Flagstaff, Arizona
Features of this custom built home:
Breathtaking view of both Mt. Agassi and Mt. Humphreys. Feel like you can 'touch the peaks' from two living/family rooms with 'walls of glass' facing the mountains. All the bedrooms have the same view. You can gaze out and say, 'I was up there today, and it was awesome.'
South facing clear story windows and vaulted ceilings make for a cheerful, well lighted home year round. Passive solar design means quicker warm-up on winter mornings especially if using the propane central heating and/or the wood stove. Sitting around the free standing cast iron stove is always warming, and watching the flames through the glass in the doors really sets the mood.
The house is located at the upper reaches of a very large meadow, not quite in the pines. The sweeping view down to the highway and turnoff to go up the mountain is always captivating whether prairie grass or covered in snow. Note: skiers and hikers, YOU CANNOT STAY CLOSER . The south rim of the Grand Canyon is about fifty miles away. Downtown Flagstaff is about twelve minutes the other way.
This is a very quiet neighborhood (one road) with very little traffic. There are only a few homes on acre plus lots.
You can hear the wind and lots of bird chatter. You may see herds of elk in the meadow and hear them screech at night along with an occasional coyote baying.
Water, straight from the tap, is cold, pure and great tasting. Snow melt filters through cinders from lava from the eruption back in the day. Our well goes down 150 feet to where sweet water has collected in an aquifer. Yum, take some home with you.
Walk to the pond you can see in the meadow about 1/4 mile away. It is the headwaters of the Rio de Flag and a wetlands area. Snowshoe or cross country ski the giant meadow right off the front porch. Hike out into the neighboring national forest from the house.
Order take-out (or eat in) from the Ski Lift lodge, two minutes away. They serve breakfast and good wings, pizzas, and sandwiches. They have a bar.
The front deck of our house is to take coffee on with the morning sun. The back deck, with the mountain views and spectacular sunsets, calls for a libation or two.
Everything exactly as expected. Fully stocked, comfortable and entire process was simple and straight forward. Appreciate the instructions and clear communication...just like visiting your own vacation home. Perfect...would definitely stay again and highly recommend for your family and friends. Worked out great for our family! House was as described, well-equipped, and comfortable. Would be even better with a hot tub!
This was a very cozy, homey place. Clean, quiet, very near the Snowbowl. The owners left terrific instructions for everything. Loved it, hope to stay again!
Property had everything we needed. Owner was very helpful and responsive. Excellent location for hiking and skiing.
This place does not disappoint.... the mountain view is exactly as they show
Its a beautiful place and close to the natural beauty. The house itself has full amenities and kids love it.
We had a great time. The house had everything we needed. We got to see it snow the second day. Being from Houston, Texas, we seldom see snow and almost never more than an inch. The house was a good staging location to go to Sedona and the Grand Canyon. Great time.
Great views, wonderful for the snow storm we had Christmas weekend. Lovely hosts - Notes and instructions were easy to help navigate our stay. Location was great....Across the way from Snowbowl and only 12-15 minutes from town. Thanks again Ginnie!
Every year during thanksgiving we look for somewhere to get away. This was the perfect spot, hiking was close shops were close. Very comfortable and we will be back.
beautiful views.
