My husband needed to go to Duke for a challenging three-month medical procedure, so we searched for a place that felt like home but was close to the hospital and his cancer clinic. This house — about 9 minutes from the medical facilities — fit our needs perfectly. The open kitchen-dining-living space was comfortable, and our dog loved the fenced-in back yard. There is one bedroom and one full bathroom on the first floor, and two bedrooms and a full bathroom on the second floor, so we were also able to carve out private spaces and accommodate a caregiver part of the time. Although the house is on a busy road, it is set back, and the deck looks out onto a nice patch of trees. We rarely glimpsed the neighbors on either side. One of the best parts of the location is that you can walk down the residential streets on either side of the property and drop down onto a path by a sweet little creek. That path connects with a beautiful trail along the Eno River. Both are great for dog walking or just human walking. So many deer! (In one direction you do have to walk along the busy road for a short distance to get to the side street, but the landlord gave us permission to walk through the adjoining yard in the other direction, as she owns that property too.) Random tip: Don't miss the Durham Farmers Market! The only other thing I can think to mention is that there IS a dishwasher; we weren't sure from the listing and photos. We would definitely stay here again.

While booking the house the nightly rate went down slightly but, when I confirmed online paying deposit I notice the rate had changed. I reached out to host with no response on night rate question. After initial payment was received host did respond stating to contact Vrbo as they are responsible for rates. I did contact Vrbo they indicated that it was the host who sets the rates and the slight discount was only for Wednesday and Thursday nights and an average of the entire stay was used for my overall cost. This is not how it was advertised and at this point me cancelling would forfeit my deposit and I could not afford that option. So going into my stay I was slightly disappointed. The house looked exactly as the pictures, was a little surprised that the bedroom on the first floor had no TV. The house had a smell as if it had been vacant for a period of time and the floors were dusty. The blinds at the front door need replacing. In my opinion the room with twin beds was the best room in the house it seem to have all the modern comforts and was cozy. My main reason for renting this house was the convenience of area park. Well, I should have done my research because the park was not in walking distance and the house is on an extremely busy street that is not walk or bike friendly. I will think twice before renting through Vrbo as the fees made my stay far more expense than I expected and the host added a pet fee. It was cheaper for me to stay at a hotel and pay their pet fee

We had a wonderful stay in the Duke Cottage. The location was great and the property was very clean and quiet. The communication with the owner was stellar - very responsive to our needs. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Our family enjoyed the cottage and found it exactly as we expected, cute and nicely managed. It was well located to our venues across our wedding celebrations for the long weekend. It accommodated all of us easily! Lisa was very responsive as well with any questions we had. So appreciative!
