The World's Fair Retreat will not only give you one of the most unique and enjoyable stays in the Midwest, but it will also take you back in time to 1904 when St. Louis was not only a major industrial empire, but a crown jewel of the ENTIRE WORLD - thanks to the 1904 World's Fair held in the Forest Park of St. Louis. This retreat is situated in the cozy and hip Tower Grove East neighborhood, where true STL city locals live, shop, eat, drink, and be merry! A one-of-a-kind St. Louis experienceyou will not forget!

You'll be enchanted by the elegant design/decor that is ALL based around the early century Victorian era and the STL World's Fair. The retreat is completely decorated with art, photos, aerial maps, antiques, original postcards, books, and memorabilia from the fair that will give any visitor or history buff a true understanding of how truly grand this event was.

More than just 1 or 2 No problem - there is a queen sized memory foam sleeper sofa in the living room AND a queen sized memory foam pull out bed in the dining room. AND there's also a full tea/coffee station along with a few breakfast items we keep stocked for you (which is fun to prepare and then enjoy in the relaxing breakfast room). Perfect for helping you get energized in the mornings!

Ready to go explore There are 2 road bikes available onsite for guests to rent for a minimal fee (see in pics). Gorgeous Tower Grove Park is only 4 blocks away, the Grand Ave. strip is about 6 blocks away, and the Missouri Botanical Garden is about 1 mile away! Plus...there’s so much more to see in the surrounding area!

There’s always plenty of free street parking right in front of the house. It’s a very quiet block, so there’s not a lot of traffic of activity.

Please advise: there is a security camera on the exterior of the house to protect our guests and the property, and to deter guests from throwing unauthorized parties.

**please be sure to read over all of the house rules before booking**

**MAKE SURE your guest count is accurate when booking, otherwise your reservation total can change or increase

*NEIGHBORHOOD DETAILS
The Tower Grove East neighborhood is conveniently located near 2 highways and a number of popular city attractions, parks, and neighborhoods. The retreat is only 1 block away from one of the best (and highest Yelp rated) BBQ joints in the city - The Shaved Duck. Also very close by in walking distance is another handful of popular local bars, restaurants, convenient stores, and Tower Grove Park.

Tower Grove Park
This wooded Victorian strolling park rewards meandering. Its 340 kinds of trees could chart every shade of green, and they attract 200 kinds of birds, from red-shafted flickers and monk parakeets to ospreys and ring-billed gulls. Henry Shaw developed the park to give St. Louis “a grand pleasure ground,” with wide lanes for horse-drawn carriages, gates guarded by zinc griffins, and exotic pavilions and gazebos. Every few feet, there’s something to see: lions copied from the tomb of Pope Clement XIII, heroic sculptures (Shakespeare’s here), busts (including Mozart), and antiquities (columns from the Old Courthouse and stone “ruins” from the old Lindell Hotel, reflected in one of the most picturesque ponds in St. Louis). Park officials also recently uncovered a long-forgotten stream on the park's east side, accenting it with rain gardens and native plants on either side.

Absolutely wonderful property. Middle of town. Close to everything. Owner of the property was easily reachable. First trip to St. Louis and will not be our last. Would recommend this property to friends and family. Hope to return in the future. Thank you for a wonderful time.

This is a fun house: built in 1898, it has been well maintained and is filled with memorabilia from the 1904 World's Fair. A pull-out couch and a murphy bed accommodate a sizeable group despite there being only one bedroom. If you can make do with only two sleeping spaces, this is a great option in St. Louis.

This property was beautiful and very conveniently located. There was a lot of attention to detail from the full length mirror in the bedroom to a filtered water pitcher in the fridge. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever encountered in a VRBO. I would definitely recommend this property to other adults staying in St Louis. This property is not family friendly but perfect for a couples get away.

Great place…loved the location. The only things that didn’t go well was the inability to control the thermostat. It was quite hot/muggy…especially at night. Also, the tv had no sound (we couldn’t figure out the problem) and there was no coffee.

This apartment has a lot to offer. It’s spacious, nicely furnished with an eclectic mix of furniture and area rugs that show off the hardwood floors. That said, the bathroom sink was unusable because the faucet didn't produce water, and the in-sink soap dispenser was empty. As a result, my morning and evening toiletries were completed at the kitchen sink. Apparently, the owner relies on his house cleaner to insure that everything is in good working order. In a former life, I owned a condo in Puerto Vallarta that we rented to visitors when we were back in the US. We paid a property management company based in Puerto Vallarta to check in guests, make sure that supplies were replenished, and cleaned the condo after the guests departed. Undoubtedly, there are many well-qualified property managers in St. Louis the the owner could engage rather than relying on his house cleaner to manage his rental unit.

Pros: It's an interesting place with lots of World Fair lore. We didn't stay there for this reason but may interest others. Location is good for that area of St. Louis and isn't far from great attractions. Tony is responsive and seemed interested in making sure our stay was comfortable.Cons: Could use a little additional cleaning with some dust collecting in places. I sent a list of small maintenance items which hopefully will get worked on. If both these things get done, it will be a really great place. There is a very strict schedule on the air system. The first couple days were cold and the heater was on way too high. I turned the heat down but it reset back to the schedule every couple hours which made sleeping a chore.CYA: Take note of any damaged or broken items. Cleaner claimed I broke something which was not the ending to a decent trip I wanted to deal with.

Cute old home is a quiet neighborhood. There was acrually a neighborhood block party while we were there! People grilling, children playing, mingling, etc. You can tell they are pround of their neighborhood, a nice area. It was within a 10 minute drive to most attractions in the city. Most of the driving wasnt too bad, lots of 4 way stops and one ways making it a bit easier to help with navigating in a strange city. As for the home. The livingroom was cozy and nice to wind down at the end of the day and watch tv. There were lots of neat little world's fair photos and momentos. Make sure to read thru the welcome book, it also thankfully explains how to pull out the bed in the dining room which we also used in addition to the bedroom. Overall clean and comfortable stay, could use a good dusting though. Light switches were a bit of a learning curve to get used to. Overall would recomend! The Missouri history museum has a display on the worlds fair as well while we were in town, neat to learn about. Make sure to check out forest park to see where it was held and learn more! Not too far from downtown, the Arch, Budweiser Brewery (go meet a Clydesdale horse!) Next to tower park, nice open green space great for walking.

I felt at home immediately! Literally every amenity was thought of from olive oil and garlic powder to make-up wipes and Bath and Body shower gel.The house was beautifully decorated and all the wonderful information on the guide book was top notch. I really enjoyed the neighborhood. Having lived in the STL metro 5 years before need to stay here. I always love learning about parts of STL and South CITY STL residence are a class unto themselves. The house was conveniently located to Gravois Ave. where you can find absolutely everything. The house is literally withing 5 miles of at least 2 large grocery stores and then things like QT Gas Station and Dollar General. I never had an issue with parking. The keyless lock and security system made me feel very safe. There was a tornado while I was there….my mom (new to the mid-west) was freaking out but I was able to keep her calm and remind her the house is over 100 years old and we were in the basement and going to be fine.Speaking of my mom….I was there to recuperate for a producer she was there to take care of me…not very techy…I was way too weak to be bothered with the fact that she couldn’t get the TV to work. But the host stayed on the phone with her until he helped her figure it out. Enjoyed my time there and would stay again.

It has all the modern amenities that people desire while giving the illusion of living in a different era with easy access to all things fun about this interesting city.
