Summary:

Big Blue is a spacious and family friendly beach house right on the Gulf of Mexico. It features a well-equipped kitchen, indoor and outdoor dining, comfortable living area and four bedrooms with a variety of sleeping options. There is a huge screened in porch facing the beach with unobstructed views to the south and an outdoor deck for sunbathing as well.

The Space:

Leave your car and your cares at the marina because Little Gasparilla is accessible only by water taxi! That means our beaches are uncrowded and tourists and traffic are just a mainland memory. If you are looking for a quiet tropical island to relax and unplug, Little Gasparilla is your dream vacation spot. Our nightlife consists of giant sea turtles laying their eggs -- our only bar is the sand bar where you can find sand dollars and shells!

Big Blue has a modern kitchen with all dishes and cookware you could need. It has indoor dining for 8 in addition to the huge outdoor table on the front porch. Big Blue probably has the most spectacular front porch on the island. A large open deck offers views all the way to the next island south. Comfortable chaises are positioned to capture the breezes and maximize sunbathing. The indoor porch has a huge dining table, and lots of casual seating so everyone can congregate on the front porch and watch the sun set. There is also a small porch on the south side of the house which offers a warm, sunny respite from the north wind during chillier winter months.

There are four bedrooms. The master has a king bed; bedroom two has another king bed. The third bedroom has two queen beds and the fourth bedroom has a king bed. This is an unusually large home on a very large lot with lots of privacy since it sits just off the main road and there are no houses to the south.

There are two full bathrooms upstairs.

Your rental also includes access to Dock 52 which is a semi-private dock.

Damage Protection - The $59 charge listed as a management fee on your quote covers your purchase of $2500 of “all risk” damage protection coverage on your rental property. This protection is purchased in lieu of a cash damage deposit. Coverage details are spelled out in your contract.

Amenities include: dishwasher, washer-dryer, charcoal grill, wi-fi, satellite TV, free concierge service to meet you at the dock to help transport luggage and groceries to the house.

Pet Policy - pet-friendly with $100 non-refundable fee per pet

Additional Guests - Rates are based upon 8 guests. An extra occupant fee of $25/night for each guest over 8 will be applied to the reservation. Groups larger than 8 will be permitted only if the home is being rented by a single family and manager pre-approval is required. Please be aware that occupant restrictions include all children.

Complimentary Concierge- will meet you at the dock with a golf cart to assist with transporting your luggage and groceries to the home

Satellite TV - yes

Grill Type - charcoal

Coffee maker - drip (filters provided)

Parking - $9/night ($11/night if you have a boat trailer) at Eldred's Marina where you meet the boat taxi

Holiday surcharges: applied for reservations for Independence Day, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving, Labor Day, and Christmas/New Years timeframes. PLEASE NOTE THAT MINIMUM NIGHTLY STAYS MAY BE INCREASED FOR THESE DATES AS WELL.

The Neighborhood:

The island is only accessible by boat or water taxi. The water taxi is $30 one way for up to 2 people, $20 per additional person each way; subject to change, during regular daytime hours. You must park your car at the marina ($9 per day; $11 with boat trailer)

Other Things to Note:

Please note that holiday fees are applied to reservations for Memorial Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years.

Please evaluate your expectations before booking a stay on Little Gasparilla Island. If you are expecting a polished resort atmosphere, Little Gasparilla is decidedly more rustic. During periods of heavy rain or tropical storms, there may be standing water on the roadways, at the dock and around the house. This is a tropical environment with mosquitos, rust, power outages and other minor inconveniences. If you are expecting resort amenities and services, the island might not be for you.

Interaction with Guests:

We have an on island guest services manager in case you need anything during your stay.

The house was amazing and the views were incredible. The mosquitoes were terrible this time of year but overall the best, most relaxing vacation!!

Renting a new place in a location new to us always causes a tiny bit of anxiety, especially when Little Gasparilla Island did suffer through a hurricane (or two) last Fall. But the house was just perfect inside and out. The interior was very nicely done, and the kitchen was well-stocked, which is important when all the cooking has to happen at home since there is nowhere to go out to eat on the island. But the peace and solitude were exactly what we wanted for a large family gathering to celebrate a milestone birthday. Communication with the property manager was easy through VRBO before arrival and texting upon arrival and thereafter. She is VERY helpful. Booking the ferry and concierge service from the dock to the house was a breeze. With 8 adults, our pile to transport to the island looked HUGE, but it all got there! Although there are more steps to get to LGI, TOTALLY worth it. We spent all day every day and evening on the deck unless we were at the beach. The gulf side of the island is unbelievably scenic, including epic sunsets. And hunting shells was the best we have ever seen...many shark teeth and fossils too! We didn't see many people on the beach, and we appreciated that feeling of privacy. We especially liked the fact that a neighbor has a commercial ice machine so we refilled our large coolers with ice every morning (let's just say we brought lots of tasty beverages). We are already talking about when we can plan this exact same family vacation again! Just do it!

This house was in a great location and was fully stocked with everything you’d need at the beach (Chairs, umbrella, noodles, sand toys). The management company was quick to respond to anything that came up during our weeklong stay. The house is older and there are several wooden deck railings that were missing or broken so if you have young kids something to be aware of. Our only complaint was that the house was not clean upon arrival. Handprints all over the glass, sand on the floor, etc. overall a great experience and would come back.

Place had a perfect view, great access to the beach , downstairs shower was perfect. The only downside was that the property was not very clean, sofa and floor was dirty .mosquito is a problem so make sure you take enough repellent and candles . Overall this property is perfect. There was enough detergent which was a plus for us.

The property is as pretty as the pictures, although the deck needs repair. It was a beautiful island with beautiful water. A real chance to get away. The check in process was easy. Food delivery was also easy and highly recommended. The trash removal was a chore. The most disruptive part of our vacation was when “friends of the family” decided to plant palm trees while we were at the house. They came over on 2 separate days, and there was no communication this would even happen. They took over the outdoor shower and wrenched the foot rinse. This property isn’t cheap and it wasn’t private. Planting trees could have been done another day when it was not rented. We stayed for 5 days and 2 of them were filled with strangers. The refrigerator also didn’t hold a cold temperature and the freezer was iced over. With that said, I would recommend LGI for anyone wanting to get away from it all. The ocean and sunshine were amazing.

The Family RELAXED and experienced old Florida Charm and didn’t miss Uber Eats at all. We loved creating our family fishing tournament while fishing off of the beach, finding nighttime creatures like ghost crabs and scorpions with our black light flash light, cruising the sand golf carts paths up to Don Pedro Nature Preserve and tubing off the beach! Advice for first time visitors. Immediately upon confirmation of your reservation book the following Water Taxi - Pirate Water Taxi - Captain Emmitt is great. Reserve a Golf Cart -LGI Golf Carts - not required but makes life easier Book Brent to help with Arrival Day luggage from dock to house Grocery curbside pick up at Cape Haze Publix with Instacart and arrange to have LGI Evan Grocery Delivery pick them up at Publix, boat them to your dock, cart them to your home, carry them up the stairs and put them in the fridge and counter. It’s worth EVERY PENNY!

A perfect location on the Island, almost like having your own private beach. The house is great. The deck, like most beach homes, could use some work. We had everything we needed. Great family vacation if you like beach and boating. Cleaning could go up a notch, but certainly was acceptable.
