Birdie Cottage

Birdie Cottage is a charming, storybook retreat that blends thoughtful design, cozy comfort, and an unbeatable Saugatuck location. Surrounded by mature trees and lush landscaping, the cottage feels like a private woodland escape, offering a rare sense of seclusion while remaining an easy walk to downtown Saugatuck's offerings. Shops, restaurants, coffee spots, parks, and the waterfront are all close enough to enjoy without ever needing your car.

Outdoor living isa true highlight. The screened-in front porch is perfect for slow mornings with coffee, afternoons spent reading, and relaxed evenings playing cards or unwinding with a drink. Out back, the fenced yard creates a peaceful, private setting framed by greenery, ideal for soaking in nature. The spacious deck invites long meals fresh off the grill, conversations under soft lights, and quiet nights beneath a canopy of stars.

Inside, Birdie Cottage feels warm, inviting, and carefully curated. The interior blends charming vintage touches with modern amenities, creating a space that is both stylish and comfortable. The living area offers plush seating and beautiful natural light, making it an ideal place to relax, watch a movie, or gather after a day of exploring. The well-equipped kitchen features stainless steel appliances, ample counter space, and a farmhouse sink with a picture window overlooking the backyard, making it easy to cook, gather, and linger over meals.

The sleeping spaces are flexible and full of character. The lofted primary sleeping area adds to the cottage's intimate, tucked-away feel, while the separate den with a daybed and trundle provides additional sleeping options for friends, kids, or couples traveling together. The bathroom is a standout feature, designed with stone floors, farmhouse-style lighting, and a classic clawfoot tub—an ideal place to unwind after a beach day or long walk.

The surrounding area offers endless ways to explore and unwind. The bike path across the street connects Saugatuck and Douglas, making it easy to ride through charming neighborhoods or head toward nearby ice cream shops. Lake Michigan favorites like Oval Beach, Douglas Beach, and the expansive trails and shoreline of Saugatuck Dunes State Park are only minutes away by car. Wineries, breweries, hiking trails, boat rentals, and seasonal events round out the area, offering something special in every season.

With its cozy atmosphere, beautifully designed interior, inviting outdoor spaces, and perfect balance of privacy and walkability, Birdie Cottage is an ideal setting for a relaxing getaway and a place you'll want to return to again and again.

Please Note
- The bathroom has a door for privacy, but no other rooms do. Both the lofted bedroom and the den are open to the main living area.
- Heating is central throughout the house. Air conditioning is provided by a wall unit in the living room that cools the entire cottage.
- There are no window coverings in the living room. Most windows have trees just outside them, but you can see the neighboring houses in a few places.
- Due to the home's charming architectural design, the stairs and lofted bedroom have lower ceiling clearance.
- The den has an Ikea Hemnes daybed with a trundle. This can be set up as 1 twin bed, 2 twin beds, or 1 king bed.
- The fireplace is not available for use.

The Birdie cottage is beautiful, with lots of amenities and special touches. We loved the cozy loft, and we enjoyed time on the front porch and back patio. We walked into town several times a day, and we liked our easy access to the bike trail. We will definitely be back!

pos+: internet speed, Mill Pond, high ceilings neg-: pics of unit outdated.Bathroom is horrible and obvious mildew/mold smell. Bedroom upstairs is not fit for adults. You can't stand up and stairs treacherous. Spiderwebs on porch. Yard has not been tended to in years. Price should be adjusted to reflect condition. Suggest no more than $300/night.

Birdie Cottage is tucked away behind beautiful trees and bushes. The cottage is charming and decorated beautifully. We enjoyed the convenience to downtown Saugatuck.

Birdie cottage is aesthetically beautiful both with the landscaping outside and interior decorating inside. Everything worked perfectly. Unfortunately, the description and photos of the bedroom loft were not indicative of what we experienced. The stairs are narrow with low ceilings thus making difficult to climb and even worse to decend. The apex of the loft is about 6 ft and awkward to move around. I would not recommend Birdie Cottage to those you who are elderly; with mobility issues, or more than five feet tall. Also, the AC is greatly under powered with the hot weather we are now experiencing.

One of kind quaint cottage walkable to downtown shopping. The home had everything we needed and more. We enjoyed every inch from having breakfast on the front porch to cheese & wine on the back deck at night!

We had a great stay at the Smitten Mitten cottage. The house was beautifully remodeled with classic original fixtures blended in that worked so well. The fenced in back yard was perfect for our two pups. It was a 5-10min walk into the most charming town passing by gorgeous homes along the way. Oval beach was a quick drive, and just as beautiful as everyone says. We would definitely stay again if we take another trip to Saugatuck, MI!
