Many recreational opportunities are within a short distance; The Greenbrier and the Homestead are World-class golf resorts under 20 miles away. The historic Humpback Bridge is within minutes of the house and there are many other historic sites nearby. Roanoke, Va. and Lewisburg W. VA have airports that servicethe area, along with Amtrak which comes into Clifton Forge and White Sulphur Springs.

The house was built in 1970 by Marie and John Bradley Jr. of Callaghan, Va. as their retirement home. The house is handicap accessible and dog friendly. The well water at the house has been said to be the freshest tasting water in the county.

The house has 3 bedrooms with ample sleeping arrangements for up to 8 adults in the bedrooms: 2 full-size beds, 1 queen-size bed, and 2 twin beds, all with updated mattresses and linens. There are 2 full baths by the bedrooms and one-half bath off the kitchen/laundry area.

There are three fireplaces in the house, though it is heated with thermostat controlled baseboard and wall heaters to meet individual preferences. We do have newly added central air and heat for the warmer and colder months. There are ceiling fans in all the bedrooms, den, and kitchen. There is always a good breeze throughout the house when the windows are opened and there is an attic fan for circulating the air, day or night. The house also has a den and living room. There is comfortable seating throughout the house. The back and front porches have ceiling fans for use in the summer months. The house has a new bronze metal roof and is well insulated. Parking for approximately 6-8 cars is available on the property. There is covered parking for 2 cars.

The house has a land-line with a local phone number but can accept, but not place long-distance calls. There is internet access with wifi in the house (information about the setup is posted on the information board in the dining room and there is also a wireless printer for renters connivance. There are also 2 flat-screen televisions (one smart) on cable service. Locally, the house is situated within a half a mile of 2 grocery store/gas stations and a bakery is about 3 miles away. The view from the back porch overlooks the quaint community village of Callaghan. Easy on and off access to the interstate 64 and lovely mountain roads that direct you to river and lake fishing. A great place to visit and enjoy with a variety of enriching amenities that the mountains and this historic area provide. Festivals and entertainment abound, but also a great place to just get away from the chaos of everyday city life. Upon arrival driveway/entryway limbs were overgrown, no signs that grass or lawn maintenance had been done. Upon arrival 30minutes early, the cleaning lady was still present and very helpful in giving us a tour of the house. She was kind enough to show us everything that worked and everything that did not work. Out of 3 bathrooms none of them were 100% operational. Kitchen sink did not drain. Second day of visit made a trip to hardware store to get mouse traps as several were seen while watching TV. Traps were successful in catching mice. If you don't like mice and have a fear of spiders think twice. This property is in a great location and has a lot of potential if the right maintenance program would be put in place.

Had a great stay over Thanksgiving at this cozy hilltop cabin in the woods. The cabin came with a full kitchen setup for meal prep, and a nice woodstove for the cool nights. We saw wild turkey, deer, and a blackbear. Great location to check out some of the local State parks for some hiking and the National Forests. My only complaint is the proximity to the freeway, with the traffic, but otherwise great location.

Lovely, cozy home. It was close to everything we wanted to visit. Had a few glitches, but the care taker and owner were great to work with to get all straight. Very peaceful and comfortable. I would definitely go back again.

We had a great time. My wish is that they had lower beds for children and it was easier to find. Hope to use you again next year!

The house overlooks beautiful views from the back porch. Comfy and cozy home. The kitchen was fully stocked - as described. Lots of birds nesting, beautiful yard in the spring. It was damp during our visit, so you could smell the fireplace/woodstove in the den area. We were relaxed during the entire stay - way overdue. We are looking forward to returning for another stay soon!

House was spacious and clean, great bedding and linens. View out the back of house was great. Weather was cold when we arrived and they had a fire going in wood stove to greet us. Very cozy. Would stay again.
