Very good place to relax. Thank you. If you have senior citizens( no problem with young people) may be slightly difficult to climb front door stairs due to uneven height of stairs. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay here.

It was a very charming house, the host were very communicative about any problems we had and were very accommodating when we needed anything. Overall really nice stay. Only downside is parking is limited but we made it work.

We did a lot of cooking and everything we needed was there. Nicer knives would have been great, but we made do. The weather was very cold and the home was warm. The train is very loud. The beds were comfortable and the vibe is cozy.

Beautiful old craftsman home that we thoroughly enjoyed. Our kids loved the game room. The beds were very comfortable. The only down side were trains going through Elgin at 5am. The host provided white noise machines which was a lovely touch but it doesn’t help much with the train horns. Other than that we loved the home!

We had a great time during our stay! The house was clean, comfortable, and made for a fun getaway with friends. We especially enjoyed the game and movie nights—it was a perfect space to relax and hang out. That said, there were a few maintenance issues worth noting:The king bed upstairs had bent supports, which made us a little nervous, though it held up fine during our stay. There’s a cracked window on the patio near the living room and a large crack in the wall going upstairs.A small hole in the floor by the dining room desk and a stuck yellow lock on the back door (by the trash bins) also stood out. Some of the board games had mixed-up pieces, though we took the time to sort a few of them.None of these issues took away from the overall experience—we still had a fantastic time and would definitely consider staying here again!

We traveled to Elgin the weekend of July 4th to celebrate my son's wedding, being held at The Highland Loft. This was the PERFECT spot. It was 10 minute walk to the venue, as well as downtown Elgin bars, coffee shops and restaurants. We drove into town, and the property had enough space for 2 cars in the driveway. There was ample street parking around the house, plus a very nice public parking lot about 4 blocks away. We had grocery shopping to do, and there are loads places within close driving distance. The house is gorgeous with so much wood and leaded glass windows -- it felt like stepping back in time, but with all the amenities we've come to expect. It was a very hot weekend, but the air conditioning worked great and the numerous ceiling fans made it very comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed, as did the 2.5 bathrooms. Caleb was very responsive to our questions, before and during our trip, and we would definitely stay here again if traveling to Elgin.

The place was really nice and charming. All of my guests had a good time and everything I needed was there. Some features of the interior could use some general maintenance or replacement (drawers, vents, light switches, etc — small details like that that could eventually inconvenience you in some way), as it was impossible to tell if some things were already like that or if it was us who left it like that. The house has a cool vibe to it, old architecture style, décor, and very cozy. The host has taken great care of providing us with anything we would need - earplugs, sheets, plates, you name it. The neighborhood is a little sketch but everything went well during our stay! Caleb has been a very accommodating host, and even though I have not tried contacting him through his phone, it has been a bit challenging to do so here on Vrbo.

Nice property, big rooms. As noted in earlier reviews there are some steep steps so if mobility is a problem this might not be for you. 2 block walk from the downtown area where families were biking and playing so neighborhood seemed safe after we were initially unsure. Lots of good restaurants close. The parking spot is tight so if you have a large vehicle you may have to park in the street but there was ample of that. Overall we were very happy with our stay. Host is great and will respond to your questions quickly. There is a train that goes by at night but white noise machines help a lot with that. We will defiantly stay again if in the area.

Great location, very spacious property. Salt stains, salt and pine tree needles on hardwood main floor and in master bed. First night, downstairs bedroom, At 1:00am startled awake by loud noise in downstairs hall. Had to unplug humidifier, checked reservoir there was no water. Hair & lint on otherwise clean pillow cases downstairs bed. Downstairs shower -water temp not warm enough for comfortable shower. Garbage cans in kitchen & downstairs bathrooms not emptied. Smoke alarm w/no batteries lying on sofa table downstairs. Once these items are addressed will be a great rental!

We were totally enchanted with this older modernized home. The woodwork throughout the home was beautiful. They just don’t build houses like this anymore. Large spacious rooms. Beautiful sun room. Game room in the basement. Nice kitchen. Comfortable beds. Nice outdoor patio. Near the river walk. We enjoyed our visit very much. Thank You!
