Visitors report a magic about Casa Sofia, nestled at the foot of Taos Mountain in the beautiful Sangre de Cristo Mountain range. One of the oldest adobe homes in the charming rural village of Arroyo Seco, Sofia holds the history of the region as her namesake did. On Ski Valley Road, a short walk to the village shops, galleries and fine places to eat, a 15-minute drive to the world famous Taos Ski Valley and a 15-minute drive to the Town of Taos. Country setting with horses across the way and buffaloes grazing nearby on Pueblo land.

Casa Sofia has all the contemporary conveniences of home and is decorated with a multi-cultural mix of arts & crafts from the Southwest. Spacious living room with kiva fireplace, master bedroom with bath, 2 additional bedrooms with bath, all with queen beds. The 3rd bedroom is reached through its neighbor bedroom or from a door to the outside, making the walk-through optional.

The Taos area offers a host of activities including world-class skiing, hikes to mountain wildflowers and waterfalls, white water rafting, hot air ballooning, gold panning, tennis, mountain biking. Taos Pueblo, a 10-minute drive, is the oldest continually occupied structure in North America offering tours, horseback riding, artisan shops and seasonal ceremonies and festivals open to the public. In town there is a rich choice of museums, restaurants, shops, a cinema – including a weekly art film series – classes and workshops. The Taos Film Festival takes place in March; the World Poetry Bout in June; the Solar Music Festival in July, Fiestas in August, the Fall Arts Festival in September; the Balloon Festival in October; the Winter Holidays are alight with luminarias.

Case Sofia, cool in summer and snug in winter, provides a lovely retreat for a slow read, revising a manuscript, painting from the roof or doing nothing at all. Climb the stairs or sipapu ladder to the roof deck and sit back for the gorgeous light show of a northern New Mexico sunset, and later, look back on your day in the hot tub under New Mexico's famous star-filled sky.

A beautiful location in the county, with blackbirds and magpies flying around the marsh conserved on the ranch across the street. Great sunsets and amazing deck on the roof to take them in. The patio has plenty of space for a family, and the hot tub is a nice bonus. Great New Mexico style in doors. The location is close enough to walk 5 minutes or less into Arroyo Seco for food, drink and local arts. Would wish for more firm pillow, and the second couch was wood frame that could use a little more cushion. Definitely would stay here again.

A very comfortable home with a wonderful history. Kitchen was well equipped and host was accommodating. My husband, daughter, son-in-law and 4 grandchildren made some special memories in the home during the Christmas holidays.

We needed to find somewhere to stay near Valdez for a wedding and this location was perfect, an easy 10 minute drive. The house was clean and comfortable but the best part was the rooftop deck where we were able to see amazing night skies, a real treat. There are three bedrooms but one is a room with a bed that could only be accessed through the other bedroom so that was a bit of a challenge, also the primary bedroom did not have a dresser or shelves to put our clothes, minor problems however. Thank you for a nice stay!!

Stayed for a week for spring break with the kids and dogs. House was securely fenced in for the front and back for the dogs, can open gate to combine the two. The house was nicer than the photos appear, very bright with all the natural light. Location was walking distance to the little shops in Arroyo Seco and 15 min drive to TSV. Would definitely stay again!

We loved being so close to Arryo Seco. The style of the casita was perfect. The turn in and out of the property can be a bit tricky. Great location for skiers and non-skiers all in the same group.

Loved this location for our annual ski trip. Halfway between Taos plaza and TSV was perfect for our family as we like to spend time at both. House was very comfortable and we really enjoyed the rooftop views and the use of the hot tub after our ski days. Good communication from the owner. I hope this is available our return trip as it checked all the boxes of what we look for in a vacation rental.
