Great secluded cozy cabin in the woods with a million dollar view. Come and relax in the great cabin feel while close to everything you need. Walking distance to Castlewood State Park for hiking, biking, fishing and floating. Hidden in the hills but close to everything.
The cabin is fun but has several quirks that would have been nice to know about before booking. Like the main door into the cabin going through the primary bedroom, all the levels from room to room, or the lack of latching or locking doors into any room. Those things could be lived with but I reached out apologetically when our plans changed and the host was rude.
It’s not a cabin. Lots of stairs, lots of exterior doors. Had a musty smell that was difficult to get used to. Was ok for the purpose we used it for. 4 guys going to Metallica concert. Probably wouldn’t be great for a family trip.
Inside of property was nice. The outside areas are not kept up and very overgrown. Off a rock road that is not the easiest to navigate. Owner is very much in the your business and tries to con people out of money with extra charges when you leave. Won’t ever come back.
We enjoyed getting to meet the owner! We had a few mishaps while there (none of which were his fault) and he was very willing to help us. We would definitely go back!
Great place for my family from out of town. Everything went smoothly.
We were obviously bummed that the Cardinal bs Yankee game we traveled to see was postponed, but thanks to this fantastic property our group still had a great time and a relaxing evening! We had a couple groups who stayed in hotels downtown that left the stadium and went to bed to complete their wasted experience, while we came back to the Vrbo, and just spent time hanging out in the different and awesome gathering areas in the super unique layout - drinks under the moose, a fire (not really because we didn’t start one, but the dormant hearth was good enough for June) and some tobacco pipes on the deck under the stars. Topped off with a great comfortable nights sleep for the whole crew. Would love to come back again and highly recommend the property and manager!
I rarely leave reviews but this place inspires me to do so. Know that it is old. If you are expecting new and shiny this isn’t it. It is rustic, charming and has surprising number of interesting spaces and features! It is not for anyone with mobility issues, as there are multiple stairs and quirky steps throughout, most notable the stairs to the twin bedroom are most precarious. We found it to be very clean. The owners were communicative and easy to work with in helping us through questions we had regarding our visit. The drive to it has steep areas and especially rough approaching the cabin. Overall it was an enchanting surprise. There is much more to it than pictures impart. Good value solution for our family to visit our stl family and friends. Truly sleeps 8. One extra that i think would be really nice is information in the cabin about the history. My brother looked it up and believes that it was built on 1924? We would love to learn more!! Castlewood park is really nice for hiking, biking and in summer we love to hang by Castlewood creek be careful swimming in Meramec river however is dangerous. Peaceful location at the cabin. There is an area for bonfire that is inviting. Fun place to stay close to our west county folks!
The only thing I would say is this property is not handicap accessible, so if you have issues with stairs this is not the place for you… Otherwise ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ across the board… Would definitely recommend and stay again…
Perfect location for what we planned. Poor communication between booking and check in procedures but quick response when the power went out in the area. Will be back again next year.
The cabin was amazing. Wasn’t quite prepared for all the stairs it made it very unique. Loved all the characters that the house has. We will most likely be back.
We had a fun family vacation here. The cabin was fun and in a great location (30 mins to downtown St. Louis and 5 minutes from a state park with fun hiking.)
Nice place, lots of rooms! Loved the location. Only suggestion is more curtains to help with a bit of privacy when changing clothes. ? Loved the moose!!!
nice place had a lot of stairs harder for myself. lots of room and sitting areas would be nice place for more people. thanks for the rental.
The place was filthy when we arrived, we spent time cleaning ourselves just to feel like we could sleep. We could hear mice in the walls at night. We ended up leaving early, we just couldn’t take it. The home was in disrepair. Communication with the owner was poor, he did not give check in information until we reached out the day of scheduled arrival and when we reached out regarding the mess and unkempt conditions he claimed the house was clean and accused us of spamming him when we stated we’d be leaving early. We have submitted a request to VRBO customer support but based on this experience we will never use VRBO again.
It's fine if your planning to be out and not spending much time there. Could use some yard cleanup and weed trimming. Very close neighbors have quite a few dogs that bark a lot. Came back late from six flags and one was in the yard growling at my daughter and her friend. Told it to go home and it did. Very bare bones, no coffee, no charcoal, no yard or board games, not even so much as a deck of cards. Which it did not say it had in the listing but seems to be common for most of these types of lodging.
Google maps was a little off on the road names when getting close but was still able to find fairly easy. For only 2 people the place was spacious and peaceful. Had some friendly deer visit just beyond the deck and fireflies twinkling. Only recommendation would be to have some sort of privacy, like sheer curtains or 1 way window film, for the main bedroom patio door windows. Would recommend to those visiting the area or simply need a little hometown escape from the hustle and bustle.
We enjoyed our overnight in this cabin. It was clean and we had all of the amenities we needed. The property manager was very good at communicating with us and accommodating our needs. The cabin had a unique charm. It worked well for us.
There were people up there working for 3 days when we got there property manager doesn’t answer you back 3 days before we were suppose to leave cabin started on fire donto a non licensed electrician doing work we reported to the building inspector no permits were pulled for anything done to the place inside had any all in the kitchen cupboards whole entire place smelled like mildew and mold you could see where water was coming inside the place property manager kicked us out after the fire even though it was there fault it started on fire we were left out in the rain in my rental car property manager was useless never heard from the owner I have filed lawsuits against property manager and vrbo as well my entire vacation was ruined and I will be proceeding with the lawsuits and do not recommend anyone stay in any of there properties they are unsafe we could of burned alive they have no care in the world for there customers and they violated the building code according to building inspector the place should of never ever been rented so with that said I will see you guys in court I’m filing a multi million dollar lawsuit and coming after both parties for damages and costs for my entire trip that was ruined
