit. House was clean. Located a short walk from downtown which was helpful. Host(s) were responsive to several questions that I had. Check out list was laminated and available in kitchen for easy reference. It is an older home typical of the area. Creaky stairs and creaky bedroom doors means you hear your family members all the time, Second and third floors were hot when we arrived and the bedroom air conditioning units were not installed yet. Hosts helped us navigate that issue. Older kitchen cabinets and countertops; kitchen utensils and cookware stored fairly haphazard and not all matching. There was some hair in the bathroom sink and something dark and mysterious on the rug in front of the toilet upon arrival. We stayed in a brand new condo last year. That was a five star. It met or exceeded all expectations. This place is really good but doesn’t WOW like a five star overall rating should. Yes we’d stay here again, but with correct expectations. I can’t give it a five star overall based on the above and wanted to explain my reasoning. Nothing wrong with this solid location; it just doesn’t wow like a five star should.
