This converted barn, two-story apartment, is framed insid by the barn's original beams. Furnished thoughtfully, guests will encounter interesting vintage rustic and industrial pieces complimented by new and antique mid-century touches. It is a perfect spot for a couple or two friends.
The first floor offers a soaring two-story ceiling, windows from floor to ceiling, and vibrant sunlight. A great room, the first floor has comfortable living and dining spaces, with a small kitchen.
Climb the steps to the very large loft bedroom and a king bed, a seating nook for reading, a desk for working, a wardrobe, and dresser. A small but, updated and functional, bathroom sits off the master bedroom.
Enjoy multiple seating areas outside including smores around the Breeo smokeless wood fire pit.
Please note that the barn shares the 6+ acres with the main house. We may be staying in the house or have renters in the home during your stay. The barn is set off from the house and the property is such that you may never see people that are staying in the house.
We love children (we have four) but we are not comfortable with children under 12 staying in the apartment due to the loft bedroom. If you have children and are looking for a place to stay, please consider our 3-bedroom home. Hoping to stay with a larger group, we offer the house and barn for rent together.
Also, please note that per the description there is only one bathroom and it is on the second floor and we do NOT have air conditioning in the barn. This property also only accommodates two people.

This was our third stay at the barn on River Road in Manchester. Each time has been in the winter, and the barn is wonderfully decorated, convenient, clean and fun. The hosts are always easy to communicate with.
This place was in a wonderful location, very clean and was everything it had shown it would be and more! Would highly recommend to anyone thinking about renting this place!
Just about perfect.
We stayed at Jean and John's renovated barn for a weekend while we attended a wedding in Manchester. It's a very cool space -- cozy and comfortable with soaring ceilings, gorgeous views and a spacious loft bedroom. Perfect blend of rustic and modern -- with a minimalist Scandinavian feel. The king bed in the loft is super comfortable dressed with soft linens and extra layers if needed. Location is perfect -- private and out of the way but close to town and sights. There were guests staying in the main house while we were there but the distance from the house makes the barn private and quiet. Communication with Jean and John was great and prompt. Check-in/out was easy peasy and the house was sparkling clean with fresh water, condiments, coffee, tea, milk/cream and all the basics for self-catering in the well equipped kitchen. Overall a great experience!
My wife and I had a fantastic 2 night stay at this property. The location was convenient to town, though we spent much of the time hanging out around the fire pit on the lawn listening to the stream. The property was extremely peaceful and quiet, and we even had a visit from about a dozen turkeys out on the lawn. The barn is tastefully decorated, and the kitchen is just the perfect size for two. The bed and pillows were very comfortable - we both enjoyed a great night's sleep. We loved that there were staples in the pantry and shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom. It made traveling from out of town very convenient. My wife wrote this entire review, but I enjoyed the stay as well!
We spent an amazing 2 nights at this property! Better than listed!! Beautiful, spacious for 2, comfortable, with outstanding views. Location is super convenient. Host was execellent. Highly recommend!!!
We had a couple of days to explore Manchester before joining another group, and this was the perfect home base - the bedroom was especially lovely, and felt like a spacious loft, private and airy and super comfortable. Our host was responsive and helpful, and it was a short easy drive to town.
We had a wonderful stay at the barn! It was true to the pictures and the location was beautiful. We loved starting and ending our days sitting out in the lovely yard/field listening to the river and nature around us. It's very close to the shops of Manchester and convenient for travel all over the area. The cabin itself was beautifully decorated, had all the amenities we could need, and was a truly special place to be able to spend a week. I highly recommend staying at the barn!
Better than pictures. LOVED MOMA turkey and babies?
We loved our stay at 2827 River Rd. in a restored barn that restored us between all the busy and noisy events of a wedding and in general, it was a perfect place for a mini vacation. Both the main living-room and bedroom were lovely open spaces, nicely decorated, full of light and at the same time very cozy! This VRBO provided everything we needed including a smart TV which treated us to the French Open on the tennis channel! Thank you so much for our restorative getaway!
We had great stay, the place was wonderful and we were lucky enough to have beautiful weather.
My husband and I loved our stay in the barn. We were looking for a spot in Manchester that would be close to everything but give us all the comforts of home, and we couldn't have found a better spot. The rooms are beautiful- filled with light, with wonderful views into fields, and everything we could need was right at hand. We'd love to return- it was such a restorative weekend!
The renovated barn was perfect for the two of us. It is beautifully decorated, and exceptionally clean and well-stocked. We even got to enjoy the wildlife as seven deer walked through the backyard on Sunday afternoon.
This spot in Manchester, VT is perfection! The decor is simple and warm, all the amenities were as described and the location is “just right” for a feeling of a cozy getaway.
The location is awesome and super cute.
Place is a lovely converted barn. Very quiet location with a lovely view. The bed was firm, large and very comfortable. The barn was also decorated very nicely. One downside was it was a little cold and drafty initially but the available space heaters helped. It was also unseasonably cold (-20 to -30) when we got there which I’m sure contributed. The owner was very responsive and checked in on us occasionally. We’d certainly stay there again. Perfect size for a couple.
This place is a gem! The hosts couldn't be more helpful, especially right before the trip. It’s an interesting converted barn on a peaceful lot just outside the center of town. It was spacious, clean and well-equipped with everything you need in terms of space, kitchen items, etc. We were there for a winter ski weekend and it was perfect. Would definitely recommend and would stay there again, in any of the four seasons.
It's hard to imagine anything less than 5 stars for all the categories listed. The listing was well described with ample photos, and the hosts were responsive, though we didn't actually meet them. I recommend this property if you're going to be in the Manchester area. I'd certainly return there.
Comfortable with lovely views and so convenient to Manchester center. Hope to return.
It was a cozy place close to town but not in the middle of the hubbub . The bed was great . Everything was clean and comfortable. We felt safe and she provided all kinds of coffee. The host was concerned with the steps for us because we are seniors , she provided slippers with no skid and it worked out great. I would recommend this little cozy get-away. .
What an incredible stay we enjoyed at this beautifully renovated barn apartment! The setting was idyllic— quintessential New England setting complete with sounds of the tumbling brook, view of the mountains, and stunning night sky! The place itself was beyond gorgeous— a work of art in its construction & decor! Our hosts, Jean & John, thought of everything to make their guests’ time spent there as perfect as possible. If I could give it 10 stars I would without hesitation! We hope to return!
We loved everything about the barn apartment. The mid-century vibe in a historic barn was charming. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking meals, the bed was very comfortable, and sitting outside on Adirondack chairs while bird watching was a perfect way to spend a summer afternoon. We'll be back! Thanks!
This was our first time to visit Vermont and we wanted to experience everything. The barn provided us with the perfect setting to launch our adventure. We weren't prepared to fall completely in love with The Barn. From sunrises to sunsets in this idyllic place, we had everything we needed to feel completely at home.. John and Jean have created a truly special place to get away from it all in the peace and quiet of their beautiful home.
