Roxbury, Connecticut
Charming country retreat located in the beautiful northwest corner of the Litchfield hills in bucolic Roxbury, CT. Roxbury is famous for historic sights and architecture and rural ambience. It has been the home of great figures in art and literature including famed playwright Arthur Miller and his wife Marilyn Monroe, artist and sculptor Alexander Calder and noted author Frank McCourt as well as many other contemporary artists and celebrities who still live there today. Roxbury and the surrounding areas also boast excellent hiking and pristine lakes and rivers, which are perfect for boating and kayaking as well as fine restaurants and taverns, art galleries and cultural events. You can easily spend a lazy day antiquing in nearby Woodbury, or treasure hunting at the famed Elephant's Trunk flea market (the largest in the state), which is only a 15 min drive from the house.
The house is a cozy 2,500 sq ft 3 level home with 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths on 3 acres of wooded property with manicured landscaping and mature trees. The house has a well equipped kitchen with top appliances, 2 king size beds and one queen, central air, a stone fireplace, high ceilings, wooden plank floors and floor to ceiling windows that look out over the woods and a small stream. The patio has a teak dining table that seats 8, a gas grill and hammock for an afternoon snooze in the shade.
We enjoyed staying at this lovely property. Tastefully decorated with every amenity required for a relaxing getaway. We will return!
Sean and Eric were wonderful hosts. Everything was clean and exactly as described. Roxbury is a wonderful town, quiet with friendly people. The Roxbury market is a gem for morning coffee!
We were so pleased with this beautiful home.I cannot say enough about the beauty and ambiance of this home inside and out. The attention to detail with the design and layout is incredible. Sean was an exceptionally gracious host.
My daughter and I stayed in Roxbury to take care of some family affairs. This was a beautiful & relaxing home away from home. The home is clean and neat and comfortable and the property & location are beautiful.
As a group of 3 couples, we enjoyed our stay here. You’ll find lots of well-appointed common areas and small nooks throughout the home. We particularly enjoyed the amply stocked kitchen and furnished patio - complete with a fire pit that can be assembled as long as you’re off the grass. Spacious finished basement with a media system and plenty of puzzles/board games. The master bedroom on the first floor is your best bet with its en-suite bathroom, doors that open to the yard and a TV. The two bedrooms upstairs are adjacent and connected by double doors so don’t serve well for complete privacy, but the shared bathroom does have a nice soaking tub. The couple own an adorable bulldog whose likeness you’ll find throughout. But that also means pet hair and some odors, so not best for anyone with pet allergies. The host was very responsive and forgiving of our lagging checkout. All in all a great home base if you want to stay in or explore the number of parks and preserves in the area!
