This is one of the oldest houses in Philadelphia built around 1763. When you come visit, you will see the house looks virtually identical to the Betsy Ross house. This house is small but very charming. Please note we do not accept local guests. We also need you to let us know the reason for your visit to Philadelphia.

Please note this is an older house and while we do our best to clean we are in the city and critter and pests may enter the house. If you are not comfortable withthis, please do not book.

The home was so close to everything---a 15 minute walk at most--and the location is great for food and dining, shopping, and so much of the Philadelphia history! The home is about 250 years old and is on such a nice street---really felt at home. The host is great on communication and was very helpful. Would definitely recommend staying here if you want to experience Old City Philadelphia.

This is a fantastic property. It is perfectly located within walking distance of all the historical points of interest in Philadelphia. Its character and charming traits will never be forgotten. You get the feeling that former residents were probably on a first-name basis with Betsy Ross herself. We would definitely stay there again.

Larger living room furniture for lounging. The antiques create a welcoming atmosphere but are not comfortable for sitting around to have conversations.

The house was so cool, it was so old and had so many neat quirks about it that our whole family loved! It was so close to everything in the Old District, we walked pretty much everywhere! Sophie was great to get in touch with and was so quick to answer any questions I had! I would recommend this property and host 10/10!!

The location is wonderful. Near the river, in Old City, close to a subway station and many restaurants and coffee shops. We did not use the house much for anything but sleeping since we had a lot of things going on with family in Philadelphia. Stairs to bedrooms are steep and curvy so take them slowly!

This old house was so charming and I loved the stairs. Definitely tricky for folks with mobility issues and a little harder for us after a day of walking LOL but it was part of the charm. The location could not have been more perfect. SERIOUSLY. Close to the action and the farthest we walked was 31 minutes to the Magic Garden Museum. Felt very safe. Parking lots were close for 30/day; Never found one for less than that. We do agree with other reviewers that it would have been nice to have more comfortable seating in the living room to sit and read or relax after a long day but the furniture goes with the vibe of the home. The extras were appreciated (shampoo/conditioner/lotion, tissues, paper towels, Saran Wrap/foil, tons of spices, oils, coffee/tea).We were happy we were able to stay here and it helped make our visit to Philly so pleasurable. Thank you.

We loved the location of this home and was able to walk to all the bars and restaurants, plus down to the Delaware river. So much history in this area of the city to soak up! The home itself was clean and had everything we needed. The beds were very comfortable!

The place is charming - with fireplaces and winding stairways from colonial days, yet modern heating, and a bathroom and kitchen with all the amenities. We loved that there was a box of tissues in every room. The neighborhood is safe and quiet, and neighbors were friendly. We could walk to all the historical sites that we were interested in. And our host was most accommodating.

We had a great stay in the home. It worked well for our family. Close to all the rich history that we wanted to see. We were able to walk to most of the site or take a 10min uber ride to the rest. We had a good day and the kids enjoyed the unique nature of the home.

Worked out perfectly, loved the historic vibe over all. Just a small amount of up keep needed. Paint on tub is pealing, etc. Over all we loved our stay! Helped the metro is so close and my son lives two blocks away.

Home was clean and well suited. Kitchen was well stocked, bed were comfortable and plenty of towel and wash clothes. The only downside was finding parking (parking lot down the street, 20 a day) and you have to walk through the master to the only bathroom. Would definitely stay again

This is our second time staying at the Cuthbert House. The home is so charming and the location is within walking distance of most of the big historic sites. Sophie is very accommodating and was willing to work with us on a late check out due to our flight leaving later in the day. I truly can’t imagine staying anywhere else when our family adventures in Philadelphia!

Getting to stay in this historic home was such a perfect way to see the Old City sights in Philadelphia. It is on a small cobblestone street just like Elfreth's Alley, but without the crowds. It worked well for our family of five, but be prepared for an aging property, the bathroom through one of the bedrooms, and steep slippery stairs. The beds were comfortable though and the kitchen was well equipped.

My dad and I loved our stay in this amazing piece of history! This house is definitely old, unique, and in a great location if you're looking to walk around the old city. The listing is very true to the experience. The stairs are basically a spiral staircase to a landing. I definitely wouldn't recommend it if you have any mobility issues. I slept on the top floor and my dad slept in the smaller bedroom on the same level as the bathroom. I think it could be awkward to have someone sleep in the largest bedroom which you half to walk through to get to the restroom, but it would just depend on the comfort level of your group. There is a $30/day parking lot right behind the house but we didn't have a car until the day we were leaving town so I can't attest to it. You can technically drive a car down in front of the house but a regular car practically touches both sides of the sidewalk. I would 100% stay here again and was so happy this placed kicked off our trip through Pennsylvania.

Such a convenient location for exploring all of Philadelphia’s attractions! 70+ grandparents traveled with 12 & 14-yr-old grandchildren for 5 days. We had separate bedroom spaces for everyone , and the living spaces downstairs worked well during our down times. The kitchen was well-equipped for the meals we ate at the house. The neighborhood felt safe & we walked and rode the Philly Phlash bus everywhere. Thank you Sophie for a nice “home away from home” during our Philadelphia stay.

My wife and I stayed at Sophie's place for 8 days and her house had the colonial charm as shown in the pictures. We were within walking distance of all the wonderful museums and activity centers that the older core of the historical city center had to offer, including some wonderful restaurants, those within 2-3 blocks. The communication with Sophie was excellent and, since our arrival on the first evening was very late, she offered to pick up a couple of grocery items so we would have a head start on breakfast the first morning - so kind of her to offer that. Access to the unit was easy and we had no car (didn't need one) so that made things easier. We even had a fun adventure riding the city bus (#125) from the Old City to Valley Forge where we really enjoyed a half-day tour of this site, including a 90-minute trolley tour (the last stop for this city bus - at $6.00 per adult). We would recommend Sophie's place, hands down, but would concur with many others who have mentioned that the interior stairways are narrow and steep which might be important for the more mature guests.

The property is a little brick house, a little funky. There is absolutely nothing modern or luxurious about it. It is old, old, old. But we enjoyed it because it was part of our whole experience of seeing the historic side of Philadelphia. Staying in that house, it felt like the Revolutionary War was going to break out any second. The alley on which it is located is very charming. Warning - stairs are steep and narrow!!
