Virginia Beach, Virginia
Beach Bird is located in the quiet, low traffic, family-friendly North end of Sandbridge Beach. We specialize in and love family groups and reunions We have ample parking with the large driveway and gravel front yard, one of the few houses with the extra parking space. We are 500' from the beach, the path to the beach is right across from my driveway. You can turn right on the beach road to the life-guarded beach, or left past two houses to a uncrowded part of the beach. To the North on the beach about 5 miles you can see downtown Virginia Beach; in between is Dam Neck Naval Base where Seal Team Six is based. To the south you can walk 30+ miles all the way to the Outer Banks, but there is restricted access during turtle and bird nesting seasons. Five miles down the beach is a fishing pier and tennis courts. another mile brings you to Back Bay Wildlife Refuge which has guided tours and trolley tours in season, and spectacular bird-watching in the fall with many geese and shore birds over-wintering. There are numerous golf courses nearby and you will pass one on the way in. We are doing some major remodeling and adding a three story addition, (a long-time dream) this winter. The new first floor pool room with bathroom will be very convenient for the pool and patio area. It will also have a triple futon (double futon with twin upper). We will move the downstairs large side by side refrigerator-freezer there for more convenience. The second floor of the addition will have a queen bed and a large 12' x 32' deck connected to the 7' x 30' and 15' x 15' East-facing existing deck. The original house plan features 6 bedrooms and 4 baths, a great room with large kitchen area, dining and living room. In addition to two new sofas, we will have a larger dining table, as well as the six bar stools, and also transformer coffee tables, so large groups can dine together, one of the many good ideas we have gotten from guests. The bedrooms consist of a king master upstairs with washer/dryer and large closet with baby supplies, upstairs queen with crib, king and queen downstairs bedrooms down stairs sharing a bath which is just outside the doors and separated from the rec room by a hallway, so quite private. Off the rec room is a bunk room with triple bunk and twin with it's own full bath, and bedroom six with a triple bunk. The large rec room has a queen sofa bed and double futon for the convenience of extra guests who may be staying over the weekend, another request from our guests. We have a fully equipped kitchen; we have frequently been told that it is the best equipped kitchen our guests have experienced. For our guests convenience we also supply most sundries such as paper towels, TP, hand and dish and laundry soap and softener, and basic spices. Our goal is to minimize the shopping and bulk of these items for a week's stay. We also offer a linen package including washcloths, hand towels, bath towels, even beach towels, as well as sheets and pillow cases for all the beds so guests don't have to load up the car. We charge a nominal fee for the linens of $300, far less than commercial services, but this is optional. Most guests like this option so we continue to provide it. Some guests prefer to bring their own or use a commercial service. Ocean Rentals about a mile away which you will pass on the way in is one service, they rent most everything form baby supplies to surfboards. We do provide most baby supplies including Pak-N-Play, high chair, strollers to name a few. We also have beach carts, beach chairs and umbrellas, and a wagon. Our guests' enjoyment and convenience is our goal so we welcome suggestions. In many cases we have purchased and provided the item the same day, like the Keurig coffee maker one guest suggested. We are continually working on amenities and games. We have ping-pong, cornhole boards, all kinds of pool toys, and pool volleyball. We have smart TV's throughout. We have a basketball goal at the driveway and working on marking the driveway for a pickleball and badminton court. Since we have the extra parking, this should work. There is a great deli and small grocery store, Sandbridge Market in walking distance, and the Sandbridge Island restaurant next door is always popular. A large shopping center is about 7 miles on Sandbridge Rd., most will pass it on the way in. Downtown Virginia Beach is about five miles away as the crow flies, but 20 minutes by car since you have to go out SB Road to General Booth Blvd. There are many attractions including a Boardwalk, many restaurants, jet-ski rentals (the lady in the house behind Beach Bird runs it), fishing party boats and dolphin watching, and parasailing rides. Also an indoor sky-diving center! Notable attractions further away are the battleship Wisconsin in down town Norfolk, the Air and Space Museum in Hampton just past the Bridge-Tunnel you probably came through, Jamestown, Colonial Williamsburg, and Yorktown , the historic triangle another 20-30 miles west on I-64, also on the path many will pass on the way here.
Grandma, kids and grandchildren (20 to 25) all had a great time. House was well equipped and large enough for all. Pool was wonderful after time on the beautiful beach.
The house was very clean and well stocked with linens, towels and various soaps. We are likely to return!
Family reunion from Maine, Arizona and Virginia Beach. There were 6 families, ages ranging from toddler to senior citizens. The location, ease in finding tne house, the pool, the beach and local attractions all made it a great place to stay. Bernard is an attentive and accomodating host. We all truly enjoyed ourselves.
Our family enjoyed our stay at Beach Bird in Sandbridge.Bernard is a great host. The property was well stocked inside and out and clean. The kitchen is large, well stocked and up to date. The house is two short blocks to the beach! We visited the beach daily. The pool area is wonderful! The pool is huge and the gazebo area with two grills and a table is great. The pool was used every day and brought a lot of joy. Thank you Benard!
OUR FAMILY HAD A GREAT TIME BUT THERE WERE SOME COMPLAINTS/OPPORTUNITIES WHICH I REVIEWED - ON SITE - WITH THE OWNER: -OVERALL, THE HOUSE WAS NOT “RENTAL-READY”. The condition of the house and yard/patio was not what is shown in the VRBO pictures. I walked through the house and yard with the owner and suggested opportunities which he agreed were necessary. Opportunities to stop rain from leaking through air conditioning vents, remove non-smart TV’s that don’t sync to main circuit, up-grade children’s bunk beds, and providing professionally cleaned and installed linen ($200.00 up charge); Put sand in the beach volleyball pit - remove weeds; Basketball hoop and other advertised games also not in good condition - removal, or replacement would be a great opportunity. The living room was comfortable, but a new couch (without a plywood cushion) provides a significant opportunity. Lots of opportunities to increase attractiveness of the “gazebo” area too. This includes removal of old broken BBQ grill and other broken boards and old plastic furniture. He told me that he is in the process of fixing the air-conditioner support and making some of the other improvements that we discussed. I understand from the owner that he did not have enough time to get the property in as ready a condition as usual, so I offered these suggestions. It may take some time to take advantage of these opportunities. I hope this report is helpful.
House was well stocked. The homeowner was accessible and nice to work with. The house needs to be upgraded but it didn’t stop us all from having a great week. The pool and sitting area was clean and stocked with pool toys-a lot of special family memories made this week
Bernard was the best host! So communicative in a timely manner and offered so much information, both about the property and the area. The house is so well stocked in the kitchen and other areas (towels, pool floats, beach chairs, etc). Although some of the equipment etc is getting pretty old, it was still usable and very appreciated. We have a group of 10 and the space was accommodating and we had a great time. Would stay again and more than happy to deal with Bernard!
The house was very dirty, despite the previous reviews. On the surface, it appears better at first. Upon closer inspection, one sees the dirt, hair, spider webs, garbage, etc. The upstairs couch needs replacing. We found an enormous dead cockroach. We don't recommend this place as is.
Property could have been better maintained and updated a bit. Pool area was nice but needed to be weeded badly. All and all our family had fun
The owner was very sweet and thoughtful
Nice location. Easy walk to beach. Beach is not crowded, which makes it nice for large families. Roomy house. Nice heated salt water pool and covered deck area at pool. Owner was very helpful and responded quickly when we had trouble with the refrigerator.
Location was perfect. 5 minute walk to beach. Pool was a plus. House had everything you needed. My family had a great time.
