The Jewell Hollow Cottage is nestled at the foothills of the Shenandoah National Park, perfectly situated to act as home base while you explore all that the Shenandoah Valley has to offer- hiking, swimming, and canoeing, the Blue Ridge Whisky Wine Loop, as well as unique local attractions, such as Luray Caverns. With its quiet, rural setting and comfortable indoor and outdoor spaces, the cottage is the perfect getaway for couples, families or friends. A Level 2 EV Charger makes travel easyand convenient.

We are new to Vrbo but have many excellent reviews on another short term rental platform since we started hosting in 2023.

The space
Built in the late 1800's, the Cottage is unique, comfortable and steeped in local history. Although in use as a 3 bedroom, one bath cottage for quite some time, it was originally built as a general store for locals living in what's now the Shenandoah National Park. The Old Judd Store has played its part in the history of the area!

The kitchen is charming and fully equipped to meet your cooking needs. The dining room seats 6 comfortably and the large living room windows connect the indoors to the beautiful surroundings.

Each of the three bedrooms have their own unique charm but all three have cozy beds and nice bedding for an excellent nights sleep. The main bedroom has a twin sleeper sofa as well as a queen bed. The second room has a queen bed and the third a twin.

Off one side of the house is a private porch. The view of the field across the street with the mountains rising behind is wonderful in the morning while enjoying a cup of coffee, watching the mist and sun rise and listening to the birds waking up.

Off the other side of the house is a west facing deck to enjoy the sunset and perhaps a local wine, beer or spirit (please ask us for recommendations!).

The cottage is in a quiet, rural neighborhood and is situated on a country lane allowing easy access to many local attractions

- 4 miles to the Thornton Gap entrance to the Shenandoah National Park
- 2 miles to beautiful Lake Arrowhead Recreation Park
- 5 miles to the charming town of Luray
- 7 miles to Luray Caverns
- 12 miles to Sperryville
- 18 miles to Shenandoah River Outfitters
- and within an hours drive to many, many vineyards, breweries and distilleries
- 1-1/2 hrs from Dulles Airport

You can enjoy a beautiful country stroll directly from the cottage, or access hundreds of miles of trails in Shenandoah National Park from the Thornton Gap Entrance. Whether you prefer waterfalls, scenic overlooks, strenuous hikes or a walk in nature, we can recommend just the right trail for you.

During the summer, you can cool off at the Hawksbill Recreation Park and Pool in Stanley, or rent canoes, kayaks or tubes and spend a day enjoying the scenic Shenandoah River.

The most popular local attraction is Luray Caverns, the biggest cavern in the Eastern U.S. After enjoying a tour of the caverns, with its cathedral-sized rooms and crystal clear pools, you can walk over to the Car and Carriage Caravan Museum, the Shenandoah Heritage Village, the Garden Maze and the Rope Adventure Park, all on the same campus.

The two closest towns are Luray, 10 minutes from the house, which has a movie theater, performing arts center, gallery, coffee shops, tea shop, and a variety of restaurants and eateries. Sperryville is 20 minutes away and has a fine art gallery, restaurants, wineries, breweries and distilleries, as well as local markets and shops.

Quiet hours are 10 pm to 8 am. Out of consideration for our neighbors we strictly enforce these hours.
Other things to note
An outdoor fire pit (Solostove) is available upon request when county fire restrictions are not in effect (such as during drought or high winds).

Excellenct location for visit to Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive. The house was beautify restored, the owners had even built custom cabinets out of salvaged wood. Very comfortable beds and furniture, and a well equipped kitchen that had everything we needed for home cooking. Very clean!! Quiet location, and we enjoyed watching deer in the hayfield. Not far from restaurants, shops and grocery in Luray and orchards and craft stores in Sperryville.

It was the perfect location for our hiking vacation. We are avid hikers and this cottage was within 35 min drive of all of the hikes we had researched in advance that we wanted to do in both the Shenandoah National Park and the George Washington National Forest. We also really enjoyed the local wineries. The cottage itself was clean and had a well equipped kitchen and had nice old fashioned charm. If you like historical places you will like this cottage. If you want ultra modern, then this cottage would not be for you. I didn’t realize there was no tv, which wouldn’t have mattered at all except it was opening week of college football when we were there so we had to drive a good ways to find a restaurant/pub with tv’s to watch Ohio State. I don’t think the listing mentions there is a washer and dryer, so we packed assuming there wasn’t any, but were happy to find they did have them. With a lot of hiking it was good to be able to do a bit of laundry. The rural location was quiet and peaceful, which we also really enjoyed.

A lovely country cottage, mixed with comfortable amenities. Our family stay was enjoyable amongst the mountainside and hollow.
