Dream of going back in time Take a trip down memory land when you come stay at School Street House, a genuine one-of-a-kind holiday experience that you just can’t find anywhere else. Happily situated downtown Charlottetown provides for handy day trips to all parts of Canada’s loveliest little province of Prince Edward Island. School Street House feels just like your favourite Aunt’s place!

Night at the Museum: School Street House is not only a guest house, it is aliving museum filled with stories, historic photographs and artifacts. Some vintage treasures include a 1936 model Hammond BC organ with a Leslie 125 speaker, an 1880’s Thomas pump organ and a 1940’s record player. The furnishings and floorings date between 1900-1960 and antique china displays adorn period cabinets. School Street House is an old-time dwelling steeped in history and preserved since the turn of the last century.

Like a Message in a Bottle: Children's signatures discovered on an old plaster wall behind a hundred years of paint and wallpaper revealed that School Street House was the 1904 birthplace and childhood home of world renowned marine botanist, Dr. Constance Ida MacFarlane. Dr. MacFarlane is credited with putting PEI on the map as the “Irish Moss capital of the world.” Irish moss, a form of seaweed, is a major source of carrageenan, commonly used as a thickener and stabilizer in processed foods and products, including ice cream, beer, wine and toothpaste.

Our host gave a warm welcome and introduction to the property. As promised, the house is definitely stuck in a time warp - and meticulously maintained. Easy walk to downtown dining options. Quiet neighbourhood. Thank you!

Great place to stay in Charlottetown. Lots of history. Host is very knowledgeable with regards to the history of the property. Close to the waterfront. Beds could be a little larger and more comfortable. Overall a great stay. Would stay again.

School street house was an interesting home to stay at. Nearly every item is old and seems to have a story or evoke a memory, from the pump organ to the kitchen, to the wallpaper to the board games. We stayed for 3 nights, and enjoyed the easy access to the tourist area of Charlottetown, great shopping, pool and activities for the kids nearby. The neighbourhood is very walkable, and across the street there are 2 playgrounds.Host was very organized, kind, and knowledgeable, and the home was very clean and maintained well.

Enjoyed the house very much, met our needs very well! Tom is a very gracious host and he gave us a very good history discussion about the house and furnishings. Very easy walk to downtown and the pier. If you’re there during warm weather, you should go upstairs to the window unit and get it going full blast as soon as possible. Once we did that and used the available fans, we were comfortable. Great experience!

The owner was very knowledgeable about the history of the house. The house was clean and well stocked with towels, dishes, utensils, soaps etc. Perfect size and location for 3-4 people. The only complaint we had was the mattresses were hard and could use an upgrade and a few extra pillows.

We spent 3 nights here with two of our adult children. The home is a generous size with comfortable rooms. Walking distance to the waterfront's many attractions and the historical sector of Charlottetown. A great experience.

This was a fantastic place to visit. Like stepping back in time to your aunties house in town. Simply restored with various period materials and appliances. Little slices of house and neighborhood history. Simple, down-to-earth, and clearly a labor of love. Would recommend.

Our family enjoyed our stay so much. The house was spotless and very clean. The furnishings and decor fascinated my children. They loved playing the old board games and sitting in the pupil's desk in the foyer. We would love to come back again for a visit.

This place was really spacial to stay in. It really felt like we were living parts of PEI's rich history. Loved the host explaining all different aspects of the house upon our arrival. Charlottetown is charming and located about 20 minutes away from all main attractions. Wished we would haved stayed a whole week.
