Sunset Beach, North Carolina
Enjoy a few relaxing days, weeks, or more, (but, please, no more than 4 people)!
Our home is an 1,100 square foot residence located on the mainland in Shoreline Woods, a quiet, peaceful neighborhood with great oak trees and a winding waterway that runs throughout the area. It is a great place to walk or bike ride, especially in the early mornings and evenings. We offer a comfortable two-bedroom, two-bath home, surrounded by trees and beautiful landscaping. The home is less than a mile from the causeway to the island, and 1.8 miles from the Sunset Beach Pier!
This is a family owned second home that we would enjoy sharing with you! (We are not affiliated with any rental agency other than VRBO.) This beautiful brick home features lovely landscaping and natural garden areas, and is situated on a quiet corner lot with partial views of the intracoastal waterway! This home is in a great neighborhood location with a short drive to the Beach! Our 2-bedroom home sleeps four (2 couples, or family of 4) comfortably. (Please, no more than 4 human guests!)
(We block out one day between guests, and are continuing with the cleaning requirements we began when Covid-19 started.)
Sunset Beach is a small, ocean-side town on the southernmost tip of NC, partially on the mainland and part on the barrier island. Until a few years ago, this island was accessible only by a one-lane barge bridge, but a causeway has now replaced this resulting in easier access. The old barge bridge is now a museum beneath the causeway.
If you are seeking a quiet, peaceful place to visit, Sunset Beach is the spot, having one of North Carolina’s most beautiful and well-preserved beaches! The barrier island is both a turtle sanctuary for the endangered loggerhead turtles, and Bird Island is a protected part of the North Carolina Coastal Reserve, including nearly 1,500 acres of marsh, intertidal flats and, of course, the Atlantic Ocean beach! Visit the Kindred Spirit Mailbox while you are there!
From the 40th Street boardwalk, it is a gorgeous 2-mile walk to the Little River Inlet in South Carolina. Whether walking, jogging or biking, beach-goers may see many species of shoreline plant and animal life and seashells. And if you like seclusion, it is largely deserted during the winter months.
Accommodations include -- in the master bedroom, a bay window with a double (full-sized) bed, ceiling fan and private bath; the second bedroom has a queen-sized bed, ceiling fan, and access to the main bath which contains a washing machine and dryer. The living area has a love seat, a covered leather recliner, a dining table with 4 chairs, ceiling fan and views of intracoastal canal from the front windows and open porch off the living room. There is a flat-screen smart TV in the living area. (For those with small children, we do have a glass dining table and a glass coffee table.) We have cable TV and Wi-Fi. The kitchen has a skylight, and a small bay window over the sink. In the fall through spring (outside temperature permitting), you can relax on the large, screened-in porch, complete with couch, tables, chairs, light and ceiling fan. The porch has a vinyl window system, each window with 4 movable vinyl panels, allowing you to create your own indoor-outdoor atmosphere! There is a single carport located away from the house that contains a new grill. The garage has beach umbrellas, coolers, beach chairs, and a couple of boogie boards for use at the beach. There are also bicycles, but these are for use in the neighborhood only. There are bike rentals (Julies Rentals) for the beach on the island. You will need to provide your own helmets.
House-trained pets are welcome, but we would like to know if you plan to bring your fur baby, as we have an additional pet addendum to be filled out. An additional, refundable pet fee will be charged ($350), which I will refund provided there are no pet damages.
This is a non-smoking home, inside and out!
Guests must be over 25 years old to rent! To keep costs to you down, we do not have linen or cleaning services, so we request you leave the property ready for the next guest. We do provide linens, but you must launder all prior to your departure. You may opt to bring your own linens as this saves time upon departure, or check with Julies Rentals on the island to rent your own.
To gain access to the beach, there is free parking on Main Street with beach boardwalk access each block. It is also permissible to parallel park on North Shore Drive as well.
Guests may not come into our home the same day another guest leaves; we are require 24 hours between guests.
The grocery store is about 1 mile away from the house.
Guests are required to return a signed rental agreement (and pet addendum if a pet is brought) prior to entry.

This cozy ranch house is wonderful! Well appointed in every way! Kitchen is great and has everything you might need for your stay! The beds are comfortable and the living room/dining space is perfect! The owner is extremely invested in making sure our stay was perfect! What a wonderful stay!
Great town, neighborhood and house for relaxation by the marshlands and beach…I’m definitely coming back!!
It felt just like home. The location was perfect.
It's a very nice place! Karen is a very good host. Will be returning!
Nice, well-maintained house on quiet street. I had a relaxing stay. I was visiting friends with first-row rental on Sunset Beach so was able to park at their place and the short drive was very convenient. The owner is very good with communication. There is a where to find things list at the back of the information notebook on the desk that was handy. The kitchen is well equipped with dinnerware, utensils, and cookware to handle a fairly large group. There is also beach gear if you need it, but I brought mine. If you are doing your own post-visit cleanup and not hiring a service, you will find pretty much everything you need there. Saves you from having to buy it. I did the cleanup myself for my 5-day stay, which took a while. But if you stay a week or more and have the budget, I recommend hiring a service. The owner posts signs/notes that basically give you her preferences for taking care of the house. Some may find this intrusive, but the recommendations are in line with how I would want my own house treated by guests. I found the check-out list to be useful. I would highly recommend this rental.
Overall a very cute house stocked with everything you need. Communication with the property owner was seamless and check-in was very easy. Location is nice and very close to Sunset Beach and the pier, market, etc. The house is family friendly, but better suited for kids over 5 in my opinion - there are a lot of glass tables/accessories. The guidelines/owner's preferences were clear but slightly excessive, it felt a bit like there was a rule for everything we touched and that detracted from feeling like we were home away from home, especially not being able to keep the house at temperatures we're used to in the summer time made it hard to sleep. Would recommend for couples looking for convenience or families with older kids.
Beautiful home, close to everything. Your pick of beaches. House was stocked with everything you might need during your stay. The owner thought of everything. Communication was amazing. We already booked our next stay.
This house and the location was FANTASTIC! I definitely would do this property again.
Great experience! Loved all the touches that made the stay complete & enjoyable!
Nice neighborhood for walking and bird watching. Had a visit from a Great Horn Owl. Very relaxing and soothing stay.
Karen’s house is immaculate! Located in a very nice neighborhood with lots of trees and well kept garden a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the coast. Inside is so cute and comfortable, the kitchen has all that you would ever need including nice sharp knives which is rare in a rental. Only a 5 minute drive to the beach it’s was perfect for our needs. We would definitely stay there again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cozy little beach house! It was so clean, updated and located just a mile from Sunset Beach. We were so happy to find such a nice home that allowed us to bring our two fur babies. The house is located in a very lovely neighborhood near the beach. We really appreciate Karen for being so accommodating. The home has everything you need and so clean. We will definitely be planning another stay here in the future.
This was a very well kept property in a great (quiet) location, close to the beach, local restaurants and grocery stores. The home was well furnished to provide anything you may need for day to day living. We were very pleased with our stay!
Will rent again!!
Fantastic stay with so much to do close by. A few blocks from Sunset City Park and close to restaurants not far from beaches.
We loved our stay at this property in Sunset Beach. It was a great location and has everything we needed to feel like a home away from home. Karen was a wonderful host and great to communicate with. She worked with us to accommodate bringing our dogs and other details regarding our stay. Definitely recommend and we would love to stay again!
Very clean, comfortable, up to date house. Karen is organized and provides everything guests will need. The location is on a quiet street perfect for walking, biking but a quick trip to beach and stores. We had a great time! Thank you Karen!
