Enjoys Sunsets on the Creek from our Vintage Cottage tucked away near BAY & Base

I’ve never written a bad review before but it’s necessary in this case so others don’t have the same experience. We were in Virginia for a softball tournament and wanted a serene atmosphere for downtime. The pics on the listing were lovely so it looked great. We arrived at 10pm after a 10 hour drive. The house was at the end of the street and looked abandoned. I couldn’t believe the conditions of this home. It was filthy with overgrown shrubs/weeds all over. The front porch was dirty and the roof, siding and windows were all in disrepair. It was really dark and I honestly didn’t even feel safe. I did go in and the mold smell hit immediately. It was horrible and there was no way I was able to consider staying there. My allergies kicked in and within minutes I was sneezing and coughing. The house was orderly but the house smelled like it had been either vacant for months or there was a leak in the roof. I did walk out back and the back entry was also filthy and the back patio overgrown. The pics/reviews-on line were not at all representative of the conditions we saw and was so poorly kept and smelled so bad we actually left even after the long drive and had to find a hoteI. I contacted the host immediately and despite us not even being there for more than 10 minutes and sending multiple emails/texts including pictures, she only refunded half our bill. Vrbo customer service was little help. I can’t believe this can happen and was really disappointed. Please pass on this listing!

My husband and I love to experience difference locations every summer. This trip was very hot 90's but felt like 100+. Our stay at this property was perfect - out of the way, close to everything we wanted to see. The property description was exactly what we experienced. We experienced a delay in our vacation due to weather and our host was empathic and supportive. When we come back to the area this will be the first property we look to stay at. Highly recommended.

The view of the Creek from the cottage is flanked by blooming azaleas in April and we were very comfortable despite the windy day or two. The jumping fish and water birds we a delight! We had all the utensils and kitchen gear we needed. All the appliances were great. The bed slept well and the bath was tidy. The living room flowed with sunshine and comfortable chairs. We could have sat there or at the table for hours watching the creek. We were conveniently close to our destinations and any stores we needed. We're looking forward to going back!

We stayed here very comfortably for almost 2 weeks. The setting and location of this property can't be beat, especially if you are visiting a sailor. It is tranquil and peaceful---and the birdwatching was exceptional. Thank you for making this such a special stay.

The location could not have been more convenient a wonderful cottage and the view was beautiful with all the flowers blooming.

The host Leslie went out of her way to make our Christmas with our Sailor special. We are so grateful she shared this gem with us. We felt very safe in this bit of paradise. Perfect for families. I cooked large meals and the kitchen was stocked well. The location makes it very easy to get around Norfolk and Virinia Beach. I'd like to keep it a secret for myself :) But i highly recommend it , I already have on The Navy Family sites.

The property was as pictured/described. Large house for our family of 4. The sun room had 2 areas that was perfect for our teenaged sons and their video game playing. We played board games (some we brought and some were on-site) in the dining area, which had a perfect view. We utilized the backyard nightly, which had a fire pit, so make sure to bring firewood. TVs were equipped with a number of apps to watch movies. It was a great house, in a great location. Perfect communication with property manager and the digital code made check in/out very easy. We look forward to returning.
