The Space:
What you get:
• 27' Renovated 2001 Airstream Safari
• 40 private acres
• 1800 square feet of roof cover (including covered parking area)
• 1000 square feet of outdoor living space including kitchen, propane firetable, lounging couch and dining table
• 1/2 mile nature trail
• Custom designed and built bathhouse with indoor and outdoor showers that take full advantage of the views and natural light
• Large scenic overlook (Gazer Point) with excellent access, offering outstanding 360 degree views of the National Park, Mesa De Anguilla, the desert valley, Lajitas Mesa, and beyond.
• JuiceBox 40 EV Charger for recharging electric vehicles

The Airstream: The renovated Airstream is equipped with a kitchen (microwave, small oven, small cooktop and sink), two twinXL beds, a small dining table and a comfortable couch. A smart TV is provided to stream content using your own Netflix/Hulu account (but we recommend spending your time outdoors!). The Airstream has 2 air conditioners, 2 sources of heat, and offers Wifi (via DSL). Clean, modern and functional, this is the perfect place to lay your head after a day in the park, or riding the nearby bike trails.

The Deck: Over 1,000 square feet (GIANT) of covered and decked (composite decking) outdoor living space all to yourself. If you’re looking to relax in style, you’re at the right place. Big Bend StarGazer deck offers a large and stylish outdoor kitchen (cooktop/sink/propane grill/dining table/refrigerator) to enjoy meals at home, a couch for lounging, and a propane firetable for those cool nights.

Lighting: Dark sky friendly lights in the outdoor kitchen and living areas, red string lights for stargazing, and a BBQ light for grilling after the sun goes down. Our deck railing has very dim LED's mounted underneath to gently illuminate your surroundings.

The Bathhouse: Custom designed and built by the owners, this bathhouse is spacious and modern with hot indoor and hot outdoor showers. The vibrant blue tile vanity wall is reminiscent of the sea that this once was. The interior is full of light and offers carefully placed windows to enjoy the surrounding views. The outdoor shower is large, private, and frames the surrounding mountains for viewing while showering. Hot water, private entry through the bath house, and incredible views make this an experience you won't forget.

Note: While we are on septic, both of our showers are graywater that is used to feed trees and sometimes the birds will drink this water. For that reason we ask that you please use the bath products that we supply, so we keep the birds and trees happy and well!

Gazer Point: Enjoy your own jaw dropping private scenic overlook with spectacular 360 views of Big Bend National Park and beyond. Outstanding stargazing opportunities from this overlook; one of the best views in the area - all to yourself! You can hike or drive to the turnaround spot. The overlook is leveled and has large boulders placed for seating; or bring your own chair and experience the view from anywhere.

Gazer Trail: Lovely 1/2 mile meandering trail around the property; great for searching for flora and fauna. Fun morning coffee walk, evening margarita walk or just a ‘stretch out your legs’ walk. Gorgeous views and interesting terrain. Please stick to the trail as much as possible and only take pictures.

Location: Excellent location and easy access; driveway is located off of paved scenic road FM170, located close to the hustle and bustle but quiet and private.
• 2 minutes from the Lajitas Airport mountain bike trails
• 6 minutes to BBRSP mountain bike trail head
• 12 minutes to the Big Bend National Park entrance.
• 11 minutes to Study Butte gas station
• 3 minutes to Long Draw pizza
• 8 minutes to Lajitas General Store
• 5 minutes to Terlingua Ghosttown/Starlight Theatre

Special request of our guests: Please visit and enjoy/relax while leaving no trace. Please be conscientious while visiting the fragile desert ecosystem - stay on the trail and limit your water consumption in the shower and at the sink. StarGazers water supply is rainwater collection and water is very sparse in the desert. We request keeping showers to 3 minutes. Please do not remove fossils or rocks from the property - instead take a picture and leave it for the next person to discover. Thank you for respecting Big Bend and the surrounding desert, treading lightly, and practicing sustainable living during your visit.

Occupancy limited to 2 adults. No pets.

This place was amazing. Views of the night sky and Milky Way were breathtaking. The place was super-well equipped, highly functional, very clean, and easy to operate. Waking up in the morning and seeing the sunrise felt like being in a movie. Enjoying the night sky and doing Milky Way photography was a unique experience, and this accommodation is excellently equipped and located for this purpose. This place is very close to Big Bend National Park. Overall, I could not recommend this Big Bend StarGazer more highly.

Staying at the Stargazer Retro was exceptional! The hosts bent over backwards to ensure our stay went beyond expectations, the location could not have been better for stargazing and convenience, the patio was exceptional (the outdoor kitchen was perfect) and sleeping in an airstream was something we had never done before -- it was GREAT!

We loved this place! The Airstream was very well laid out and comfortable and the deck was better than fabulous. The only thing better than the deck was the view from the deck and at night the beautiful sky full of stars.

If your looking to get away from it all - and everyone - and you wished to visit Terlingua, Big Bend , the Chihuahuan desert, Lajitas, and Presido…. This is the spot. I had looked at 3-5 other spots. I saw those places on this trip. Research pays off. The Stargazer is off to itself. Quiet. Peaceful solitude. The views and sunrise/sunsets are second to none . Excellent hosts. Felt very taken care of.

We enjoyed the clean and updated rental, especially the outdoor deck and kitchen. It is close to Big Bend NP yet isolated enough for quiet privacy. Great responsive hosts. Would definitely stay there again.

This is a real gem. It offers natural aesthetic beauty, right next to Big Bend NP. Having an EV charger makes travel in the vast distances in the region in an EV work really well. The spaces are well-designed and comfortable to stay in.

The very best stay I have experienced. Big Bend has many great things to see and experience. Star Gazer and the property are just as incredible. The Star Gazer and surrounding property were amazing both during the day and at night. The stars at night were something I have never experienced in my 60 years of life. I took three days of lukewarm showers before I reached out to Daryl and within three minutes I had hot water. My old bones are still thanking Daryl for telling me how to restart the water heater!!!! Star Gazer and the deck is the perfect place to get away. It offers a home to relax after a day of hiking/biking. I read three books on the deck and in the surrounding relaxing stations provided at Star Gazer. Perfect place if you looking to recharge and slow down. I will be back with my family.

Terlingua offers countless options to stay but none offer what StarGazer gifted us. The design of StarGazer was done by someone with an intimate appreciation of the terrain and its gifts. Not a detail was missed. A full panorama of The Chisos Mountains, Mule Ear Peak, the opening of Santa Elena Canyon and the Full Hunter's Moon fed our camera with breathtaking captures. The Windstream was ample, cold in July, and appointed with most everything you would need. We cooked outside, showered outside, and reflected. The shade never once exposed us to the punishing sun.The view from the toilet gave new perspective in relieving oneself. Wifi was powerful, lighting perfect, and all appointments worthy of a 4 star resort. Most striking was the deafening silence, no neighbors and like no other place, there was NOTHING but unadulterated landscape in front of us. As we walked the paths we began searching for near dates to return. If you are in love with the Big Bend area and need a moonburn or awestruck celestial chorus, you STAY HERE! Thank you for this timeless moment of connection with origin.
